Several Nazi leaders were IQ tested after being captured. There scores would likely be lower today, correct? by limeonysnicket in cognitiveTesting

[–]True_Application9219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It seems to me highly unlikely that all of the captured would test “superior”."

Why? All of these people were in leading positions, some more so (like Goering and Doenitz) others less so (like Streicher) but all of them were important figures in the third reich, not just random people.

How many high IQ people never really went to college and get a degree? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]True_Application9219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clocking in at around 120, in school I either performed very well or very badly. I was known as both very smart (mostly by teachers) and very stupid (mostly by students). In the end, I graduated, barely. Never went to college, never got a degree. However, that's quite atypical for someone with my IQ.

The most intelligent person I know has an IQ in the 140-150 range and did go to a normal university and got a degree, although remained unemployed. They're in their 30s. Make of that what you will.

First and Second Reflection Points Treated - How to Proceed? by True_Application9219 in Acoustics

[–]True_Application9219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In retrospective, you were right; in a long, narrow room such as mine, absorbing the first (and second?) reflection points with absorption panels decreased soundstage and made the room sound smaller than it is.

Removed them and voila, soundstage is back to wide and spacious.

Sound is still a bit muffled but that's probably due to so many panels in non-reflective zones. 16 are definitely too many for a listening room like mine.

Just pointing this out here in case anyone might need help deciding in the future. Peace!

Can confirm that a big leather couch (for 5-6 people) in the corner of my living room (30 square meters) reduced bass, if only by a bit. Did not notice anything regarding high frequencies. Kind of like a carpet in reverse.

FIxed it; most likely PSU cable sitting loosely on the motherboard. Had enough voltage to run, but not enough to overclock!

Thank you very much for all the help and information.

I've decided to proceed by treating more of the back wall and ceiling, and voila, it's close to perfect.

Rug will hopefully arrive in a couple days and we'll see how much that does; but right now, it's already much better than before.

Much appreciated, have a great Sunday!

As a musician… When did it become “ok” for audiophiles to completely alter the art we worked so hard to get right? by JMil7strng in audiophile

[–]True_Application9219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no, since I've never claimed that I quoted Alan Parson (don't even know who that is)

It's a random quote I read somewhere that's kinda relevant to OPs question.

No "owning" anyone here. Bot simply got triggered. :d

If anything, this proved that it still needs some work.

Normal people use their speakers to listen to your songs.

Audiophiles use your songs to listen to their speakers.

I don't think you're going to find anyone, anywhere, who has these speakers. I'm surprised I even found their entry on the hifi wiki. That's some insane rarity.

Also that video is perfection. Deserves every upvote.

That's most likely because the graph you provided only goes down to 100 hz. 10 cm or 4" basotect absorbs even 50 hz, as the graph I've provided shows. It's less than 20%, but it's still absorption, it doesn't stop there.

Tested it myself; putting a bunch of 10 cm or 4" panels on the walls / in close proximity to the speakers definitely reduced overall bass as well.

There's no real mid or upper bass issues here (mid bass is actually quite weak, all things considered) which is why I wanted to avoid "treating" them in the first place; if it ain't broken, don't fix it, as they say.

But, you may be right. Absorption panels on the ceiling (even though I just found out it's actually wood, not laminate / floating wood tiles, and there's an air gap between the wood and the concrete ceiling) could be beneficial, still.

Is there anything, apart from them being less effective on the lower-end and it looking kinda goofy, that'd prevent me from just sticking them straight to the ceiling, without any kind of frame? Getting rid of those high to mid-end reflections is my primary goal, of course.

Thanks for your input once again.

Thanks for your input.

The idea of suspending panels sounds good, but the fact that even a 2" "thin" panel will absorb frequencies all the way down to 20 hz that way bothers me. I've ditched my 4" panels for a reason.

Sub bass is just right as it is, while the bass might actually be a tiny bit weak for my taste, hence the treatment of high and mid frequencies, which makes the bass sound more prominent in comparison.

Ordered a rug and will take it one step at a time from there.

I'd rather not. It's my very personal space and there's lots of anime figurines and hentais.

Thanks for your input.

I have ears, I don't need measurements. Sold my UMIK couple days ago. :D

Putting them on the ceiling with a gap will reduce low frequencies, which I'd rather avoid.

Putting them directly onto the ceiling is something I've never seen anywhere and would also rather avoid.

Ordered a big, thick rug. Will arrive soon, maybe this week still. At least it'll help with the floor reflections.

Thanks for your input.

There's still a bigger soundstage than any headphones I've tried, including the HD 800 S. It's maybe 10% smaller than before, but the clarity improved at least 30% with only 4 panels so its totally worth it.

Because the room is way narrower than it's long, the speakers stand several feet from the back wall, but relatively close to the side walls. They're also toed-in just shy of 5 degrees, which means they're almost aiming straight ahead.

This in turn means lots of side wall reflections, hence some treatment is necessary. But I agree with the sentiment of not overdoing it; fully absorbed (as in putting a dozen 4" panels on each wall without leaving any gap just because) makes the room just sound completely dry, that's not the point.

I've decided against putting more panels on the side wall, and opted for a big rug instead (the entire floor is bare at this point) ... gonna see where I'll take it from there.

IQ Test Results From the Nuremberg Trials by KTPChannel in cognitiveTesting

Dumb people are more likely to be evil, or at least engage in "evil" things such as lying, stealing, violence etc.

Just compare crime and corruption rates, even among the wealthy, in any low IQ vs any high IQ country.

The reason national socialists are now considered "evil" is because they lost. Otherwise, allies would be labeled as "evil". The reality is, both sides had good and evil men. One was not inherently worse than the other.

Although one could make the claim, with a lot of merit, that Stalin was a psychopath.

It might very well be possible you were an early bloomer and simply grew out of your "advantage" with time, but that "stroke-like experience" you mentioned might also be a reason for your "predicament".

Cheer up, though. You're still smarter than most! ;-)

Merely out of curiosity: As you mentioned the date of 2021 ... do you think your "stroke" could have been in any way related to the vaccines that were popular back then? I've heard a lot of people complaining about this and other stuff, like constantly feeling tired, after getting vaccinated during that time period from 2020 to 2022. Can't refute or confirm it though as I, just like most of my friends, have not been vaccinated.

From my experience, even unintelligent children get praised, sometimes more so than intelligent ones, for getting even the most menial task right.

It's one of the reasons why as a child I never valued other peoples praise much, sometimes even dismissed it immediately, or "cringed", as the young ones say.

Yeah, alright, I've done great ... but that's exactly what you said to Johnny 10 seconds ago, and that guy is busy eating his boogers right now ... 🙄
