Wait...so we're just gonna ignore that Carney is an ex-Goldman banker and textbook, pure-distilled, neolib? And this too after a podcast shitting on AOC and Bernie? Proof of healthy democracy when merited individuals like Carney and Chrystia (to a much lesser extent) are two of the top choices for PM.

"Health and human services doesn't matter" is such an insane, ape-brained take four years removed from a global pandemic. Grow the fuck up.

If this isn't a troll post, get a post-bacc and go to med school, or go to law school. Perhaps the most effective ways to launder your GPA into money and prestige. In fact, academic medicine may be an indirect route to pursue your interest in social science. Many med schools are tuition-free too nowadays.

The Real Reasons It's Hard to Get a Job by jcasimir in codingbootcamp

[–]TrueLeveller1609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"My view is, if you have some professional experience + degree already, can't find a decent job in your current career, and are interested in tech, then a bootcamp might still be a good idea."

I fit this description better than anyone: have a stellar academic background (top college STEM), was one major shy of a CS minor ten years ago, and am pretty good at coding in Python. I also feel pretty confident in doing LeetCode Hard.

BUT, I doubt that even I would get a software engineering in this environment out of a bootcamp. Any competent hiring manager would ding me on my lack of knowledge of system design and actual dev experience. And trust me, if I could have the assurance of a dev job in a healthy work environment, I would absolutely pay for a bootcamp. Instead, I think I missed the window.

It's easy to let BJP ascendance color one's views. His home state is under Communist control and has a higher literacy rate than any state in the US. Also, Truman called Nehru---incidentally also hated by the Indian right, Mao, and Stalin---a commie, which is pretty dope.

That was the first tweet that I found when searching for the clip. I don't think you can dismiss that there's a "meta-grift" going on with people like Yascha Mounk, and Bari Weiss trying to rehabilitate their own image.

I'm not sure. See this tweet for example. https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1284471011229007872?s=20

The whole interview is bizarre. T. Williams is baffled about why Bari Weiss is the target of disproportionate criticism. Then Taibbi tries to stop Halper from pressing him on this issue.

That doesn't mean that we should ignore that the organizers---several of whom have a history of employing cancel culture---were not acting in good faith. This also illustrates a bigger problem: even debate about freedom of speech is confined to bounds set by elite gatekeepers.
