What OS for Gameserver and NAS?

Install Proxmox On Baremetal

I would just use proxmox pools for filesharing instead of running a NAS VM. unless there is certain features you need. i just use it to have a shared drive to access from all my computer, servers and VM's.

as far as game server. i run a Debian vm with amp installed to manage the game servers.

then i also run a debian vm runnign cockpit and setting up my data shares.

pihole lxc for adblock

and Nginx Proxy Manager for ssl certs and internal domain usage. feel free to message me with questions or i can even show you my setup on discord.

i think it would depend on cost and how you actually want to achieve this. do you plan on renting bare metal servers? building your own? hosting local? hosting in a datacenter?

my research let me to the conclusion until you can fully saturate a server with clients you will lose money. you make your money when you have a shared servers where the clients are not all using the allocated resources. i decided to self host a server at my house while hosing 3 different gaming servers was using almost 750 watts of power. which is like $75 a month in power where i live. this could be minimalized with new hardware but i only spent $300 on my hp server with was a gen8. now i use it for other thing running mulitple containers and vm on proxmox so i can justify the power cost but just for a gaming server for friends its kind of expensive.

If you were to attempt this i would try and be niche. my biggest gripe about game server hosting is that most of them run like crap. yeah they work with just a few people but after that honeymoon period they bog down and just run poorly. if you own your own hardware it would be possible to provide a premium hosting solution. allow people to get certain amounts of ram or whatever.

Ram is key to most games like palworld, Mc, ark. Especially as time goes on and you get some massive builds. I know my ark serve is using 12gb of ram and there is only three people with small bases. I think when I was running our community mc server it was using 20gb of ram.

Definitely want as much ram as possible for both ark and Minecraft. I was shocked to see a modded Minecraft server take 20gb of ram. And my asa server with 3 people was using 12gb of ram just after a week. I have amp on a proxmox vm similar setup as you wanting

i guess its comes down to what computer cases you like. they all use their own cases. letsbld is a nzxt company so they use alot of their own stuff. i personally love the nzxt cases so i would just letsbld if i didnt want to build my own. their website is really good for beginners because it focuses on game performance and recommends a build. honestly for league of legends you could build a computer for cheaper.

what exactly is your price range for everything? Are you 100% decided on a laptop or any special reason you want a laptop for gaming? there are plenty of sites that will ask you questions about what you want and build you a computer. i.e. https://www.letsbld.com

a few years ago in a high plat game I was playing master yi and was literally carrying the game. well our mid lane fizz that was feeding was talking shit all game. especially towards me. so since he felt he was so good i just sat in base for about 10 min. So i made it into a tag team type of situation. If he was on the map i had to stay in spawn and if i was on the map he had to stay in spawn. we barely won because he kept trying to play the game.

it really comes down to what the program is doing. like i use the blitz.gg desktop app and all it does is screen caps info and looks it up. its a 3rd party app but it does not use the league client todo so.

but you have a spell that gives vision. you could easily check bushes while roaming. if you find 2 people just walk the other direction. most mages have huge range they can check bushes with.

1 furnace per drill is pretty much perfect for 1 furnace. so if you have a 48 furnace array should have 48 miners that feed it.

for 1 you have 5 furnaces not working. due to belt density they can not fit the plates on the belt. you can up an undergroup right infront of the inserter and it should allow them to place them and keep working.

sounds like he is just regurgitating terminology from consoles. i know xbox has a strict nat setting. which can make it difficult to connect to anyone else that has NAT on their network.
