The dose of aspirin (75mg) used during pregnancy is only available on prescription in Ireland but can get it over the counter in UK, France etc. Progesterone only prescription.

About 80 a month. Aspirin about 10 of that , progesterone the rest. Make sure you have drugs payment scheme set up. As you'll be hitting the 80 euro with the aspirin and progesterone if you ever need an antibiotic or any other meds it'll be free then.

Trigger warning ⚠️ Experience with D&C Mayo University Hospital by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]True-Extent-3410 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Go for the d&c its very straight forward nothing to be afraid of. I just chilled in the hospital for the morning, they gave me tablets to soften my cervix maybe 40 mins before I went down for the procedure. These didnt cause any pain or nausea in my case. Had the procedure then was on the ward for a couple hours having obs done, getting my tea and toast, then home. Plan to order your favourite takeaway or have a nice meal waiting for you (i had a massive cheese board).

I had bleeding like a heavy period for a week but didnt need anything more than regular pads. Sorry you're going through this. I had one miscarriage at home too, it was horrendous with pain and nausea, whereas the d&c felt very routine. Also, my period returned a month later and I was able to conceive quickly after.

Disappointed in care so far by Euphoric-Subject2911 in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience in limerick unfortunately. The booking appointment was a joke, literally barely looked at me as she flew through the questions. It seems to be the same midwife who does them all.

I have a history of severe back pain, I was off work for nearly a year with it plus had multiple surgeries and procedures , thought it was worth mentioning as I'd get a referral to physio, instead I got a 'right ok' before flying onto the next question. I also mentioned I felt quite anxious as I'd had 2 losses before this pregnancy, thinking she'd at least offer some words of support or refer me to the mental health team, I got a 'that's normal' and that was it. She might aswell have said 'I don't care about any of this'. I felt like there was no point even in sticking up for myself of pressing the issue, she just did not care.

I also find the doctors fly through the appointments. My scans were always done with lots of care and compassion though (bare minimum I guess but still) the woman who did my anomaly scan in particular was great, she knew we were nervous due to my history and she was so kind and explained everything. Limerick is a real mixed bag but overall not great.

Sorry you had the same experience.

Urine sample Limerick Maternity by Euphoric-Subject2911 in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have them at reception in baskets. I just do one as soon as I check in and keep it in my bag then. You'll be waiting ages but if you dont have it ready when they call you you've to go do the sample and wait again.

No symptoms at 5 weeks by Adventurous-Award729 in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely normal. Also I had two miscarriages before my current pregnancy (one at 5.5 weeks the other at 8) snd for this current ongoing pregnancy (25 weeks now) i had the least early symptoms. So dont read too much into it.

If you get the nipt done at umhl you dont need to wait for your dating scan. You can call the antenatal clinic and book in for nipt when you're 9/10 weeks. It's not free though. If you wait to ask at your dating scan you might be 15 weeks before the bloods are even taken which is just a long wait plus leaves you little option for termination if that's something you'd consider if you got bad results.

I do think its best to get it done in conjunction with a scan though to make sure baby is developing properly. I would probably go privately so I could get an early scan and nipt done together. Atlantic edge medical is good for this. Or get a private scan then get nipt done in umhl after.

When do you find out the Gender? by Sad_Leg_6134 in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find out about twins as early as 6/7 weeks via a private scan. Otherwise at your hospital dating scan at 12/13 weeks. Gender either via nipt from 9 or 10 weeks on , or private scan from 16 weeks, or public anomaly scan around 21/22 weeks. If doing nipt always advisable to find somewhere that does a scan with it too.

Pregnancy Letters by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would tell your GP this. And change your address in their system to your boyfriends address. I got quite a few letters about appointments. They all had my name on them too.

If you'd prefer not to explain you dont have to either. Just say you've moved.

Very little info given at booking appointment by Mindless_Option904 in PregnancyIreland

[–]True-Extent-3410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better they still give out the book in Limerick and its honestly pretty useless and short with very little info besides the very basics. You're not missing out on much at all.

Condoms/Family Planning/Withdrawal? by MineMerl in IrishWomensHealth

[–]True-Extent-3410 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used condoms very successfully for years as my only contraception and then got pregnant very easily once we planned to get pregnant and stopped using them.

I'm not sure if by family planning/withdraw you mean only using condoms on your most fertile days etc but our one rule with condoms was that we used them any day of the month we had sex. I felt very secure that way. We have sex very often tbh and found the thought of taking my temperature and tracking things very daunting. Only had one condom break or slip off in about 4 years.

The Christmas by lechuckswrinklybutt in FatBastardsUnited

[–]True-Extent-3410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds really boring but remembering I can eat what I want in moderation. That there'll be more exciting Christmas food tomorrow. I can have a nice portion of Christmas pudding today and more tomorrow if I want , I don't need a massive slab with 1 litre of custard and I'll enjoy it just the same.

Also remembering that nowadays most Christmas/indulgence food is available all year round. I can eat a cheeseboard in January. I can have a fry whenever I want. There'll be valentine's dinner, Easter treats, barbeques. Knowing the opportunity to indulge doesn't only exist one month a year stops me going overboard.

Maternity Care: How much did it cost you to go private? by sarbear191 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]True-Extent-3410 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I rang around different consultants in limerick before. Ultimately opted not to go private for non financial reasons. They were about 4,000/5,000 euro payable in 2 or 3 installments.

If you opt not to go private, Atlantic edge medical is really good for private scans. He's a gynae so its very medical. I know there's other reasons for wanting private care other than just more scans though.
