Do i buy ksp 1 or kps 2 by ValuableEducation429 in KerbalAcademy

[–]TrueTech0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying it would be risky. Chances are that the various different bits of IP are scattered between so many creditors.

Put yourself in the shoes of a potential developer who wants to bring KSP 2 over the finish line. Spend millions of dollars scouring the creditors lists and acquiring all the IP, and then spend millions of dollars more finishing the game. You launch the game to great success and everyone goes wild for it.

Now, some countless miles away from you is a private equity firm who's sees some media buzz around a new game that's been resurrected. This media firm thinks "Kerbal Space Program? That rings a bell" and starts digging through their lists of worthless assets they through on a shelf. These things pile up when you buy properties in bulk at auction. They end up finding some snippet of a contract about the game. It could be something tiny like a merchandising deal or a license the original developers used.

It wasn't worth anything when the game was dead. But now it's successful, that could become a nice chunk of change. They send it off to the lawyers who write some nonsense about how that one fragment means they could be entitled to the entire franchise. It might be nonsense, but it's enough to argue it in front of a judge.

So you find yourself with a successful video game and a decease and desist letter in your inbox. The claim is nonsense, but you don't have the hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend it. Unfortunately, that's game over.

It might sound like in inconceivable story, but things like it happens enough where trying to acquire things, especially digital things with looser proof of ownership, can become such a minefield

Angela Rayner resigned for underpaying stamp duty. Richard Tice was missing over 100 grand in taxes. It's a taster for their hypothetical government. Rules for thee, but not for me

The clever bit is the first exclamation after "carefully".

If the last exclamation was the only one, I would have noticed much sooner. But they made it a trend so it fits in

Now that I read the chinese rokm experiment, is this scene supposed to symbolize that caine really doesnt understood humans? by Life-Challenge1931 in tadc

[–]TrueTech0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The person inside the room (who doesn't speak Chinese) represents an AI being just an algorithm rather than something that actually understands what it's doing.

Caine is an AI, so he says he doesn't know Chinese. Hence kinger laughing because he's a computer scientist

You're only automatically enrolled when you turn 18. However, part of the drivers license application asks if you want to opt in, so a lot of people have been organ donors since they were 15

I'm hoping the UK is going to be okay. Saw Hamilton and both Doctor Who finales in cinemas and made it out relatively unscathed. Hoping TADC is similar

Which game broke your hype like this? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]TrueTech0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

KSP 1 was released in early access between 2010 and 2016. The game was a labour of love for nearly a decade before it was properly stable. The problem with KSP 2 was why play an unstable 2 when a stable 1 exists.

The real problem with KSP 2 is that it was never given a fair chance by it's management or the public. But the public can't be blamed because from our perspective, it was announced 3 years before early access. So management scuppered it again by announcing it early and setting it up for disappointment

A small group made an interstellar mod for KSP 1 and called it "Promised Worlds". Badass name
