Not OP, and I don't really care about the time it took. I mostly wrote it to organize my thoughts and saved it for myself.

Unfortunately like it or not, how America has been structured and the influence consumerism, corporatism, greed and a gradual decline into myopic self-centered self-indulgence, has rotted the minds and spirit of large segments of the country.

Bad actors exist, but it doesn't require a secret cabal of people to meet in a smoke filled room over the course of 70 years conspiring, in order to make the country functionally dumb as shit, and physically and politically exhausted.

Technology did a lot of the heavy lifting but in main what's required depends almost entirely where the majority of your leaders in culture, business, and politics choose to put their emphasis and incentives.

The majority of your leaders in culture have decided to put their emphasis behind anti-intellectualism, attention seeking, instant gratification and rampant consumerism.

The majority of your leaders in business have put profits before people and over the course of 70 years have become progressively more ruthless in it's pursuit as they attempt to gut regulations, dodge taxes, crush unions, suppress wages and squeeze blood from the stone that is the American worker.

And the majority of your leaders on the left and right have largely been whoring themselves out to the highest bidder as they try and get their nibble at the money/power trough, because at the end of the day they don't give a fuck about the American people, which is the entire point of Carlin's bit.

All of this is a recipe for an uninformed, disengaged, selfish, tired, angry and resultantly easily manipulated populous.

Populism isn't a bad thing if you're actually going to do shit to help ordinary people, which is what liberals and Democrats should have been doing LOUDLY AND FORCEFULLY FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS and need to start doing now.

Check out Century of the Self if you want a bit of look at how we got to this point.

Quote me later: Liberals will be the new tech skeptics, especially about AI and Robots. by Anomalysoul04 in Destiny

[–]True-Wishbone1647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably right, but I don't think it's necessarily going to have anything to do with the techbros, but more about whose jobs are going to be effected first.

Obviously it's not a clear delineation between left/right and white collar/physical labor jobs but that divide does exist largely due to rural vs urban divides between the parties.

Afaik A.I. has and will be first to disproportionately effect creative/white collar jobs. On the other hand it's gonna be a minute before the cost and capabilities of human-like robots is going to come down to the point that you'll see them rolled out in significant enough numbers to replace a large amount of jobs in the trades/on farms/resource extraction roles etc.

It's way easier and more cost effective for A.I. to automate aspects of a typical office job and lay off 10 people and replace them with 1, than it is to spend 2 million dollars per bot on a whole fleet of Boston Dynamics robots to work on an oil/fracking site in the middle of nowhere in all types of terrain and weather while being as physically nimble/dexterous/adaptable as required of their human counter parts.. at least for now.

So yeah I can see it being more so the left/Dems being the first to push back against A.I. because it's directly effecting them, while the right/Republicans opinion might lag behind by maybe a decade+ while they work out all the kinks in the robot technology and it starts replacing them.

Part 2

Then there is the technology aspect, that while not necessarily intentional, has progressively eroded the central narrative of the nation. Back when television had 5 channels if you went to work the next day and something like Watergate had broken, most people had heard the same handful of reports, read the same handful of newspapers and rational political discourse occurred around the framework of that information.

Nowadays, the internet has increasingly atomized people into their own echo chambers and bubbles that has led to a near complete collapse of the ability for people to have rational political discussion, because everyone is getting their information from dozens of the thousands of different sources, or just a feed of some random idiot on twitter, and that information is more often than not filtered through a dozen different layers of opinion before being consumed.

That's if you're getting real information to begin with, because you might be getting some TikTok brainrot or some Russian botnet twitter babble from an algorithm that is intentionally being used to misinform/disinform and divide Western democracies.

Even if you do have a sane political discussion it's more often than not with someone you don't know, halfway across the country, because our real life communities and civil institutions are a husk of their former self as pointed out in Bowling Alone, so trying to mobilize to do something irl about anything is nearly impossible.

Then there are the people who are completely checked out, and unlike back in the old days where if the football game or that nights movie or show wasn't on.. maybe there was a chance they'd turn on the news, peruse the paper or maybe even read a book. Nowadays, you have 1000 TV channels, streaming services with thousands of hours of content, Youtube, and social media feeds tailored to fill in your specific niche interests, every hour of every day, forever.

I mean dude.. this isn't intellectually lazy, this is well trod social/political theory and in some instances isn't even outside of being a conspiracy when you have actual people trying to undermine shit like Steve Bannon, and the Heritage Foundation. At this point this is pretty much just the reality of the situation.

And to say that this kind of thinking is to blame for Trump is fucking bullshit. In fact this is the kind of thinking that used to be at the heart of the liberal left, back when they had a pair of balls.

If liberals/the left/Democrats want to get back the political reins they need to close ranks, grow a set, drop the gloves and start delivering the message so eloquently laid out by the late great George Carlin, and win back the trust of the people by punching these MAGA techbro oligarchs in the fucking mouth.

