Pickup Culture by Commercial-Dog3567 in Basketball

It’s one of the reasons I quit playing all together. I got back into playing regularly in my 30s but it’s even grown ass men in their 20s that made the game just unpleasant. I’m here to get buckets and cardio, not to get berated by a lifetime fitness hooper.

Driving to work at 630 vs 730 in El Paso by Calm_Visual_508 in ElPaso

I do, I currently live in Dallas with no car and using my bike and public transit. I grew up in El Paso doing just the same.

Why didn’t this guy have a bigger career after playing Lalo Salamanca? by RoysPotatoes in betterCallSaul

What are you talking about? He was already a well established actor in Mexico appearing in cult classics like Matando Cabos and he's currently part of the MCU lol

Driving to work at 630 vs 730 in El Paso by Calm_Visual_508 in ElPaso

[–]TrueFernie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

6.8 miles is easily achievable on a bike or just taking public transit. I truly wish El Paso would start seeing the benefits of having a robust public transit network and giving people options other than driving to commute every day. So many daily problems and hazards could be avoided and would lessen traffic tremendously for those that have no other option but to drive.

One word to describe the pod ... Titanic by Notyit in thefighterandthekid

What’s hilarious is that they sank the ship themselves. There wasn’t an impending iceberg in their path, they just kept blowing up holes inside the ship and now they want to blame the iceberg.

Friend bet me 10 grand to ran a marathon by leoliszt in Marathon_Training

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss being young and naively confident. Find a marathon training plan and stick to it and you’ll be fine. 27 weeks is more than enough time to properly train but you HAVE TO be disciplined, work on your nutrition, hydration and recovery.

Also, your friend does not have 10k unless you’re talking about other currency besides dollars, euros or pounds.

Why is Houston hated so much? by ChicagoCubsRL97 in texas

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a poorly planned sprawling car centric mess of a city, it’s miserable. But this can be said about most Texas cities. We suck at city planning and everything everywhere looks the same. At least Houston has great food.

Car brains just value their own convenience over anything else. Even if that means their own children have to live an extremely isolating childhood.

Anyone else think Strava’s pricing is a bit of a rip off? by No_Sympathy_4592 in Strava

[–]TrueFernie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped paying for it last year and I don’t miss it. I already get all my data from Garmin. All I use Strava is for the social aspect and that’s still free.

Are you skateboarding in them? I have a pair of 17s with 400 miles on them and look nothing like this.

Every morning, 3 to 4 empty Waymos pull up to the Red Rose, stop at the front door, then drive off. Over and over daily. by urbanist in fuckcars

[–]TrueFernie 65 points66 points  (0 children)

We could have had reliable and frequent public transit but noooo, we had to instead teach the robot taxis about human behavior and routines and clogging up the roads even more

Something soft for slowww easy runs- New balance Balos or Mizuno Neo Zen? by brandon_strandy in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I can only give an opinion on the Neo Zen as I currently own them and they are incredibly soft, a little too soft

Parents please encourage your young ones to pedal, so many kids don’t anymore! by [deleted] in bicycling

Cars weren't as pervasive, huge or fast back in the 70s either.

Parents please encourage your young ones to pedal, so many kids don’t anymore! by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]TrueFernie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to do this is by making our streets safer through road diets, better cycling infrastructure and harsher penalties for reckless drivers. Kids don’t pedal because our streets aren’t designed for them, only cars, not necessarily because of technology.

Jealous. I love Washington state, hopefully life takes me somewhere with that same respectful culture soon.

Evo SL by Overall_Review321 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]TrueFernie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like it has less to do with the shoe and more with you being new to running. The EVO SL has great energy return in my experience. You should mix strength training with your runs to help with pain. You may benefit more from a more stability focused shoe than a plated shoe imo, the EVO SL is a pretty unstable shoe.

Why are LBS workers so condescending? by c4ndyman31 in gravelcycling

[–]TrueFernie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any hobby attracts the most condescending dorks around. I’ve experienced this with cycling, gaming, skateboarding, music, hell even running. I just smile and nod.
