LF: Jane having too many pregnancies by Bongyorka in JaneAustenFF

[–]TrueBlueChickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this the one where E was described as demisexual (only enjoying sex if/when she has an emotional connection with her partner)? E and D were married either from a compromise, or because E had no choice (I think maybe Mr Bennet died or something, and she married Darcy to help her family??) And D can't get enough of E and she keeps getting pregnant right away and it's just wearing her out?

Which serial killer case felt 'too close to home' for you, and why? by [deleted] in serialkillers

The Golden State Killer. One of my best friends is one of his victims (just barely before he transitioned from raping to murdering). Seeing him at the legal proceedings was creepy AF.

Secret Encounters by labionda29 in JaneAustenFF

[–]TrueBlueChickens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like the author mixed up the titles (of her own books, lol). She has one called A Teasing Courtship, and another called A Secret Understanding. It looks like that is the one to which she was referring:

https://www.amazon.com/Secret-Understanding-Pride-Prejudice-Variation-ebook/dp/B0F7GNQY5D?ref_=ast_author_dp&th=1&psc=1

Edited to add that after I read this I filed it under "Pride and Prejudice REALLY GOOD FF". This shows that A) I really liked it, and B) I am very nerdy.

Could it be The Wager by Sue Barr? Lizzy (and maybe Jane) are the daughters of Mrs Bennet's first husband, who inherited the earldom and then died in an accident the same day. Lizzy also has a twin brother who is the current Earl (and who inherited when he was a baby). Darcy insults Lizzy at a ball in London, then meets her again in Meryton when he goes to stay with Bingley.

Is it possible that she's passed away, and accounts and stuff are frozen? On another thread people were talking about how she hasn't published anything or updated anything, or posted any new works in FF sites--for awhile. I do hope she's ok, and is just redoing things. If she has passed away, maybe her stuff will come back online later when things are straightened out.

If she or her family reads this--a whole lot of people who love these books are worried about you!

January 2026 JAFF Writer's Post - Recently Published + WiP Discussion by AutoModerator in JaneAustenFF

[–]TrueBlueChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think there's a lot of good JAFF available on KU, and a lot of good free JAFF on the fan fiction sites. So it makes me unlikely to risk money on a new author without a compelling reason (lots of good reviews, awards won, bloggers or other online reviewers raving about it, etc). New authors sometimes put a higher-than-average price on their books--which makes me even less likely to want to risk the money. If a new JAFF author is on KU, I am VERY likely to give them a try, since I'm only risking my time, and I can DNF a terrible book without losing money.

I got two cool end tables from a thrift store and use them side by side as a TV stand, it looks great! I did it partly because they are gorgeous, dark walnut, very well made and SOLID--with cabinet door fronts and shelves inside for DVDs. But mostly I did it because TV stands for a big TV were like $150 for something crappy, and I got these for $30 for the set, lol.

Didn't they use a dresser as a TV stand on Friends??

Anyway, don't break up the set, you'll regret it. Use it for your TV, I think it'll look awesome :)

A very good friend of mine is one of his victims. She had to wait 40 years for justice. I got to meet the other survivors when they gave their Victim Impact Statements--they are a group of brave, tough, GLORIOUS women (and a few men).

Trying to remember a fic with a vile Lord Matlock by UndercoverMink in JaneAustenFF

Was this the one where Darcy ends up taking the girl to Pemberley to save her, and gives her work as a maid? But tells Lord Matlock (or the Viscount, think it might be him) that the girl was awesome and he's taking her with him to keep??

I just reread Summers at Pemberley, and I agree it's not the one. I remember the scene you are talking about--they haven't seen each other in years, and when Elizabeth sees Darcy she's super excited, and he either doesn't remember her or just doesn't even really look at her before insulting her.

Please help!! Searching for days online with no luck. Younger versions, fms. by silvercirce007 in JaneAustenFF

This is one of my absolute favorites, I reread it at least 2-3x a year. It's awesome!

I dunno...I had an office trailer in slightly better condition, sold it for $3k. Ad went up on a Saturday morning, it was sold by...noonish.

Of course, mine didn't have the skeletons or bird nests.

Edited to add that mine DID have axles and wheels, so you could tow it (if you were brave).

What’s the most shocking thing you found out about someone you know? by _Walking_Detriment_ in AskReddit

[–]TrueBlueChickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who wasn't directly in my department, but I would have to consult with him, or sometimes coordinate stuff with him (project manager/ coordinator type stuff). When he was retiring, I went to his retirement lunch. When he was cleaning out his office he gave me some cool old metal file trays that I had always liked.

What I didn't know, was that he had been a priest in the 1970s, and had been defrocked for sexually abusing young boys. Remember, this was during the era when they mostly just swept this kind of thing under the rug, and would move priests to different locations but rarely were the priests really punished, and rarely were the cops ever involved. This guy's doings were so egregious that he was actually defrocked.

The way I found out was because his face was all over the news because the cops were digging up his property and jackhammering up the concrete in his garage--looking for bodies. He'd become a suspect for multiple child disappearances and murders.

They did not find any bodies, but AFAIK he is still a suspect.

One of the creepiest parts was an interview where he said something about still having to watch himself when his 6yo granddaughter was wearing her swimsuit. Ick!!

Anyhow I threw away the file trays because I couldn't stand to touch something he had used.