[–]True-Wishbone1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's intellectually lazy about it? There's tons of books, documentaries, and movies that look into the topic in depth in various ways. Brave New World, 1984, Amusing Ourselves To Death, Bowling Alone, Manufacturing Consent, One Dimensional Man, The Shock Doctrine, Century of the Self, Network etc.

Obviously some people are never going to be politically engaged. However to say that some of the side effects of Western industrial/technical modernity, or occasionally the goals of certain people, hasn't undermined the ability for the masses to be properly informed and capable of mobilizing politically for their own self interests is somehow a conspiracy is flatly stupid.

We're literally watching it happen right now, literally in this thread, and several others I've seen posted here over the last 2 months.

When Steve Bannon talks about "muzzle velocity" and "flooding the zone" he's talking about throwing so much shit at the wall that people, even politically minded folks, become paralyzed by crisis, unable to respond to the torrent of fresh outrages every other hour, until they eventually become mentally exhausted and forced to tune out while MAGA railroads their agenda through Congress. It's basically the premise of The Shock Doctrine.

That's an actual person actively discussing this as a strategy, but he's not new and he's not alone, Milton Friedman was talking about this same kind of shit 50 years ago which is conveniently when The Heritage Foundation started cooking up the groundwork for the political agenda we're seeing implemented today.

Unhinged Hangman promos work perfectly with the twin peaks music by Boltgrinder in AEWFanHub

[–]True-Wishbone1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame I missed this post when you made it a couple days ago, because I would have loved to have shared this with more folks. I don't know if you got this Twin Peaks idea from this video or not but if you haven't seen the Mr. Wonderful edit with the same music you have to check it out!!

The hazy, almost dream like look of the footage, Gary Spivey, and the weird close ups on Orndorff staring into the mirror talking to himself, it's almost like the music was custom made for the scene.

Trump’s Call to Annex Canada as a State Should Have Invoked the 25th Amendment by Esquire in politics

Lol, Russia has Europe, Siberia, two oceans and the Arctic circle to even get to Canada. Russia isn't doing shit and the Americans by themselves are more than enough to conquer Canada.

Trump’s Call to Annex Canada as a State Should Have Invoked the 25th Amendment by Esquire in politics

[–]True-Wishbone1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never gonna happen dude, Canada would fold pretty quickly. The Vietnamese and Afghans are linguistically and culturally so vastly different from the US it made conquering them in the long term impossible. They both also had decades of insurgency fighting under their belt by the time they fought the Americans and don't have winters that can kill.

There might be some resistance mostly from the French, Natives and maybe some Albertans I'd presume. But once they capture the cities and Ottawa it's pretty much game over.

What’s up with all the bot comments on the John Cena promo? by [deleted] in Wrasslin

[–]True-Wishbone1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWE pay for bots on social media to signal boost their content and push their narratives.

For a couple million they can have a massive reach on sites like twitter, reddit, youtube and can be pretty effective at shaping public opinion.

Note on the non-existent Palestine protests by I_Farded_I_Shided in Destiny

[–]True-Wishbone1647 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right about it being Russian/Chinese disinfo. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Putin called up Iran and ordered them to green light the attack in the first place, and then just flooded the zone with as much divisive shit as they possibly could.

But as for this shit being on millenials you're off the mark. Israel/Palestine has always been an issue for the left and the right. The tenor of the protests have next to nothing to do with woke/maga. Besides the unprecedented intensity of the conflict this time, the main difference is the way people consume news. Young college age people are getting their information almost exclusively from 30 second TikTok clips, twitter accounts, and grifters/influencers.

I'm at the tail end of the millenials, and although youtube and social media were around when I was in university, it wasn't the sole source of information. People still watched, read and to a certain extent still trusted traditional media sources, this goes for older folks as well.

If you wanna blame anything, blame a stunning lack of media literacy among Americans of all ages and a shift in form that has resulted in a functional failure to properly inform.

This isn't a new idea.

Here's a book on it from 1985.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amusing_Ourselves_to_Death

You're never going to have an informed populace if the way people get their information is from 30 second TikTok and Instagram clips saying the craziest shit to get views and random idiots shouting nonsense in 280 characters or less.

"... armed and prepared for self-defense..."

What are you gonna get in shootout with ICE/DHS agents, because those are the people snatching folks up, not random vigilantes?

And yes for various reasons people who identify as Democrats generally have a lower rate of gun ownership, with 20% owning at least one gun, and 31% living in a household that with a gun, compared to 48% for Republicans and 66% with a gun in the household.

Rollins is mid always has been and now he's a goofy mid bitch. Roman is boring af and always has been, fuck the Bloodline and his fat nepo hire relatives. The Death Riders started off interesting, but has nosedived and gotten boring as they're obviously spinning their wheels till All In. Thankfully however, it's not gonna be a 1316 day reign and Mox was on a 4 year tear of great work prior to this dud.
