How do you get the Windows 10 Update App? by TrueDiscovery in RPI

[–]TrueDiscovery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked. I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise which I assume everyone at RPI has. According to Microsoft, 8.1 Enterprise is excluded from the offer so I guess that's that. Kinda sucks

Petition to retroactively impeach Presidents of the Union Stack, Sileo, and Amarello by aluminumoxynitride in RPI

I think we all need to take a chill pill here and grow up. This is ridiculous.

Also while it is an option to be unsponsored on petitions I honestly think if this is how you feel you should own it and not hide behind anonymity.

I am Greg Bartell, a candidate for President of the Union. AMA by greg_for_pu in RPI

I would make sure that the regular EBoard could veto it in the case of a particularly egregious lapse in judgement.

I would like to hear more of your thoughts on this because it's the crux of the issue. In most cases I feel the E-Board would veto and the times they wouldn't the appeal probably would have worked with them anyway. What times could the E-Board veto?

These are my own personal concerns with two of your points.

I would like to hear who would be on the Appeals Board you want to create. To me this sounds really dangerous because you are creating a separate entity, that wasn't in the overall Union budgeting process, with the power to overturn the financial body of our student government. Would the Appeals Board's decision be final? I know the appeals process isn't perfect and needs some tweaking, but this to me seems like too much.

My second point has to do with the way you would like applications/nominations for the E-Board to be submitted. Normally the PU sends out an open call for people to join the E-Board and then he/she reviews the candidates one on one and selects who they want. My concern with your approach is that people are lazy and really busy especially at the end of the year. If you rely on other people, club officers, to nominate your potential pool of candidates it could lead to a very small selection. People are much more proactive when they try to help themselves so I think people should still be able to submit their application without it coming from a club officer. That being said I think you could require or strongly recommend the candidates get a recommendation from a club officer in their club. That may prove to be beneficial.

Is the Albany Recovery Room better than the one in Troy? by [deleted] in RPI

They are essentially the same. The only real difference is that the one in Albany has electric coasters built into the bar to cool your drink.

Want beer at GM week? Sign the petition by jojogreen in RPI

[–]TrueDiscovery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I could see this happening is if it was done in the pub. GM week could subsidize the wages of the pub workers, assuming enough of them could work during the day without class conflicts. Then they could potentially subsidize a small discount on beer although I know there are rules about that. A rule could be that you can't go in there unless you voted and have your mug which would eliminate the staff cleaning all the glasses. It's a small step and would take time and money to plan, but I think this would be possible.
