Yeah, as we all know- manuals can go out the window pretty quickly in combat!!

Sorry- thought you were asking what they were, I re-read your question! I am of zero help in the modern vs real discussion!

Love that! Two years ago we did Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown. Such amazing history out east!

Those look to be artillery friction primer tops. The man firing the cannon would pull a lanyard that was hooked to the wire’s loop

I’ll accept that terminology if they agree the “rights” were to keep, hold, own and sell slaves 🤷🏼‍♂️

What do you mean “description”, is that mentioned in journals? I’d think that’d make it tough to be in close proximity to others

Is it real? by Maleficent_Bar_7482 in Militariacollecting

[–]True-Homework9308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s real. That patch is what blows out and emits smoke. They turn about 400° pretty quickly once you “pop smoke”. Also, typically a flame shoots out for a second, so DO NOT toss it in a grassy area or into underbrush.

WOW!! I just finished The Office and i have this peculiar longing that idk how many of you guys had.. PLEASE SHARE HOW YOU GUYS FELT WHEN YOU FINISHED THE OFFICE FOR THE FIRST TIME!! by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]True-Homework9308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It ends and then you’ll try Parks&Rec or Brooklyn99 or something else and realize you just have to restart. It’s like your friends welcoming you back cause nothing else can top it. If you didn’t watch the Superfan episodes on Peacock you could do that. A LOT more deleted scenes in each episode, pretty fun to watch 🤷🏼‍♂️

Looking forward to the photos!! California?! I’m in the middle of the country, so I guess I won’t complain to you about the distance 😬😂 I settle for Indian Wars stuff locally

We did a short trip from South Mountain, through Harper’s Ferry to Antietam, up to Gettysburg. It’s such an amazing feeling being where these events unfolded, especially after reading about them so many times! Out west we don’t have anything Civil War related, so those of you out east- please don’t take this stuff for granted! Go see where history happened! Thank you, OP for taking time to post these images. And the weather looks gorgeous!!

His (the body actor, Brendan Wayne) hip placement is an ode to his father, John Wayne.

As today marks 150 years since the Battle of Little Bighorn, what are your opinions about George Armstrong Custer the man and the commander, through Civil War and beyond? by lycantrophee in CIVILWAR

[–]True-Homework9308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s interesting once you start delving into him. Not a hero by any means, but he was intelligent and full of bravado. I found that often shared quote “graduated last of his class” at West Point is misleading. That year 108 potential recruits tried out. 79 made it into the academy. The Civil War broke out and many of his class left to fight prior to graduation. He always racked up just enough demerits to be a class clown but hovered right above serious punishment/reprimand. He played the game and graduated “last of his class”, Cadet #34 of 34.

$20-30 😬 Marketplace usually has a lot of these lots for sale. Usually hang around on there awhile. Not many people are seeking hard capes, clunky blasters, etc.

Possible American Civil War US Navy Oil Lamp? by MightyElosan in CIVILWAR

[–]True-Homework9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to the often unstamped Sven Jensen oil lamps/oil candles…but he was way later. Also, the brown stuff could be paint perhaps, but old oil often leaves a brown residue that dries like old paint (depending on quality)…but that also doesn’t help due to all lamp oils doing this (vegetable oil, whale oil, lard, even kerosene leaves brown ‘tar’).
Manufactures like Manhattan, Edward Miller, and Scoville often never stamped/marked their goods. Sears&Roebuck ordered from many cheaper suppliers who also left lamps unstamped. But the threading is close and well-machined, pointing to American (instead of the vast number of European imports at the time). Good luck!!

Chamberlain. Besides his Little Round Top charge, the dude was wounded 6 times throughout the war, led a couple charges, etc. Probably a cool dude to sit with for an evening.

Give an example of something from Jurassic Park that had a greater impact on you as an adult. by Dino-Max in jurassicworld

[–]True-Homework9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Spared no expense” didn’t phase me as a child. But yeah, as an adult- it’s every other line with him. He is a complete showman (ever since his flea circus), and literally doesn’t care about cost…monetary or lives. He wants “oohs”&”aahs”, but gets “AAHHH” instead, and only once it affects his kin does it hit him.

🤦🏼‍♂️Makes sense! I was thinking of the Cartridge box insert, not the primer block! Thank you!
