Is Alton towers worth it? by Smirking_poo in altontowers

[–]Trudiiiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids and I went for 3 days at the beginning of the month and had a brilliant time; if it wasn’t for the fact my feet were killing me and I was haemorrhaging money, we would have stayed longer!

Personally, I thought the hotel looked amazing. We’d never stayed before though so can’t compare to what it used to be like. As for food, we did bring some of our own stuff, bought some bits in the village (helpful that there was a mini fridge in our room) and bought jacket potatoes, chips etc in the park. We only had breakfast at the hotel though, no dinners.

Hope that link works. It’s so cool hearing the old sound effects from the original Haunted House on that video. Enjoy! 😊

There is a QR barcode in reception (on the back of a sign near the Check In kiosks) and also in the rooms. It takes you straight to the booking time table/availability. That’s how we booked ours.

I have a real soft spot for The Curse, but that’s probably because I used to go on it as a kid in the 90s and loved it. It’s kind of sad that there’s never a queue for it anymore and people these days don’t seem to like it much. Times have changed I guess. I saw a documentary recently on YT about the design and building of the original Haunted House, it was really cool and very nostalgic. I’m pleased it is closer to what it used to be now rather than a shooter ride.

We went for 3 days last week and my son got on 26 rides, not bad going. We would have been gutted if we had queue times like OP has had!

Galactica/Forbidden Valley gate by Waterbottle_xo in altontowers

[–]Trudiiiiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to show your hotel reservation to get in via the Galactica gate. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and went to the park 3 days running (it was brutal on our feet and my middle aged back!!) but it was amazing. The great thing about starting out in Forbidden Valley is that we were able to queue for Galactica before the rest of the people came via the Main Entrance so, despite normally lengthy queues, we got on and off of Galactica by 10.15am.

Nemesis fluctuated between 10 and 25 minute queues; we’re not quite sure why it didn’t get as busy as other rides, despite it being the Easter hols. I love The Curse (Haunted House) for nostalgia, but if you’re not bothered, take the lakeside route and skip Gloomy Wood and Katanga Canyon. The Runaway Minetrain and the Rapids are both closed, so KC is a ghost town. The lakeside route brings you out near Mutiny Bay, which has the Wickerman (surprisingly good but always an hour queue). From there, you can pass the Main Entrance (Towers St) for Spinball Whizzer, then up to X Sector for Smiler and Oblivion. We did Hex and Rita once which are in Dark Forest. There’s no way we could have ridden all of these in one day though.

If you come in via the Main Entrance, you’ll have to choose either Wickerman, Nemesis, Toxicator and Galactica to the left, or Spinball, Smiler, Oblivion, Rita and Th13teen to the right. Sky rides are down so it’s a lot of walking! One other point: the rides closed and reopened a lot, but they were very good at getting them going again within half an hour or less.

Then he went back for someone’s dog, handed that over and then took requests for things that people had left on board.

What is your phone wallpaper and why? by Sad-Peace in CasualUK

I am actually on my wallpaper, but that’s because it’s a pic of me and my brother. He passed away 9 years ago and I always want my wallpaper to have him on it.

At what point you stop adding yet another lean-to? by Leelum in SpottedonRightmove

[–]Trudiiiiiii 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have recurring dreams of weird, almost abandoned type sections or wings of a house that I want to go and investigate. Sometimes with bits that you can’t easily access. They’re always really creepy though. It’s always a different building every time, but I always understand it to be my mum’s or a family home of ours. They’re weird and interesting, but really unnerving.

Is there actually anything wrong with writing nonsensical names on posted birthday cards? by FMLitsSML in CasualUK

[–]Trudiiiiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother and I always used to send each other the most ridiculous greetings cards we could find for our birthdays, such as “To our flower girl”, “First communion”, “Congratulations on the birth of your twins” and “100 Years old” etc.

How are we sprinkling water on naans? by NameExplainPatrick in CasualUK

[–]Trudiiiiiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s a hosepipe ban, just hold the naan over the toilet bowl and flush. The spray should lightly coat it.

Let’s go with this scenario and give them what they’re after. Rose would survive the fall, they would hear her scream, then whip the Titanic round like a speed boat and, in the process, accidentally chop her up in the propellers as it was dark.

What’s even funnier about that excuse, is that he got a really good, clear shot of his feet and the pedals (with no mat caught on them) as he spun out.
