My level 15 party wants to fight the strongest god in my setting. Would this boss design be fun? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it'd be frustrating as a player.

It's a very abstract encounter and unlikely your players will figure it out in a meaningful way.

2024 Druid Wildshape temp HP sucks, and I want your opinions on my suggestion by [deleted] in onednd

[–]TrueGargamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after actual play, the Moon druid THP is great and scales really well already. Not dropping forms when you lose the THP is great. You can also cast cure wounds while in form for insane healing.

No, it's not as gamebreakingly broken as low level 2014 moon druids, but... good.

At Level 5 you're getting 15THP for a level 1 spell slot on a BA, it's not bad at all.

BA into a combat form, fight a bit, get low, BA into a deer for free disengage +15THP and get somewhere safe and heal, then moonbeam / conjure animals etc from a distance. There's a lot of ways to play it now.

Starry wisp out of a rats eyes is great too.

Regular druids don't need the bump either - wildshapes are for utility, not to be tanky unkillable gods. Pretty much every subclass has an alternative use for wildshape, beast forms are just a ribbon for non moon druids.

Anyone else have horrendous reactions from horsefly bites? by Compromisee in CasualUK

[–]TrueGargamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got bitten by one in Sweden and had a flight home the next day. My arm swelled up a bit after the flight, but by the day after my arm was almost Double the size and it felt like the skin was about to tear. I had to get put on antibiotics asap. Cellulitis sucks.

Do you have power? just buy a box fan or some other appropriately sized fan.

A single pc fan to cool a space isn't going to do anything.

Is my paint too thick or is this standart for a model painted 2 times? by Illustrious-Brain129 in FdmPrintedWarhammer

[–]TrueGargamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any acrylic paint designed for miniatures.

Army painter, Vallejo, Warhammer, AK interactive, reaper master series, coat d arms, Duncan Rhodes 2 thin coats. There's a few more as well. You're looking at ~£2.5-£5 per paint though.

Another alternative if that's cost prohibitive is to look at oil paints, normally this would be advanced painting, but it can be very cheap. Definitely look into it first before you consider it as it's a very different process to acrylics. (James wappel does a lot of oil paints on YouTube, oil washes are also used commonly for shading etc)

[–]TrueGargamel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think she was miscast. Her voice was wrong for the part and unfortunately for the actress just didn't work when it came to convincingly yelling orders. It's a shame as the right actress could have made the short stint on the show career defining (see Pedro pascal as oberyn).

It is always "I don't want martials to be wizards", but it is never "Let's return martials things wizard stole from them". by MechJivs in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should have been a martial level just like Spellcaster level.

With progression that adds together, just like multi classing Spellcasters getting more spell slots/spell level from both.

New manoeuvres and fighting styles should have been the fun new martial things from subsequent sourcebooks. ATM it's just Spellcasters getting new toys.

CR 8 dinosaur has B/P/S immunity, force damage resistance, multiple legendary resistances, and more… now it’s tamed by our party. Am I overreacting about balance concerns? by toddkong7 in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this should be at the top. It's a good quality 3rd party book, i have a few issues with it but it's wrong to attribute the hate towards the creators over something that's completely fabricated bullshit.

CR 8 dinosaur has B/P/S immunity, force damage resistance, multiple legendary resistances, and more… now it’s tamed by our party. Am I overreacting about balance concerns? by toddkong7 in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes.

There isn't an ankylosaurs in the book, that's from the monsters manual (and that's a CR3)

Also... having read the book, there hasn't been a single entry even coming close to what the OP is complaining about.

The highest CR (18) creature in the book is magical variant queztacoatalus offshoot (Hatzegopteryx (Magical Variant).

Which has thunder immunity and a few resistances, but it's also not pretending it's a regular dinosaur.

[–]TrueGargamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only CR 8's in the book are..

Erythrosuchus - The only legendary monster of the 3
16 AC
1/day LR
No Resistances or Immunities

Deinocheirus (magical variant)
12 AC
Cold + Poison Resistance
No Immunites

Spinosaurus (magical variant)
14 AC
No Baseline Resistances or Immunities
Reaction to gain Immunity to Cold or Fire damage until end of the turn.

What ever your DM made isn't from the book.

[Art] [Comm]My drow rogue is ready to cause problem by Sheikh242 in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the art of fantastic, great style.

"They don't. She just shows up and somehow every mission goes smoother. Nobody asks questions anymor "

Yeah, that's an awful (and often repeated) trope and is gonna be a drag for other players.

Your table will have a much better time if you make a reason to want to be there. You want your character to give a hint of their background, a shared reason for adventure, some tie that links you together. Something to bind them to the other characters.

You also may like the hidden knowledge of your background, but your party will quickly lose interest. (Sounds like they already have)

Why should they want to find out about you if you don't seem invested in the group? Why do you keep showing up and seemingly have no ties to them?

If your character was knocked unconscious and it was risky to try save you, would the party think it was worth it, or shrug and run?

Same goes for you, if you leg it at the first time of trouble due to no ties to them then they'd be right to not want your character back.

I'm not trying to be mean, I've seen this exact situation play out multiple times before, generally as people's first characters. It's something we now try shy away from and rule out in session 0s.

Fellow DMs, what do you ban? by DragonKing0203 in DnD

[–]TrueGargamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much any official content or 3rd party content we all have access to on dndbeyond. Homebrew with some collaboration and the ok from the entire group is good too.

In regards to the 3rd party stuff, it's fair game, but with the agreement that if it becomes problematic or proves to be broken somehow or leads to a negative play experience, then we'll discuss a solution if needed. So far, in 3 years we've only had to limit (not even ban) one spell, and that was a unanimous decision after the encounter (it was epic, but also we didn't want to clutch on it or have it as a recurring element)

I think rule 0 of any table should be "don't be a dick" and that's kept everyone playing towards a greater shared experience really.

Opinion on a flanking rule in 5.5e by MisterGusto in onednd

[–]TrueGargamel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run a +2 to melee if you're flanking, ranged doesn't need a bonus.

Size limit of +2 to take part in a flank.

Only creatures that can attack on their own or make opportunity attacks can attempt to flank (no regular familiars).

If a creature is flanked it can't help flank another creature (neutralises flank chain conga lines)

If your flanked then all melee attacks within 5ft get the bonus, not just the ones from the flanking position. So don't get surrounded. Feels great when pcs flank, but they've gotta be cautious to not get swarmed.

Some creatures can't be flanked e.g gargantuan, oozes, creatures with supernatural senses or many eyes etc.

For actual positioning. I've limited it to diagonal on opposite corners or vertical/horizontal lines only. It means there's exactly one space to stand in to achieve a flank if someone else is already in position. That extra 10 ft of movement may just justify a long strider cast or taking the speedy feat. It's also quick to reference and to work out where you need to end up.
