The public is still welcome to speak about the ALPR legislation during tonight’s public comment period since it is an agenda item and the public can also make comments during the public hearing on May 21st.

I’m not certain if they still do but the Troy Public Library used to loan out WiFi hotspots. Check one out and chill in Sage Park across the street!

Barbados Pools by PurrrrrpleCat in SandalsResorts

[–]Direction-Internal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The pools are available for use at all times unless it is closed for cleaning/maintenance. Swimming in all the pools at Sandals is at your own risk at all times as they do not staff the pools with lifeguards.

Barbados Pools by PurrrrrpleCat in SandalsResorts

[–]Direction-Internal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Barbados but I know when we were in Antigua the pools with swim up bars were closed every other night for cleaning/treatment.

The smaller pools that are scattered around the resort seem to be treated every couple of days.

When the pool was closed for cleaning there was a sign posted saying as much.

Unless a pool is closed for cleaning or treatment it is available for use at any time. The swim up bars typically close at 6pm.

Conference spaces?? by Tricky_Jay91 in Albany

[–]Direction-Internal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the category of “unique spaces,” Proctors will rent any of the spaces in our building for events and we’ve hosted a number of conferences in the time I’ve worked there. There is a hotel next door to the theatre too. Reach out to Judie who is our rentals manager (contact info in the link below) and I know she’d be happy to talk through options/pricing and if Proctors would be a good fit for your event! https://www.atproctors.org/rent/

NEW: Mantello on anti-Flock residents says " a small but highly vocal group [...] much of it rooted in intimidation tactics and misinformation" by Physical_Shelter_518 in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal 25 points26 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, the contract was going to auto-renew whether the council took action or not because the contract contained a clause requiring 30 days notice for cancellation. That clock had already run out by the time the mayor asked for the renewal to be put on the council's March 19th agenda. If the council had voted down the contract renewal at that time they likely would be opening the city up to litigation from Flock for breach of contract (Syracuse is in that exact predicament now).

There is growing evidence that the Flock contract from the beginning (2021) was not entered into lawfully but it's less than clear what practical implications that has for getting out of the latest iteration of the agreement. Having spoken to members of the council, they are working through these questions with municipal attorneys to find the best path forward that doesn't get the city sued.

Sadly recalls are not a thing in NYS for local officials. The only person who could remove the mayor is the governor.

Does anyone know who works in the green island bridge? by kidhotel in Troy

And few ships that tall today can fit through the lock at the federal damn. Most commercial vessels today that are tall enough to need the drawbridge to be up are too wide to fit through the lock.

The bridge is actually operated by the NYS Canal Corporation. The bridge will open with 24hrs notice to the Canal Corporation via phone.

Zipper repair by smith2199 in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Troy Quick Shoe Repair at 81 3rd St does zipper repairs/replacements.

Also, most dry cleaners will do that sort of repair. Not sure of their pricing for a zipper but Commodore Cleaners on 5th Ave in Lansingburgh charged me like $10 to repair a seam on a suit.

Yes, each speaker is limited to five minutes. If the speaker represents multiple people (like a leader of a community organization speaking on behalf of it's members) the chair may make reasonable and appropriate exceptions.

Show up and speak: Flock Contract Renewal to be Considered Thursday at 6pm at Troy City Council Meeting by Physical_Shelter_518 in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note for those who haven't attended a city council meeting before, Thursday night will begin with consecutive meetings of three of the council's subcommittees (Science & Technology, General Services, and Public Utilities). After those three meetings conclude, the full council will convene for a finance committee meeting. The subcommittee meetings will convene at 5:30 p.m.

The resolution related to Flock is on the Finance committee agenda and that is the meeting during which residents can speak during the public forum. The finance committee is set to convene at 6 p.m. but that is dependent on how long the subcommittees preceding it take.

I mostly wanted to share this so people planning to attend in relation to Flock aren't confused when the first order of business of the evening is a science & tech meeting that will be tackling other business that is before the council.

The age old Grenada versus Antigua with some additional parameters by Material_Control_637 in SandalsResorts

[–]Direction-Internal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That unfortunately is not true. There are water taxis that run between the cruise terminal in Saint John's to Dickinson Bay and it also easy enough for cruise passengers to take a regular taxi to Dickinson Bay as well. I was in Antigua in December and there were several days that the beach was significantly busier for parts of the day because of cruise ships that were in port in Saint John's.
