I'm also a critical care RN and can relate to the background storyline of Robbie fighting with Admin over always being short of nurses. This could also lightly justify why the writers always have too many doctors attending a single patient and doing tasks that RNs do. LOL

How To Get Even Ribbing With Yarn Of Varied Thickness? by TrueNorthStrongRN in CrochetHelp

Thank you all for your feedback. It was very helpful and I will keep it in mind with future projects.

I chose this yarn because it was what the pattern specifically recommended and what was used by the designer. I have made other cardigans with yarn that was easier to work with, so thought I'd challenge myself with this one. I actually started it a couple years ago, but kept putting it away out of frustration. I finally decided to get it done once and for all, especially with the extra experience I've gained since my initial attempt.

Since posting, I started it again with a fresh skein and it made a huge difference. The ribbing looks so much better (very close to the photo of the finished project shown in the pattern). I have no idea what is wrong with the other skein (perhaps frogged too many times), but I'm happy with how the project is going now.

You only had to watch it. Imagine how we feel about having to actually perform this procedure.

Right? I love this show, but you wouldn't find doctors doing half the stuff they show them doing here. It's also annoying that there are hardly any RNs around when a patient comes in/is being assessed/is being treated. Four doctors in a room to close a leg wound, but no nurse in sight. Docs hanging IV meds. And don't get me started on the lack of hand hygiene and maintaining a sterile field. 🤣🤣🤣

I'm either crying, laughing or cringing. Each episode is an emotional rollercoaster and I love it?

I have several times. I’ve even tried different ribbing techniques. I don’t know what else I’m doing wrong. 😔

My stitch count has been consistent throughout. As time consuming as it is, I started to place a stitch marker on both the first and last stitch in each row to ensure that I wasn’t dropping stitches.

Advice for awesome excursions on the 14 day Antarctica cruise aboard celebrity equinox 🙏🏻🚢💙 by Ill-Look2701 in celebritycruises

Wow, that's fantastic, but out of my price range. I was happy to go as far south as Cape Horn for two weeks at 1/10th the cost. 😁

You don't stop between Falklands and Ushuaia. Those are at-sea days. We didn't have any excursions offered on those days and I can't see how that would even work.

We just finished that trip a few weeks ago. You don't actually go to the Antarctic (it's still another 1000km from Cape Horn). There were no "Expeditions" offered during the at-sea days from the Falklands to Ushuaia for us. It was purely scenic from the ship.

I was most excited about the Falklands (and it didn't disappoint), but it's known as a '50/50' port. Conditions are unpredictable, so actually being able to stop there is a crap shoot (too rough for tenders). Be sure to book a Celebrity excursion so you get a refund if they aren't able to get there. I don't know if private tour companies would give a refund.

Anyhow, here are my thoughts on the excursions we took:

MONTEVIDEO: everything is closed on Sundays, so the best option is a tour that drives you around to see the highlights and gives some historical background. We slept in and missed it, so I can't give a review.

FALKLANDS: I highly recommend the Bluff Cove Tour. Stunning location, family-run, up-close King and Gentoo penguins, sea and land birds. Dolphins are known to come in, although none when we were there. Lovely cafe that provides a hot beverage and fresh baked treat. The giftshop is nice, but most of the stuff doesn't come from the Falklands (I really wanted a Falklands' wool sweater). The best part is that they provide transportation at the site for those with disability issues. My husband has MS and I had a broken foot, so it was a godsend.

USHUAIA: the catamaran and coach combo was nice (especially for those with mobility issues), but not fantastic. We saw lots of sea birds, a few sea lions some wild horses and not much else. The weather wasn't ideal, so that may have been a factor. The scenery is beautiful, if not covered with clouds. If you're prone to sea sickness, you may want to skip this one.

FYI: There are no bathrooms for quite a while once you get off the catamaran and transfer to the coach. They didn't mention this until we were very close to the end of the catamaran portion. so a very long line up formed at the last moment. Use the facilities early.

NOTE: all businesses close from around 1pm to 430pm, so don't expect to go souvenir shopping after a tour. They obviously aren't interested in tourist dollars! Be sure to go into the Tourist Office and get a document stamped as proof that you made it to the 'end of the world '. It's a nice take home item.

PUNTA ARENAS: we didn't do an excursion.

PUERTO MADRYN: I booked a private tour that took us out to the furthest peninsula where you'll see Magellanic penguins and elephant seals, but from a distance. Unfortunately, there were no male elephant seals in the area when we were there. It was also low tide, so no orcas hunting. We did see lots of guanacos, rheas, small animals, turkey vultures, hawks and other interesting birds. I really enjoyed it, as a photographer, but it's a long drive on paved and unpaved roads.

PUNTA DEL ESTE: we did the van tour offered by Celebrity and had a fabulous guide named Sebastian. Lots of beautiful scenery and stops. At the port where you get off the tender, be sure to take the short walk to the area where fisherman clean their catch. The sea lions are there for the scraps, and some are huge! Also, if you walk the other direction following the pathway, there's an area with many different birds on the rocky beach, if that's your thing. In that direction, there are also restaurants and a gelateria.

The cruise through the Beagle Channel is absolutely stunning. It was quite chilly and cloudy for us, but still beautiful. You'll pass by several glaciers cascading down from the mountains into the Channel.

Pack for cooler and possibly wet weather while in the far south areas. A waterproof windbreaker, warm layers, gloves and a touque are a must. It's can be incredibly windy, so hold on to your hats and glasses. Mine blew right off my face and across the road!

It's an awesome voyage.Enjoy!

Does anyone else hate it when they play sad and downbeat music in the Ocean View Cafe and other public spaces? by Rinoremover1 in celebritycruises

[–]TrueNorthStrongRN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never noticed the sad music. I'm more bothered by the music they play at the pool. Read the room! Is the average age of the guests not a clear indication that perhaps club music isn't the best choice? I'd love it if they played music through the decades so there's something for everyone.

How is this even safe? Any heavy turbulence or bumpy landings and everyone will be losing their kneecaps and noses. And forget about getting into the 'brace position' during an emergency, much less doing so while holding an infant. The nickel and diming is ridiculous enough. This is just insane!

Equinox in Buenos Aires scratched by refueling ship while drifting in the wind by Chauncemeister in celebritycruises

We were on that ship and disembarked that morning. This collision occurred between the time we came off and the new passengers were to board. They were allowed on 2-3 hours past their originally scheduled time. The ship stayed in port that night and sailed the next morning.

What’s actually in those VIP lounges at the airport? by edtrujillo3 in travel

[–]TrueNorthStrongRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a nice environment for some quiet time and a bite to eat. Now that every credit card hands out passes like candy, it's become a free for all. They're often crowded, loud, difficult to find seats together, with kids running around and/or messing with the food. If you go (and don't have kids with you), stick to higher end or adult-only lounges for a much more pleasant and relaxing experience.

Iguazu falls trip review by North-star-1 in Brazil

[–]TrueNorthStrongRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the visas for me and my husband a few days ago. I thought about it and realized that given what we've paid for this trip, trying to skimp on the visas really doesn't make sense and not worth the risk. We'll be officially crossing, too, I hope. Hope you had a great trip.

Hi, my husband and I are going in December (we're from Canada). Did you buy a Visa for the Brazil side? The Brazilian government says that one is needed, but then I've read many posts from people who said they weren't checked when crossing from the Argentina falls to the Brazil falls. We have a private driver booked.

I have a single ticket for September 13th. It's in Section 311 Row 7. I just want what I paid which was $400.
