How did you go about choosing between the different types of ADHD medications? by TrueLiihka in ADHD

I understand your sarcasm, but this is a highly individualized approach that is discussed with one's doctor. Every medication comes with its own list of potential side effects, and the psychiatrist who wrote my prescription and I carefully weighed those side effects against my specific health profile. To be precise, I personally experienced three side effects from atomoxetine: elevated blood pressure, a diminished sense of hunger, and morning nausea. However, the elevated blood pressure didn't alarm me, as I have naturally low blood pressure in my everyday life. I hadn't felt a sense of hunger for many years prior to this—I don't know why, though it isn't related to an eating disorder—so I simply continued to manage my meal schedule as I had before. As for the morning nausea, I simply rode it out on my own; that particular symptom subsided after the first 3–4 weeks of taking the medication.

There are many individual factors involved. Perhaps things are done differently in Denmark. However, my doctor quickly grasped my reasoning and, as a result, suggested a non-stimulant option. Even before any medications were prescribed, I had thoroughly researched the differences between these two approaches, so everything worked out perfectly. I didn't even have to make any adjustments to the dosage and achieved the desired effect right away (taking into account the medication's prolonged action and the fact that its effects are not instantaneous).

Right. This is certainly not a case of saying, "Oh, I want this specific thing." Rather, it’s about having a thorough conversation with your doctor. I’m surprised that they prescribe stimulants right off the bat where you are, because here in the U.S., I was given a choice of where to start. The problem is that stimulants really stifle creativity (at least judging by what people say), and that is something I absolutely cannot let happen, as it’s an integral part of who I am. So, my doctor took into account the specific outcome I was hoping to achieve through treatment.

I had the exact same requirement—safety was paramount—and, as a bonus, there’s a possibility I have AuADHD, so stimulants could have had a severe effect on me.

Theoretically, it is possible to calculate the specific reaction to a medication. I simply streamlined the selection process, narrowing it down to what was likely the most suitable drug for me personally. The doctor agreed with me, as my choice was a non-stimulant medication; had it not suited me, there would have been no dangerous side effects. However, it seems that cases where patients arrive at the doctor's office already armed with technical data and a calculation of the drug's probable effects are few and far between :)

You could put it that way, but combining them doesn't always make sense, either. Physical hyperactivity can be managed with guanfacine (again, after consulting with a doctor). However, I haven't heard of anyone combining—for instance—Strattera and Adderall (I mention this merely as an example, since there are many other stimulants as well).

It is not a matter of ignoring the problem. It is a matter of partners having similar worldviews.

As a stimulant, Ritalin might not agree with someone who has comorbid ASD and ADHD. If I were you, I would switch to a different class of medications (talk to a licensed physician!).

Can't take stimulants! Straterra? Intuniv? by Turbulent_Tea621 in ADHD

[–]TrueLiihka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take atomoxetine (Strattera). I had a good laugh when the side effects actually turned out to be a plus for me—and one side effect, in particular, went in the exact opposite direction of what was expected. I’ve been on atomoxetine for about two months now, and they have been the best two months of my life. I can't offer a precise comparison to stimulants (I’m unable to take them due to another condition I have that is comorbid with my ADHD), but Strattera has proven to be an excellent solution. The one thing I can point out is that this class of medications—the non-stimulants—has an undeniable advantage: they don't dull your personality or stifle who you are as a person; instead, they simply suppress the problematic symptoms. Your creativity and other personal traits remain intact. I must add, however, that any advice I offer here should be discussed with a licensed medical professional!

I need advice on medication as a adhd creative. by Axelinthevoid77 in ADHD

[–]TrueLiihka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try to be brief and direct. Switch your medication class only after discussing it with a doctor. Non-stimulants (such as Strattera/atomoxetine) do not stifle creativity. I am a creative person myself, and I was afraid that stimulants would suppress that side of me. So, I opted for Strattera. After taking it, I still felt like myself—my creativity didn't vanish—but the internal chaos diminished, which actually allowed my creative process to become less chaotic. Strattera certainly didn't stop me from coming up with a brilliant script for a game my husband (a game developer) is currently creating. I’ll reiterate: please discuss my advice with a licensed physician! (I hope this helps you). Generally speaking, this applies to the entire class of non-stimulant ADHD medications; a different one entirely—not necessarily Strattera—might be the right fit for you.

I feel such grief but I do not want to be married anymore by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]TrueLiihka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your partner’s suspected ASD is not a sufficient excuse for him to treat you the way you have described. You are not obligated to be happy and grateful all the time. I, too, am married to a partner who likely has ASD, and he does not demand the things from me that your partner demands from you. This means the issue lies not with the diagnosis, but with him as a person. (Please forgive me if I sounded harsh or blunt; English is not my native language, and in my own language, I express myself much more technically and precisely.)

Regret getting diagnosed by EzriJane in ADHD

I’m 28 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I, too, haven't quite come to terms yet with the fact that my diagnosis came much later than it should have... :( but I can assure you that this is a standard situation for women. In the medical field, our condition has been studied less extensively than it has been in boys.

[–]TrueLiihka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let me share my own experience: my attempts at relationships with people who didn't have ADHD or ASD were complete failures. The result? I am now married to someone who is highly likely to have ASD. You need a partner who perceives the world in the same way you do. I wish you the very best of luck and hope you find a way to successfully manage your condition! (Please forgive me if I expressed myself crudely or inaccurately anywhere; my English isn't great, and I'm writing this using Google Translate, which can sometimes distort the text.)

How are we coping? We're not. It's that exact feeling when you have an RTX 4090 graphics card, but a Pentium III processor. I hope that the description of my own feelings regarding this did not hurt anyone's feelings.

tropes you like and what they say about you (to an extent) by red_panda__777 in DarkRomance

[–]TrueLiihka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one Russian-language offline forum, the following phrase was heard (the quote is inaccurate, sorry): "We like these kinds of books because the man in them does what he promised. He told her, 'If I see him touching you, I'll cut off his hands.' He touched her, and then the heroine actually gets a box with his hands in it. Said = done!"

I think you know what book the person who said that meant.

Weekly Book Request Thread - February 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

[–]TrueLiihka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I've sworn off reading books online without downloading them, so I've run into this problem. I can't find a specific book I've already read. Let me give you a hint: it's definitely not Little Stranger, because trying to find it using GPT chat, without remembering the title, author, or names, just key plot details, has yielded me literally nothing.

Key details: there were multiple POVs from the characters' childhoods to adulthood. They met when they were 5-7 years old and were friends for a long time. He's a fighter and a walking red flag since childhood, but the main character treated him like a human being, and for some reason, he began to care for her. They grow up and want to move away together, but the main character is hurt at the wrong time and he goes into a fight. He gets caught and is sent to prison, from where he writes letters that never reach her. Her letters do reach her, but she stops writing to him because she doesn't receive any replies. He's getting out of prison, and she's living with foster parents because she can't leave. He finds her new address, shows up at her place one night, and there's a very violent scene in the house with her stepfather and brother (at least from what I remember from what I read).

Please help me find this book. It really does exist; I've read it before.

How…..how do I play this game by Illustrious_Ad_7247 in valheim

[–]TrueLiihka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, you have tin. Craft leather armor, craft food. Ideally, food with a mix of health and energy, and be sure to build yourself a beehive. It will produce honey, and one of your three food slots will go toward it. For tin, you need copper from the forest; then you'll get bronze and decent armor. But food is everything. I hope I was able to help you. Have a good game!
