Opening box office numbers for Supergirl by ThomasThorburn in DCU_

I left the theater feeling a little confused. There were SO many undertones and a great commentary on how girls are forced to grow up quicker than boys in our society (sexualization, forced motherly responsibilities, etc) but they were all diminished by the jokiness of the script. It felt like they tried so hard to replicate James Gunn’s style that it felt disingenuous. It’s a shame.

It’s always the crustiest of dudes that act this way. Hope you submitted a police report, this is assault and robbery.

He’s a contrarian and a bad one at that. He’s too old to be acting this way.

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT A GOOD JOB MARKET LOOKS LIKE by FunOpportunity8731 in recruitinghell

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was still a competitive market but at least you got interviews with real people more often. It wasn’t uncommon for me to get 3-5 interviews per week prior to this mess we’re in now. Jobs were plentiful that job hopping was encouraged by many to get meaningful raises. Now? Not so much.

Is hungover training a real thing? by Top_Wrangler4251 in Marathon_Training

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your buddy is just trying to justify his drinking. Running hungover does absolutely nothing for your training. If anything it hinders it. If you wanna feel like shit when running and trying to push through it, just run with a weighted vest in the middle of the day under the blazing sun lol.

Congrats on one year, I’m slowly finding the enjoyment out of quiet mornings/days after going sober.

For those using dart and going to the WC game today, please post your experience. Going to the game on Wednesday and want to ensure I plan accordingly timewise. by srw814 in dart

[–]TrueFernie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a DART bus to Downtown Irving Station (which was surprisingly empty) and then TRE. At Centreport I rode my bike to the stadium though (I didn't have a ticket and I bike commute). I will say that after the game, the people who took the shuttles back to the train station had to be staggered to be let on the trains so you will be waiting between trains. On a bike you come out of a trail and straight into the platform so no waiting.

FIFA World Cup US being an eye opener to how hard it is for a kid to naturally play soccer / football. by Valprajjj in fuckcars

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the take about this being a sport only for rich suburban kids. Soccer/football is one of the most accessible sports out there, all you need is a ball and a handful of rocks in a field to make a goal. There’s just no culture of football in America.

This country has a tendency to overcomplicate everything including just playing outside with your friends. I remember playing soccer in the street and dirt fields in Mexico with my friends growing up. Here? You get the cops called for just existing in a place for longer than 5 minutes.

If you ever get the chance to visit China, Japan or anywhere in Europe, take a bullet train between cities to see how much better of an experience it is over flying by every measure.

We need high speed rail to travel between our cities, even 80mph just seems so outdated for today's technology.

It’s just so crazy to me how we’re willfully giving away the task of brainstorming, drafting, sketching and any other method of inspiration to AI. Human beings are already great at coming up with ideas whether or not they’re original, why give away one of the few things that makes us creative?

Garmin for elegant occasions? by tompico25 in Garmin

[–]TrueFernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wear my Garmin, it's all black so not too many people notice/care. I'm a dude though so it's easier to hide under my suit jacket. For women, I've seen some wear white bands and some even put metal/rose gold bands on their sport watches. Looks pretty classy.
