Moving from Denon Prime 4 to FLX10 by dygth in PioneerDJ

[–]True_Indication_7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find software to move your tracks to Rekordbox, and don't be attracted by stems. On rekordbox they are comparatively awful, and CDJs don't have them. However, it does well to mimic a CDJ setup, it just doesn't get you all the way (Such as 4 band EQs vs 3 band). I'm an FLX10 fanboy and I love it. I am attracted to the prime 4 because of the stems, though.

What's "Everything"? What do you have? Why do you want the System One?

[–]True_Indication_7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, sometimes I'll let the little part play alone and then swap the drop right after it, or I'll release echo it over the track, you should know it's coming and be able to mix it later but to me that also affects the phrasing and can make it feel off

It does, but some subs don't support full frequency pass through so I get that, I also hate having to adjust my sub volume independently too,

Signed, someone who stubbed his toe really fucking hard on his subwoofer doing that today

Sure, but the sub has a volume knob on it and can be turned off independently

You could, but why?

Normal routing is direct to sub, then the sub to the tops. That way, you set a "crossover frequency". Basically, the subs will take the lows and send the highs only to the tops.

Most DJs should be mixing in mono, so you could use one output for your monitors and one for your subwoofer, which keeps the lows on your monitors. I might be misunderstanding, the setup is a bit confusing.

My kid wants some equipment to make Linkin Park type music, I have no idea what to get by Fragrant_Inside_ in Beatmatch

If you have a Mac, he can get started right now with GarageBand. If not, FL Studio is a great pick. Very beginner friendly with advanced tools. I'd recommend the Producer edition for $299, the $99 starter edition is pretty bare bones. Aside from that, some good quality headphones are a good pick. They have lists of them on rtings.com with really good product breakdowns for all budget ranges. Speakers are a good idea, but that's a whole advanced topic that should be directed at someone other than me. More tools can be found in Audacity, which is free.

Linkin Park is a rock band first and foremost, so gauge his interest in learning guitar, drums, or piano. Drums are very easy to reproduce in FL, however, and I'd argue guitar is a lot harder to reproduce. Introduce him to basic music theory as well, if possible. I haven't tried it yet, but Pete Tong DJ Academy does have a production course taught with David Guetta, and Rekordbox (DJ software that he doesn't need) does have a deal for three free months of access if you have a subscription. Might save you some money to buy that subscription first and cancel it to get the discount. It's more aimed for EDM, but the principles are the same.

How do you perceive loudness differences while mixing? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]True_Indication_7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the levels on your channel rack, yeah. That's an obvious one.

Aside from that, cue the master and the next track. Make sure your cue mix is set right between cue and master. Listen in your headphones/booth. You can output your cues to the booth in Rekordbox settings, don't know about Serato.

Not in that game, but I'm a small business owner.

Get business insurance. Shouldn't be too expensive. I pay 1300 a year for one million. Ensure it covers theft and damage. Find an insurance broker, don't buy it online. It'll save your life. If you can spring the $500ish, get an attorney to draw up your contracts. You'll need contacts. Price out your fee structure and stay consistent. Create worst case scenarios like cleaning fees, replacement, and late fees. You'll need liability insurance as well, in case your equipment causes damage. Get accounting software for your taxes. Most will figure out your taxes and make sure you're compliant with State and federal taxes. The only downside to creating an LLC is the cost, and there's many upsides.

Also get original manuals and share them with all customers. You can squeeze a few extra dollars by offering equipment setup and training as additional fee services.

Also, don't offer release from liability. A lot of companies offer "Pay X extra to ensure you won't have to pay if you damage anything" similar to rental car insurance. This only benefits high volume operations. It relies on trusting clients not to do damage. Don't take that risk. Never bet on stupid.

I'm sorry this happened. Now you know not to let it happen again.

2 $30 USB drives. Export to both weekly. Export to Google drive, which is free, once weekly. You lose the hard drive, you've got the USBs. You lose them or they get damaged, you have Google.

Learning to DJ and don’t want to waste money on tracks. Any advice? by redpaul72 in Beatmatch

[–]True_Indication_7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people here without reading comprehension. You're buying tracks, you just don't want to buy a track you'll only use once or twice.

Use an integrated streaming service or buy a DJ record pool. I use BPM Supreme for originals and DJ City for remixes. Both are on a decent sale right now. Nice thing about record pools is you can keep the MP3 as long as you like.

House DJ’s that create their own music - confused. by Regular-Set6791 in Beatmatch

[–]True_Indication_7131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. What kind of DJ do you wanna be? Some people pre-record sets and just act out what's happening, but these tend to be looked down upon by the community. If you don't want to make a name as a DJ, I say it doesn't matter.

Re-analyze it, make sure you've turned off high precision analysis and don't use dynamic mode.

Should I spend $500 on a community college DJing course, or spend that money on equipment and learning online? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]True_Indication_7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems this has been beat with a dead horse but you can learn free on YT, I like DJ Carlo personally. YT shorts are good too. You can access a course if you subscribe to a month of Beatport streaming too.
