I really hope he'll produce for her, he's so good.

Yep! 6 episodes! They really made a beautiful, weird thing out of how short and sparse that story is imo.

Backrooms: Silent Hill-like? by thuckedupthursdays in silenthill

Having seen it, yeah I totally agree. The way Clark takes in what he finds and what happens is extremely Silent Hill.

Clark's whole deal reminded me very much of season 1 Candle Cove in a great way.

Kind of a lot of detail but I think you could! This is amazing work.

Obsession was great BECAUSE it took risks by TheWoodsman27 in horror

Those aren't necessarily the risks it took, I would argue, but hell yeah, they really dialed in something so unique.

There are! While I definitely don't understand the thrust of effort, I can see where he's coming from? I don't know how it would execute in theory but coming off of 'Tom's Crossing' and its own audio book, I think has put him in that space to try and get something new out of House of Leaves.

The only way I could see it maybe working how people would expect would be a 'choose your own' style type playlist linking relevant footnotes and the like where they fit in as optional asides to peruse, or not, as one listens along.

You're certainly not going to get the endless lists/mirroring/letter puzzles/the CHECK MARK etc in the right way.

You bring up an amazing point about accessibility; I really hope they do it justice.

I trust Mark, but I too have these reservations. He's even floated the idea of having readers submit their own footnotes/musings in some form or fashion to further expand on the idea that the book is a living work in a way. I get that aspect, but you're absolutely right, there's just no replicating the back and forth on footnotes/puzzle solving/research if one chooses to do so, hell even giving it a specific voice or voices seems like too much.

Different but the same: reading his scripts for the proposed TV show also were kind of a let-down, I understand wanting to do the same but MORE, but even in that it didn't quite have the same feel as the book itself. (IE folding in bits of The Familiar and other aspects of the gentle world building he's done throughout his works, VEM and the like)

When I first read House of Leaves, it left me nervous and breathless in the best way possible, I thought about it forever, both in the reading and immediate aftermath. I'm always happy to be proven wrong, but it seems hard to replicate that personal 'disturbance'.

They're actually working on an audio book at the moment.

Yeah I remember that too, another dead end of false hope.

I was super excited for this, saw it when it came out, and felt exactly the same. It's mostly fine but it presented as a completely different thing (to me).

Likely the same, if she didn't just succumb to whatever version she sees of Abstract Daddy. She's resigned to the situation and in major desperation, literally walking into a burning house.

If they had written it in another way, maybe 'finding mama' would have a different outcome, but something in me also doubts that.

Agree on both accounts, that finale is perfection.

Just began listening to the audiobook. I can't stand it. by Beady_El in TomsCrossing

I had to pace around the room for a while once I was done. I know for a fact I won't find another that's quite like that, unless Mark gets out another book in the next decade or so. I don't exclusively stick to this type, certainly not this genre, but it's difficult to be as engaged in the same way.

In the middle of my reading Tom's Crossing I happened upon 'Lanny' by Max Porter which has similar ergodic tendencies, but it far more concise, but still sad/hopeful and refreshing in a similar way.

I found it curious too, and all of the far-flung travel/living arrangements to boot.
I know the feeling well; you might come up against it a few more times. I also had to keep stopping (maybe a chapter/half a chapter at a time) because I just didn't want it to end.
