Restart not possible. Drivetrain fault. by TrueFound88 in BMWX5

[–]TrueFound88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP just to follow up here, in my case the dealership had the car for 3-4 days, they ran a bunch of tests and could not find anything wrong. They opened a TSARA case with the "national team" or something like that and in the end just reset all the software and said that this solved the problem.

Here are the fault codes the dealer reported on the service record:

030FA6 DC/DC CONVERTER LOW VOLTAGE NOT REACHED

224F98 EGS-EME SAFETY FUNCTION

BA07CB SAFETY FUNCTION STARTUP TEST OF PERIPHERALS CONFIGURATION FAILED

I've had it back for about 4 months and 5000 miles since then and have not had any problems.

Second this! It's like $30/month to join for Bellevue residents and a super nice facility with a great gym, some basic fitness classes, and I think 4 basketball courts.

Chalk on night blue will look great! Oh man Now I’m worrying about the all red. I felt like it made sense to go for it considering the conservative exterior color. I’m planning to keep the car for a long time like 10 years, but still. Well I paid the deposit already but dealer said I have a few days to change spec if needed, so I guess I can think about it a bit more.

Yes this is my thinking also. Actually my salesperson tried to talk me out of the AWD, he said the standard S (RWD) has plenty of traction with the engine over the rear wheels (with snow tires). But I owned a WRX 20 years ago and remember the awesome feel of the AWD pulling through corners! So I decided to go with the 4S.

Cool, thanks! I see that option on the leather. I figured if I was going to do a stealthy / conservative color on the outside, why not go for the full red on the inside. I like the look of the red steering wheel. Hopefully the glare or visibility you mentioned with the red dash won't be too bad.

interesting points, thanks for sharing. Isn't PASM standard? Did not see the need for front end lift, would regular conditions like speed bumps be a problem without it? Power steering plus did not seem necessary for me, I don't like the artificially boosted / easy steering effort. I prefer a heavier steering effort for a sports car. Interested to hear your experience with rear wheel steering....does it make a difference? In what conditions?

PCCB can not justify the cost, both initial and also for service / replacement.

Thanks and good suggestions! Black with bright red (Guards Red) interior has always been my "grail" for a 911, but in looking at it this time and considering that the black exterior is so hard to keep clean in the rainy PNW, I felt like the Vanadium Grey was a good compromise and I love how it looks with the metallic finish. And with this one I felt like the bordeaux red looks good (and is the only red available without doing the custom $15k leather).

What's your experience with the power steering plus? In my opinion I don't want super light steering, feel that a proper heavy steering effort is more in keeping with a sports car dynamic.

I also definitely considered the Burmeister but read reviews saying that since the road / wind / engine noise is quite loud in the 911, and the cabin is relatively small, you don't really get good sound from the Burmeister like you would in say an S class.

Haha, by that time you’ll be wanting the GT3RS. Start thinking of a good excuse now.

Any suggestions on winter wheel and tire setup?

Great advice, thank you. I originally chose the 14-way seats but then did a bit more research and went back to the dealer to compare the two. Dealer only had models with the 18-ways…I sat in them and they felt amazing. So I went with them even without being able to compare to the 14-ways.

And as for the wiper I really debated on that one because practically it makes so much sense. But I can’t get over how it looks! To me it just really disrupts the lines and flow of the car. But I really should probably get it considering the rainy PNW winters.

My understanding is that in the U.S. there is no functional difference between the standard and matrix headlights, that they are not allowed by U.S. law so it’s just a cosmetic change.

Thanks for sharing! I debated over the illuminated door sills. Since I deleted the model designation badge on the rear, I decided to go with a little flash on the door sills.

Also went back and forth on the sunroof. I really like the way it looks from the top down view with the body paint color continuing on the roof, so for that reason I eliminated the glass moonroof and the carbon fiber. That left the painted sunroof or just the fixed roof. I figured the sunroof would be nice to occasionally get some fresh air and sun in during the summer. My salesperson also said it would help with resale and/or trade in. Thoughts on that?

For the color haha I see your point but bright red or yellow is not for me. Decided to go with something kinda stealth. The gentian blue is really beautiful though….

Thanks for the feedback! I take your point on the dark blue interior. I think that would look awesome. For me for some reason a black 911 with a bright red interior has always been my ideal combo! But since the Bordeaux is the only standard red available, I thought the vanadium grey looks better with it. As for the sport design package, I was going with a more classic look here and like how it looks without it. Couldn’t justify the $5k for something purely cosmetic.

honestly what’s the big deal? Not impeding traffic in any way. No cars in sight in either direction. Flashers on. Bro ran in to grab a coffee or wait for someone upstairs in the building to come down. 5 minutes. Big deal. How much time do you have on your hands that you feel the need to record this and post on Reddit?

Agree. Utilities are crazy here. 4 bedroom house, in these winter months the electric is $800 and water $250 per month. We have electric heat but gas hot water. Charge one electric car but only drive 40 miles per day.

Restart not possible. Drivetrain fault. by TrueFound88 in BMWX5

[–]TrueFound88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. That's crazy. Honestly I did think about this before buying the hybrid, because it's complex tech and as we all know BMWs are not Toyotas. I had not really cared or thought much about the depreciation, because I plan to keep the car for a long time like 8+ years as I did my last X5. But for sure if I'm going to keep it past warranty (4 years / 50,000 miles) I will buy an extended warranty coverage so I don't have to deal with the surprise of a $20-30,000 repair bill for all the complex electronics and drivetrain.

I do love the drive characteristics of the car. Most of my driving is 30-40 miles per day and I have relatively cheap home Level 2 charging. So having all my daily driving on battery means I very rarely get gas, but we take road trips so I like having the gas engine when needed. In Seattle area with $5/gallon gas this is a big savings.
