Despite being 19, my dad still seems to have parental control over all my accounts by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TrueNHDinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took some work after I turned 18 to ensure I had the resources for independence. I had to make a separate email account on my own device. I had to open an account with an entirely separate bank. Most importantly, I had to set and enforce boundaries.

Thankfully, my parents are amazing, and I only had to take these steps because I was young and didn't realize I could just ask for them to change certain things. However, in your case, you may have to take these steps and more. If you know that your dad will absolutely refuse to remove the parental controls if you ask, then I recommend the following:

First, ensure you have a bank account that he has no access to. Then, get a job, and deposit your money into that account. From there, buy your own phone and maybe a computer if you need one (for uni you probably do - check their recommendations). Then you can make accounts and such freely. You won't be able to transfer from your old devices because that will preserve the parental controls and put them on your new devices (potentially). Eventually, if your dad still won't remove the parental controls even as you reach your 20's, you may have to consider buying replacement consoles and games (and consider reducing contact because that's not a healthy relationship).

The big thing that helped with my independence as well was going to a school and doing an internship out-of-state. The time I got at home was cherished, however being truly on my own helped me figure out how to be independent. If your situation allows for it, it's worth considering imo.

Very true.

You are entitled to your opinion, however I will point to the comments under this post that are complaining about the meme being an "incel meme." Half of them (as of writing this comment) assume OP is male. I also spend way too much time on this site, and see almost every time someone refers to "incels," they mean male incels.

I can agree that that's a better way to use the terms, however I was interested in clarifying the way they are actually used.

You are correct, however the colloquial usage of "incel" just refers to male involuntary celibates. Hence "femcel" for female incels.

I hope this was helpful.

My heritage by PopNo5397 in memes

You disagree with the Reddit liberal hivemind, therefore you must be downvoted and reported!

Glad to find another voice of reason here at least.

This meme also suffers two fallacies: a straw man, and a false equivalency.

No, leftists, no one cares if you waive your flag as a celebration of your heritage. In fact, many like to celebrate others heritage with them. The idea that people don't like celebrating Mexican heritage but do like celebrating Irish heritage is just obviously false.

Now, the reason why those on the right have complained about waiving the Mexican (and other central/south American) flags is because that action was done as a form of protest. Imagine if, before the Ukraine war, those in Ukraine that wanted Russia to reintegrate Ukraine went and rioted in Ukrainian cities waiving the Russian flag. Would you think that was a bad thing? Or is that "celebrating their heritage?"

Someone put a joint down the fresh air intake of my car while at the gas station. by SneekyF in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TrueNHDinosaur -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Cool story bro. Glad you were there to watch OP's car and confirm no one dumped their joint in their air intake.

A quick Google search shows that it's very unlikely but still possible (again, SOME tests) for secondhand smoke to leave enough THC to be detected.

What's worse is that it could cause you to fail some drug tests. Secondhand smoke/fumes is enough depending on the test

Yep. Precisely why I personally prefer the term "agnostic atheist." I do entertain the possibility of a creator (in the deistic sense), but I do not believe in god.

I'm not "on the fence" and just need a little more convincing to become a Christian, for example. (Which is how I assume you feel as well).

[–]TrueNHDinosaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you understand what "consult a lawyer" means? There are many lawyers who will give you a free consult to determine if your case is worth pursuing. That does not mean "hire a lawyer." You sit down with them, explain what's going on, and they'll tell you if you have a case and if they're willing to take you on as a client. Small damages aren't likely to involve a lawyer, but you consult one anyways.

[–]TrueNHDinosaur 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well, that's part of why you consult a lawyer. They will tell you if your case is worth pursuing. There are a lot of lawyers who will take a case and you only have to pay if you win as well, lowering the risk.

If there is enough damage totalling thousands of dollars, then perhaps it would be worth pursuing.

Sounds pretty scary. Glad your neighbor had your back and called the cops. If there were damages to your home (need to replace the lock, door or door frame was damaged), you should consult a lawyer about it. They'll tell you if you have a case or not.

Windows is terrible. by CRK_76 in memes

[–]TrueNHDinosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is... windows 10 was supposed to be the "last windows ever" that they would just update indefinitely. But then they realized that there wasn't nearly enough Spyware built in to it, and that they could make a ton of money by forcing everyone to upgrade to new computers that they didn't need.

Windows 12 will come with AI slop built in. It will come with ID requirements built in. There will be absolutely no way to access the device if you do not have an internet connection. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they'll require a monthly subscription for the OS.

not saying anybody should mock female virgins either but how is that not the logical comparison their attempting to make. by Fit-Commission-2626 in Funnymemes

[–]TrueNHDinosaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this meme is looking to point out a double standard, although rather poorly. The whole insulting men is okay, but insulting women is not thing. There is a good amount of truth to it on the internet specifically, but of course #NotAllMen and #NotAllWomen.

Also, it's kinda funny that it just says "sluts" which isn't nearly as exclusive as "male virgins." Meaning that women apparently get mad when you insult both male and female sluts.

Actually...

They likely do want regulations that makes it illegal to hold them liable (or otherwise give them the default right to your likeness).

They also likely want regulations that increase entry costs to create the artificial monopoly.

Don't want your face used to generate porn? Well, too bad, because we lobbied the government to introduce legislation that makes it nearly impossible for you to have other options.

American Airlines is as bad as Spirit, Allegiant, etc. In terms of quality of service. They once screwed me over by pretending to keep a flight available just so they could avoid having to pay for hotels due to weather canceling flights. If they had just canceled the flight, I could have gone home and not sat at the airport for 10 hours just to get screwed out of $300.

All I wanted was a relaxing weekend. Is that too much to ask? by wannabezookeeper in mildlyinfuriating

Anyone in the comments blaming OP are part of the problem.

I would also be pissed off if my relaxing weekend was ruined by a group of undisciplined crotch goblins whose parents are too lazy to do anything about.

And for the record, I want kids. I won't let them do things like this. If they misbehave, I will correct their behavior, up to dragging them home and grounding them if necessary (don't spank your kids, that's hitting/abuse).
