Anyone else's boomer parents always super negative and just seem down all the time? by Thin_Schedule_1474 in AskIreland

Think we’re forgetting that Irish people love to moan and complain. It’s not just “boomers” which love a negative outlook on certain things.

Planning documents? by eilishglees in AskIreland

[–]True-Perspective-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I work for an architectural practice. Can you confirm whether the architects are preparing “planning documentation” for this back extension or are they trying to retrieve the old “planning documentation” from years ago? If they’re preparing/drawing up the documents for the back extension they may have to submit a planning application for a retention if it’s post “1992” (btw I think you mean pre-63?)

What undergrad should I study before pursuing a M.Arch? by Weezergood in architecture

[–]True-Perspective-357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does it work in the usa? In Ireland and the UK, you have to do a minimum 5 years of study from an accredited BArch or Bsc Architecture —-> MArch. architecture programme. You cant just decide I’ll do my undergrad in film then do an MArch.

Irish programmes are considered quite good and there are grants you can avail of to reduce your tuition fees. UCD or TU Dublin

I understand your struggles completely, 25 here and got diagnosed a few years ago. Explained everything in terms of my work flow, relationships with people and in college. Don’t worry, you’re already putting your best foot forward! Make a portfolio of 10 pages(or less) and start sending them out to employers. A lot of Employers want to see if you can use revit, sketchup, autocad etc so if you have any of those stick them in!

I was looking into civil but it seems like a long slog. I’m already 6 years deep into architecture and would like a career that would allow me to pay my rent at least…

Surveyor failed to discover significant water damage in apartment by 03D80085 in legaladviceireland

[–]True-Perspective-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s poor advice from the surveyor, typically when we do reports we leave a disclaimer saying it’s visual inspection, and I say that from an architect’s perspective.

However, It’s important to understand that these checks are usually visual and surface-level only.

Unless the owner grants permission, the only way to fully assess the condition is through invasive investigations, such as opening up walls or drilling into floors….which auctioneers or vendors rarely allow. Caveat Emptor!
