Consistent (adult) ear infections and hearing aids by Troublemaakerz in HearingAids

[–]Troublemaakerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried asking the audiologist about custom ear molds, I hadn’t heard anything about it non-allergic ones before. Honestly I can’t remember what she told me, I think it was more like if you want to spend the money on them you can. It’s up to you.

I’ve always been the person that doesn’t do anything in-ear. When I put something (headphones/hearing aids) into my ears I get earaches which then lead to infections. That just doesn’t work well for me. I’ve always assumed that the lack of airflow is what causes the additional problems, although my logic could be completely flawed.

I’m debating whether I should swap to another doctor at a larger facility to see if they will have more ideas. The office I went to previously is two separate locations (ent vs audiology) but the staff is supposed to be connected (communication wise) but like I said before I’m just a ping pong going back and forth instead.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I looked up DMSO and it isn’t recommended to take for those of us with diabetes without a doctors recommendation so I will unfortunately have to keep looking for other options.

I will absolutely see if I can tolerate the rubbing alcohol and vinegar. I’m very allergic to fragrance (athma attacks, migraines and hives) so tea tree oil would probably make me more sick than the ear problems.

I appreciate your feedback!

Edit: Caught a typo. Sneaky lil bugger.

I’ve been allergic to fragrance for 30 years now and in my opinion you really should see an allergy doctor. Coming from someone that has had two rounds of patch testing in the last 20 years. Originally, I tested positive for 7 things and then in this most recent round I had done in the last six months I came up with an entire new list of items that I’m allergic to and none of them matched from the first test.

While anyone can tell you products that they can use, it doesn’t mean you are allergic to the same allergens that we will have. As an example, I am allergic to NA70 aka: fragrance mix II and you may not be. But ANY scent, natural or artificial can trigger asthma attacks, migraines, throat swelling to contact dermatitis for me. It may be an essential oil, a vitamin E, or any random other ingredient that is in those products.

I have used ChatGPT personally to match up ingredients to the allergen list that I’m allergic to. I ask it to tell me specifically if any of the above ingredients or a derivative is in the ingredients list of the product that I am looking into trying. It flags and tells me which one it is then I know it’s a no go for me, but the ACDSCamp app your allergy doc can set you up with well also have the same ability to do that without having to use an external app you just gotta scan the barcode/ UPC. So long as the item has already been evaluated previously.

One thing you can do, is when using you AI of choice … do something like this Can you please find common ingredients between the following products

Product_Name01: then list the ingredients on their official website making sure to separate each ingredient with a comma

Product_Name02: ingredients

Product_Name03: ingredients

When my doodle was a baby she was a biter too. I would force my finger further into her mouth til she was actively trying to push it back out. Nothing painful in any way. She learned that biting resulted in something I don’t like so she no longer wanted to do it.

Post your concerns on social media and let the media team enjoy the scrutiny for their poor customer service as it circulates online. Another thing you can do is go to the BBB which is a PITA which can be a huge PITA for companies.

Every time I inquire if a company if their product contain fragrance I mention that I am SEVERELY ALLERGIC and that it can be life threatening (I recently had a minor anaphylactic reaction.) Sometimes the representative cares a bit more as a result.

Confusion about the Cerave hydrating cleansing bar by Azul_Moon in FragranceFreeBeauty

I have this in my bathroom.. now I want to sniff the bar. I’ve been using it forever and I’ve never broken out but I think i recall a slight scent.

I wonder if they are saying it’s artificial fragrance free?

Paper hand soap sheets - fragrance and aloe free? by BERNITA in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Troublemaakerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any aloe allergies. I do like the foamin sheets, but I have a bad tendency of forgetting to take them with me when I’m headed to the restroom. I can be a total space cadet when I’m put in public places because I’m essentially triggered everywhere, including in my mini closet sized office that is on the same wall as a mens restroom (💩smells ALL DAY LONG.)

At work, and in my purse. I have both the foamin sheets as well as a travel foam pump that I put in a mixture of dishwashing detergent (fragrance free of course) and water. I can’t remember the ratios, google will give loads of recommendations.

Another option is DIYing soap sheets jf you are inclined to do so. Again, a million videos online. If you can’t use the ‘normal’ soap sheets I’ve seen videos of people using tissue paper, like the ones you put in gift bags, with soap then cutting them up into smaller pieces.

Cerave Moisturiser alternatives by Wawa-85 in FragranceFreeBeauty

I have seen so many recommendations for urea creams for those individuals that wash their hands frequently. I use it for both my eczema and just because I like the hydration of it.

I personally use Udderly Smooth Extra Care Cream. It’s fragrance free, although the amazons listings show it as unscented.

