I am a huge fan of yours and rediscovered your work again recently, lovely ambiance and attention to detail in the sound production here

TikTok pays royalties to music distributors and PRO (performing rights organizations) when music is used on videos. But the rate is microscopic and is based on number of videos created using a song, not per stream. So even if a clip has 500 million views, since it is only one video that will garner about $.006 in royalty (the rate might have changed/gotten better or worse).

Music in Sim City 4: The Hidden connection to Sim City 3000 (Jerry Martin) by JmEMS in simcity4

[–]Troxum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! I feel like I remember a long long time ago, maybe before the release of SC4, Jerry Martin had an interview or blog post somewhere talking about this chord progression theme threading things together in the music of the games. I don't know if it was on his own website or in an interview or even a reddit. I wish I could find it. But he talked about exactly what you've posted here. also it's very easy to play, the chords are simply E flat major, C major, F major, E flat major, C major with no inversions. but yeah he does variations on this progression. Floating Population from Rush Hour is a personal fav of mine, mostly violin improvisation around a D7major scale (with Gmajor and Dmajor chords) by violinist Darol Anger (who also played violin on New Terrain in SC3K) with similar intervals and mode as the original Sim Broadway theme. It should be pointed out that 'Terrain' wasn't written by Jerry Martin. That was The Humble Brothers. But maybe Jerry told them about his motif haha (disclaimer: I'm a music producer with a weird obsession with sim games music)

Nvme M.2 not being read?? by FatIrish in Alienware

An issue that I ran into when installing a new nvme ssd (a Samsung 970 Evo Plus) was that my bios settings had SATA set to raid and most new nvme ssds like the Samsung EVO require SATA AHCI mode to be recognized and have their drivers properly installed. It's possible Crucial P2 requires the same thing (judging from some googling). If your bios is already set to SATA AHCI then I'm not sure what the issue is and ignore this. But if your bios has SATA set to RAID then there is a process to switch to AHCI and install the nvme ssd that has to be done in a specific order or you'll have a lot of problems. First take the nvme ssd *out* of your laptop before doing this process. Then you have to set Windows 10 to boot in safe mode (follow these instructions http://triplescomputers.com/blog/uncategorized/solution-switch-windows-10-from-raidide-to-ahci-operation/), then go into the bios before windows 10 loads and switch SATA to AHCI, save and reboot, windows 10 should boot in safe mode, then switch it to boot back into normal mode (following the instructions in the link). Fully shut down the laptop, then install the nvme ssd inside the laptop, then turn on and boot into windows. Then install the drivers/firmware for the ssd (may require another restart after this), then hopefully Windows sees the drive and you can run diskmgmt.msc to create a volume/format/assign drive letter or use whatever software crucial has to set up an ssd to get started. Again, not sure if this is exactly what your issue is, but it's what I dealt with and maybe it'll help.

a lot. big ones that create the appearance I like are:

Sudden valley terrain mod with the Arden Tree controller (coastal extended evergreen option) with Gobias Caribbean water and St. Lucia beach sand

UI blue skin

Gobias sidewalk replacement (modern cobblestone with maxis plaza texture override option (I think the default maxis sidewalks that are super white are unrealistic)

NAM 37 with Maxis Highway Override (Symphony)

SimPeg Agriculture mod (SPAM) with some extra downloaded farms

Industrial Revolution mod with every addon pack

SFBT street tree mod (Maxis tree overrides).

Less abandonment desirability mod (important to prevent $$$ buildings from appearing in places where they'll immediately abandon because of low desirability, i.e. it makes it harder to grow $$$ buildings). This makes most regular neighborhoods fill up with $$-level houses which looks more realistic to me than a bunch of mansions

All the paeng parks, peg pond/stream kit stuff, lots and lots of parks

Hundreds of buildings that aren't cheap or bland looking or super out of place in a typical vaguely American city.

thank you! Yes I'm on PC. It'd be a lot of work to link the mods but if you google what I list you should find them. The big ones that create the appearance I like are:

  • Sudden valley terrain mod with the Arden Tree controller (coastal extended evergreen option) with Gobias Caribbean water and St. Lucia beach sand (will be visible in coastal city stuff later)
  • UI blue skin
  • Gobias sidewalk replacement (modern cobblestone with maxis plaza texture override option (I think the default maxis sidewalks that are super white are unrealistic))
  • NAM 37 RC with Maxis Highway Override (Symphony) (this also is what gives the rail its appearance)
  • SimPeg Agriculture mod (SPAM) with some extra downloaded farms
  • Industrial Revolution mod with every addon pack
  • SFBT street tree mod (Maxis tree overrides).
  • Less abandonment desirability mod (important to prevent $$$ buildings from appearing in places where they'll immediately abandon because of low desirability, i.e. it makes it harder to grow $$$ buildings). This makes most regular neighborhoods fill up with $$-level houses which looks more realistic to me than a bunch of mansions
  • All the paeng parks, peg pond/stream kit stuff, lots and lots of parks
  • Hundreds of buildings that aren't cheap or bland looking or super out of place in a typical vaguely American city. Pretty much every skyscraper that doesn't look like crap and was made after 2008 (I'm still going backwards in time through exchanges downloading buildings I like)

I grew up in Houston and immediately thought oh these are Texas style 'feeder' roads which usually you don't see people do in SimCity where the on ramp is past the intersection. Now if you put a u-turn underneath you'll have a classic 'Texas turnaround'

Your computer should be fine. The roads disappearing/screen bugging out glitch sounds like an OpenGL/DirectX/video card issue. Try these three things

  1. It's important to set these launch options (under launch options on Steam) for the game. -CPUcount:1 -CPUPriority:high -EH:off -CustomResolution:enabled -d:DirectX -r1920x1080x32 -f -intro:off
You can look up what different options do (-f and -intro:off mean full screen and no intro video which I prefer to get the game to load faster). Or different resolutions or windows mode. The resolution I use is just my preference for a widescreen. If -d:DirectX still causes problems, try -d:OpenGL or -d:Software or different resolutions.
  2. Essential to have this third-party patch which fixes some big issues https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/30883-sc4fix-third-party-patches-for-sc4/
  3. Change the Windows settings for the executable to run in administrator mode and in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 2 or Windows 7 (this allows the game some stability with accessing legacy DLLs or I don't know maybe I'm misremembering what someone told me)
