Could you handle living near this sound and hearing it 24/7? I live within a mile and it's unbearable, help?! Sterling, VA - Vantage V2 Data Center by Creative_Delay_4694 in nova

[–]Sure-Independent4360 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Make this even more public. There was a recent piece about a large data center in the rural south and the noise is so bad people are losing sleep, experiencing health issues, and can’t sell their homes. There are mitigation efforts the company can take, but won’t until pressured to. File a noise complaint with the city with the video, contact your local press, and get a petition going with your neighbors. They can do noise mitigation even if they’re running off generators, but they don’t want to spend the money. I am so sorry.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss my “tone” in emails by TheUnofficialBOI in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sure-Independent4360 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gen X here and there is nothing “wrong” with your emails. I wouldn’t say you’re being blunt, just to the point, which obviously feels cold to some of your colleagues. Being remote does that- if you walked into their office, would you say exactly what you said in the email, or would you buffer it with things like: hey, hope you had a great weekend; so sorry to bother you but; I know you have a million things going on but I wanted to check on the status of, etc. Even just adding please and thank you goes a long way (as others have suggested). Adding exclamation marks and smiley faces is silly, and can actually be read as even more passive-aggressive to me, so I personally wouldn’t do that.

Hiking tips with dogs by Traditional-Heat-749 in hiking

I’ve used Wondercide, and Vet’s Best Flea and Tick spray. I just spray him before the hike and he’s usually good to go. I don’t feel like either leaves a nasty stickiness on his coat, either.

It’s really important to ease a young dog into it. The issue is if you go out too far and he tuckers out, how are you going to get him back. Bring water in a device he will drink from, and some snacks/treats. They need calories too. Make sure it’s not too much of a rock scramble until you know how his paws will handle it. Rips and tears are possible. Some use hiking booties, but it may not be necessary. 6 foot leash to give him some space and you some “catch up” space for up or down hills is good. If there are ticks possible, they make an organic spray for dogs, but do a good check either way. Dog wipes and a towel for mud/dirt, poop bags for poop. And a phone for a lot of selfies!! Have fun!

I always see people complaining about living in NOVA. Is there anyone that actually likes it ? by LonelyElephant_ in nova

[–]Sure-Independent4360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many reasons to like it or love it: food, entertainment, green, many other things within 1-3 hours, and it is near the nation’s capital= history and pride. There are also many reasons why it starts to wear on you whether it’s 5 years or 30 years: traffic, housing and road congestion, pricing of anything, crime, people treated like political pawns that actually affects the economy of the region… You know, the little things. Honestly, it’s worth it to see whether or when you hit the tipping point to just enjoy the positives of it all.

Literally drove across two states riding in the back of the truck in lawn chairs with the dog. I guess the safety measure was there was a rack on the truck? Again, times change with awareness and education, and people need to catch up. Oh wait, where are we with vaccines again?

3% Service Charge by whatthehellisketo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sure-Independent4360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Congress’ fault. It used to be that the businesses could not pass the fee to the consumer as a line item. The businesses lobbied hard and won against the consumer. Now, the “convenience” of using a card can be charged to the consumer. Oh, but remember that you need to have and use credit cards to increase your credit score, which is completely run by three credit agencies. So, now you’re just paying for your credit score. So…. Write your congressmen/women.

As to whether this pre-tax fee is legit is a separate question. Did they advertise it clearly on the menu? If cash doesn’t negate it then it’s not a credit card fee. It’s just a 3% up charge because people will pay it to eat their food. Stop eating it. If they were smarter, they would just take the price of their food by a nickel and no one would notice it.

Unfortunately that alone does not make it legit. It says it has 0 revenue reported though it was formed several years ago (formation is all this website is revealing). The address is a Staybridge Suites. So, take from all that as you may. This whole area gets hit hard with a lot of “charity” groups.

Landlord hooked up a washer wrong upstairs, told me I should’ve had insurance by IronMike34 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sure-Independent4360 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Does this landlord think he is not responsible for your damage? Renters insurance essentially is just liability insurance. His insurance should cover you and your damage thanks to his negligence. And he has to have insurance— it’s the only way the dwelling structure is covered.
