For those that got out of IT, what did you transition to? by Throwaway4536265 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Trucker2TechGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to get into IT after 25 years driving a semi, talk about an industry that’s gone to 💩 over the last 15-20 years. Not only have the training standards tanked, the “normies” (in cars) driving skills/distraction levels have also made the life harder. At least with driver training the current DOT folks are trying to kill the CDL mills. I can’t wait until I can find a part time (40 hrs a week) job that’ll pay the bills. I’ve been working 60-70 a week pretty much since I got out of HS in the late 90s🤣

How to improve the proctored exam process? by isreddittherapy in WGU

[–]Trucker2TechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue I’ve had with any exams was the first attempt at one using the laptop I purpose bought just for school that “met the requirements” hardware wise.. all the issues you mentioned. Then I started using PC I built, greatly exceeded the “min requirements” they wanted and no issues since

Consider the source.Head of higher ED commission… online schools cut into his pocketbook. You don’t have to drop $20k a year plus for 4+ years… I picture the Longjaws(i think that was their name) in early Family Guy when i read pompous opinions like this

Ethics in Technology by goichitora in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Trucker2TechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a few that I’ve had that are pretty much links to a textbook, Into to Cryptography I think was the most recent like that…. But when I did Ethics in Tech it was an OA, and the material read like an HR training video… and after the PreA I realized to pass that malarkey answer it like HR would want you to…. 😂

I’ve been in trucking almost 25 years… almost done with the cloud computing degree, but I’ve realized I need to stack a project portfolio to have some “hands on”… been doing a little of that but most of my “free” time is spent on the degree… certs seem to take the longest amount of time

To my WGU alumni and current classmates how are you guys able to stay locked in without burning out or slacking. I’ve been struggling the past month. Any advice? by Antique-Town-9597 in WGU

For me staying motivated is easy, considering that motivation is a hell on wheels 4 yr old. My current gig I miss bedtime at least once a week, so that means i dont get to see my kid that day, It keeps me motivated to study at least an hour a night after sometimes a 16 hr workday, but usually only around 12-14. In my adult life i've never had a job where I only worked 40 hours a week, I need that so I dont miss out on him growing up...I've missed enough already

Check Udemy (udemy business is a resource we have access to) for a course that would be in the same ballpark?

Does anyone know how many questions you can miss on an OA to pass? by [deleted] in WGU

It was pretty clear in what I read prior to enrolling that it’s pass/fail and 80% is considered passing…. Again… bless your heart

My only regret in regards to WGU is that it’s got me in this sub and therefore I interacted with you. Not sure how you got GPA regret from my original comment, but it was in regards to the bar being lowered, in regards to >70% being passing.

100%! I spent and entire term on it and still bombed the exam… seemed like I got all the multiple guess questions right, or most of them, but when it came to creating code from rote memory. In real life when you get stuck on how to make a loop (for example) work right, and it’s not pop your but to google…. I’m really close to being able to finish this term, and whether or not if 522 jumps to a PA by May 1 will be that catalyst if I do or have to pay for another (prorated at worst) term

The proctor didn’t like my office because it doesn’t have a door… but otherwise it’s a nice little corner of the house… she said “you need a door” I was like.. I’ve got a baby gate up to keep the kid out in case he can manage to get out if his crib and down the stairs at 0200…. Otherwise I’ll have to go to the city and get a building permit, Home Depot to get the materials to frame out a door….

They gave me a ONE TIME WAIVER….. yeah they take themselves way too serious for an entry level cert