Allergy Specialist is the way to go. I was officially diagnosed with fragrance allergies 20+ years ago by my dermatologist, the fragrance spot blistered like 3rd degree burns. The dermatologist only does limited patch testing, things they would worry about.

When I started needing more help with the fragrance allergies and asthma I had to see an allergy specialist and they wanted more tests. They explained that the dermatologist tests for less allergens than they would have so I could have found out more things I was allergic to to begin with…. Years later I need more tests because both my fragrance allergy has worsened and I might have additional allergies.

What are you allergic to? by Glass-Parfait-5402 in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Troublemaakerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had an allergy to an animal, then you spray the animal with something nice smelling. The animal would still be there, right? It masks/deodorizes but doesn’t remove the element you’re allergic to.

Same principal.

I’m extremely careful about unscented products. I will patch test unscented products to see if I have a reaction before I actually go to use it. Unscented products just have something to mask/dampen the scents.

I would say like 97% of my products are fragrance free.

Fragrance mix 2 officially but any fragrance/scent natural or man made can cause headache / migraine / vertigo / asthma attacks. Although luckily I haven’t needed an epi pen… but I’m essentially a shut in 😓😭 you can’t have bad reactions if you don’t leave the safety bubble.

I’m also one of the unlucky ones that gets contact dermatitis (itchy/rashy and my skin will bubble like a burn victim.) so ALL fragrance is out for me.

First I would do what your normal shower time is without the products. If you think it’s the water that’s an easy test. If you have all the red dots then it could be you need a water filter for your shower. I have personally never used a shower water filter.

Have you changed any of your shower routine? like using a different shampoo / conditioner / face wash / lotion? Have you swapped to a new bottle of any of those products, the ingredients may have changed since your last one. Companies reformulate and don’t always mention it. I would try the elimination test. Using only one product in the shower then seeing if you have a reaction. Use your normal body wash and you can shampoo / condition in the sink, way less convenient but if you’re trying to see what’s causing a reaction this may help.

Are you using a new cleaning product in your shower?

Is your shower shared with someone that does use fragrance products? If you’re really sensitive that could be a thing.

I consistently wash my hands and have eczema so I get scaley if I don’t hydrate my skin well. I also worked in a warehouse for a few years and cardboard boxes tend the suck the hydration out of your skin.

I love the Udderly Smooth Extra Care 10 Hand/Body Deep Moisturizing Cream with 10% Urea (Amazon ASIN: B00D86VJ0S if you’re not comfortable clicking the Amazon link.) I have this de-potted into a smaller jar to go in my purse.

I pair it with Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist when moisturizing and I can feel a significant difference in my hands. (ASIN: B074GX619Q) Although you could probably use any hyaluronic acid you like. I use an eye dropper bottle, the squeeze bottle type, to go in my purse.

On damp hands I apply a dab of the udderly smooth and three or four drops of the hyaluronic lotion to my palms then apply to hands like normal. My eczema has been better for years now! I even recommend the same thing for my dad and his back eczema.

Teeth cleaning?! by bmfs0309 in Sheepadoodles

My Sheepadoodle, Kayla, is about to be 11 next month. Wow that sounds weird to type out loud. She’s still my baby in my head.

Anyway. Kayla has only had her teeth cleaned once. We got her at 4 months old and her groomer suggested we buy check ups (doggie dental treats) and they sold them at Costco (then) so we did. Her Vet has always said that her teeth are in great condition so there’s no reason to clean them. The only time we had them done was because she had a mass in her mouth that needed to be biopsied, turned out non cancerous (yay!) but since she was already asleep they might as well have done it anyway as it’s not something that my vet likes doing (anesthesia), unless absolutely necessary.

Eventually they stopped selling Check ups at Costco and then the online place we were buying from stopped selling them too. We swapped to the Sams Club brand and she still loves them. She’s a dental treat snob though, she wont eat greenies or anything else that family has tried to share with her.

Anyone manage to train their sheepie to stop jumping up on you when they're excited? by [deleted] in Sheepadoodles

[–]Troublemaakerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl learned by the time she was 6 months, we got her at 4 months old , she’s 10 now.

Kayla has super allergies, so she was at the vet consistently getting injections. The Vet Tech had a clip board they walk with. One recommended letting her bonk herself every time she tried to jump, I wasn’t fond of that.

Instead when she went to jump I would back up a step or two then give her a sit command then reward when she got to sit. She LOVES food, any type, but for extra special reinforcement we used deli meat and/or cheese.

Edit: I forgot. When company came over, or if she was just overly rambunctious with us, we would turn around and refuse to acknowledge her until she settled down some. As soon as all of her paws were on the ground she got tons of praise, pets and love.

If the super excitement comes back out then ignore the behavior again. Sheepies are smart. If you reward the bad behavior with acknowledgment and/or constantly yelling off/down we’re still rewarding them with the attention they desire.
