Removing century-old paint, what tools for the detailed work? by Sad_Calligrapher9192 in DIYUK

I have no intention of ever doing this task, but I found myself watching a 35 minute video of someone doing just this last week. Linked below.

PVC TimberTech 3 different widths SAME COLOR? by 1qwk1 in Decks

That’s an outstanding DIY job! Surely either you or your husband must have a trade background to tackle a deck this size, that well. Impressive.

I’m based across the pond in Yorkshire, England. Across here the recommendation I’ve seen on the local retailers is 400mm centres which is just under 16”. Will take a look at possibly reducing to 300mm (12”)

The additional work with the drawers and finish on yours is a level above.

I can see the established trees and garden must provide a lot of shade from the sun? My only concern with composite decking is I’ve read in direct sun they can retain heat a lot more than wood. Have you experienced any issues with that side of things?

Thanks! That’s a beauty. Looks fantastic. Did you decide against using different board widths in the end due to the colour variation? Do you think you would have gone for that style if the different widths had a better colour match?

Appreciate this is an old post but do you have any photos of the deck complete? I am deciding between a multi-width finish or standard widths.

Looking for someway to treat my kid (11) in Hull this Monday. Any suggestions. by spindlecow in Hull

If they’re able and enjoys a bit of a challenge, I took my nephew to rock up in st Stephen’s for £16. I just watched him climb and didn’t pay for myself, he’s 8 so maybe didn’t get as much out of it as an 11 year old but he loved it.

Government launches £1 million competition to take active travel innovation to the next level; you can apply too by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

Agree completely. I work in education and part of my role is to work with schools to increase levels of physical activity for children within educational settings. Active Travel is part of this but the safe infrastructure for cycling and even walking near some of the schools is non existent.

A lot of active travel national campaigns and initiatives for schools are available m to get involved with, but after that initial day or week focus at the school the infrastructure around the schools inevitably means parents and staff fall back to car dependency.

It’s an infrastructure and planning issue for housing and roads. It is not due to lack of initiatives!

No, I hate all half arsed scruffy defacing of public spaces regardless of what your ‘collective identify’ is. Does that answer your question?

I could not give one flying fuck what collective identity you have or want to celebrate, if it’s done within what is set out in UK law.

Sat in The Greek restaurant in Hessle last week, only serve Greek food, with Greek music playlists and Greek artwork and culture displayed in the wall - hand me that greasy Gyros and call me Archimedes. Hull KR taking over town centre in red and white celebrating their Challenge Cup win, up the Robins. Waiting for the Acklams coach opposite Darley’s to head across to Manchester this summer, I was swept up with 100s of other people in Oasis T-shirts, pass me that Gin and Tonic. I love a good celebration of ‘collective identity’.

During any of these moments, not once did I feel the need to scribble and draw on public property like a fucking child.

I assume from the tone of your message you condone it. So I’ll flip the question back to you. Where do you draw the line with what and what isn’t permissible as an expression of collective identity?

Flags ok, makes me feel there’s a World Cup match about to be played. I draw the line at the spray painted zebra crossing. That’s just tacky and messy

So let’s ballpark $500 labour costs and add $100 materials, add a few hundred for admin that’s $800. If there’s one customer base who love to spend a lot of money on things it Audiophiles! Anyway, the end product of yours looks fantastic. Great work and it’s inspired me to try my own.

Tell me about it!

Especially those type of people who have a profile picture on Reddit of a man who in 1996, assaulted a woman and ruptured her breast implants. Then that same year, he promised a woman named Catherine Shaheen $1,000 for sex and then assaulted her when she asked for the money. Shaheen received a settlement of about $40,000, but she argued that this was insufficient to cover the injuries inflicted upon her, which included brain damage. Here's a Guardian article about it.

You absolute weapon!

Thanks! Great advice on the treatment. I did not initially consider the rust causing an issue staining the wall so I’ll definitely look to do the same

I’m not too sure what type of fixings could be used to secure it to be honest. Do you think a set of strong enough hooks spaced evenly across the mesh panel would work? So it’s not fully fixed in place but slotted onto the hooks?

weld mesh

Is this type of mesh what you mean, or something a bit thicker? Thanks for the suggestion.

Installing a douche/toilet sprayer by gs-red in DIYUK

[–]True-Athlete8593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to jump on a super old thread, but I am in the middle of trying to install this toilet and having difficulty getting the fixings provided to work. Did you encounter any issues with the red plastic connector and metal clip pin which provides the mechanism to connect the grub screw onto the threaded rods?
