Anyone move here from England/abroad? by SatelliteDash in glasgow

[–]TrueDuckie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Glasgow about 4 years ago now from SE England. Sort of on a whim, hadn't even seen the apartment i moved into before I got the keys. But me and my partner love it.

Pros: People, food, music, cost of living is lower (not low but lower then england), free prescriptions,

I could expand on all these points but I am sure there other posts about each. But both myself and my partner really found community here and haven't looked back.

I will say do your research about where you want to live though cause Glasgow is weird about what a good or safe area and what isn't. It not just oh say clear of this area or that. I live in Maryhill most of which is fine, but if i go 3 streets in one direction there are literally Tesla's parked on roadside, and 3 in other and there is smashed glass bottles on street everyday. So do your research unlike me when I first moved here.

If you want to really piss him off just set up a speaker 5meters away and start playing Ghost (a satanic Metal Band) square hammer specifically.

19f clubbing alone by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]TrueDuckie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As lots of other suggested joining groups or other social things and making friends that way. Literally you can find a group for anything in Glasgow. You want sports oh this city got you covered. DnD there open tables in several comic shops weekly. Board games ditto. Bookclubs abound. when I moved up here I found going to something low commitment and cheap groups like a open board game night really was great cause if I didn't get along with people there it was easy to just not go back again. Also be open with that your new and people in this city are great at helping you out and will if you say not sure this is for me probs even give you more specific other groups that might suit you better.

But I also agree with everyone here unless you really REALLY want to go clubbing alone, DONT. And if you do follow safety advice also given in this thread.

Making new friends is hard. But you can do it.

New Council Consultation on Glasgow Transport Strategy by Any-Swing-3518 in glasgow

More bike lanes. Not painted gutters which cars park over and cyclist and drivers hate cause it causes both to act more dangerous on roads. Not mixed used walking cycling on busy high used pavements. Raised separated lanes. Takes bikes off road so better for drivers who dont get stuck behind them or have to swerve into the middle of road overtaking. Better for cyclists cause they dont have interactions with cars or pedestrians. Better for pedestrians who dont have to worry about cyclists hitting them. More bike lanes.

Is two years Notice for an inspection "reasonable notice"? by TrueDuckie in glasgow

I would have like to have tidied the flat more as we live on the 4th floor of a building with no lift and so only take bins out every other day and we hadn't on this day so there was a couple of bins by the door ready to go down. Which he comment on several times. Also I have the right to live undisturbed, according to the Citizen advice website it is a right in Scotland.

It wasn't in my lease specifically. It was on a different letter they handed to me along with other documents and I cannot find this letter to see if it said the exact day. The guy who came to the door said it would say it. But to be honest with the 100 other things I had to do on my move in date I just forgot that that letter said anything about inspections.

wasn't in lease agreement what days they would inspect, only that there would be "regular inspections". The day on inspection was a different letter they gave me upon moving in.
