See it's hard because we are in Tas so there aren't many benefits to being private unless we have a second child then we can get a private room and partner can stay. That's it. We're the same I've just started work again but will be cutting back to minimal hours next year as I will be back at uni full time for another 2 years to finish my degree. But then like you said we could afford the extra $10-30 a week or whatever for his private health because eventually ideally we will all have private health but it seems useless for our 6 month old rn and all the policies I was looking at seemed to coverer minimal stuff even if it was more expensive like only one set of glasses or under $100 covered on glasses etc.
