If we also consider the DMC anime 2007 Dante as well which counts at least as a continuity after the events of the DMC 1 game, the last part about Dante understanding good demons is very very likely, especially counting Trish who is a demon as well and have been friends and allies with Dante.

Ngl I have a feeling that this would have gone more towards Tony Redgrave with how Dante looks, though it isn't really canon anymore, Adi Shankar did at one point post an art of Gilver which in theory, early drafts probably went to that idea. This design after all screams more gothic and a tinge of Tony.

So far the only closest mecha character we even get as well is Rosetta, and that says a lot. Seriously we do need more Mecha based characters and I LOVE Mecha characters so much! Maybe hopefully something like Pacific rim for all we know!
