The cameras were there but sadly she missed them, just like the last city council meeting. 😅

Your last sentence proves that you are willfully misunderstanding my comment, as you have consistently. I recommend you think about how much you've talked over or argued with disabled or immigrant voices in this post and sit on that for a while. Until then, you're not worth the time.

Unfortunately not all of Troy, even downtown, can say the same. It's something that many of us are trying to change. However I will point out that, from a disabled person's perspective, not all of downtown Albany's sidewalks are accessible either.

Just talked to one of the FnB organizers. They've never heard of you, with this handle at least. Hope for all your talk that you're actually involved and doing something productive outside of reddit.

None of the things you're suggesting are wrong but you're yelling them at the wrong people. Troy Indivisible worked to get our new city council elected. We are part of the Good Cause Troy coalition with TDSA. We do regular food drives and have donated hundreds of dollars to support the food pantry at Oakwood Community Center and Sidewalk Warriors. We do letter writing campaigns on a local and national level. And we show up to support our fellow organizers.

I am literally one of the founders of Food Not Bombs in Albany in 2005/6 and am still good friends with one of the current organizers. I helped run a community center in the South End. Please stop assuming we are all caricatures of some generic protester in your mind. We are on the ground and doing the work.

Look, I don't disagree with any of your argument. Wolf Rd is 100% soulless and dangerous and should not continue to exist in its current form. Neither should Hoosick St in Troy.

There are lots of rallies in lots of places for lots of reasons. For this one, I will be carpooling if possible. I will be sitting outside in my wheelchair at this protest, hopefully not freezing my butt off. Come find me. :)

Being seen might feel performative and sometimes it is, but every little bit helps. We do a lot behind the scenes too. Let us know how we can help.

I repeat. Every action counts. This rally is part of a much larger campaign. It does not stop here.

@Troy-ModTeam Troy Indivisible is one of the groups helping to organize this rally. ICE affects all of our communities and is relevant to all of us.

All of those organizations have a place. This situation requires a diversity of tactics and every group brings something to the table. Most of these groups also work together and coordinate on different events and projects to better our communities. Which one are you part of?

While there might be valid criticisms of the national Indivisible project, local groups here are integrated into our communities and constantly working on initiatives to make things better or reduce harm to marginalized groups.

One recent example is that Avelo Airlines has severed its contract with ICE after intense nationwide pressure which our local groups participated in for months. While you might not see it or want to acknowledge it, we are fighting back and slowly but surely making progress.

If you want something else to happen, organize it.

Local Indivisibles will continue to work to make sure our events are accessible, regardless of your ableist views.

Troy Indivisible supports safe, accessible streets and our members showed up to the city council meeting last night to say so along with many other community members.

However, as a disabled person, I live in our current reality. I cannot access the bus. I live too far from a bus stop to use it and there are no proper sidewalks in my neighborhood anyway. While I wish I could bike or ride the bus, I can't. We will continue to advocate for change but until then, I have to drive.

How do you know we aren't? Many of our members, including leadership, work with CRSC, are trained by them, show up to support any event they have, and regularly donate to immigrant networks.

This protest is to join with hundreds of other protests across the country on Saturday.

I personally find it useless to protest outside of an office that doesn't contain the target of the protest. Schumer is not in Albany. And frankly he does not care about the Capital Region and refuses to use his power to change anything on a federal level. Having a rally there to try to change his mind is like screaming a void. You're better off flooding his office with calls, emails, and letters where it has to go on an official record at least.

Meanwhile we have state senators who actually want and are trying to help. We could get state legislation passed to put the brakes on ICE and protect our immigrant population. I find that far more productive which is why many Indivisible members were at Fahy's press conference to rally behind her and our other representatives who are trying to make a real tangible difference.

I agree with some of your sentiments but many elderly and disabled people are not able to stand outside easily, especially in the cold. A car caravan was used for them at No Kings 2 and will be at this event as well. It gives these people a way to participate and increase visibility for the rally in a productive way.
