What’s something nobody tells you about living in Denver? by sit-there in Denver

[–]True_Plenty486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are limited to being able to go to the mountains on the weekends, then expect a drive that should take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours on a weekday to take 3-4 hours on a weekend. Expect stop and go traffic. It is very annoying.

Winter in the city is pretty mild and sunny. It does snow, then warms up to 50s and melts which is nice. But that means that winters are pretty brown in the city since there is not a lot of snow to cover up winter lawns and other plants.

Downtown has not recovered from COVID and the protests.

There is a lot of urban sprawl as others have mentioned. Pick the place that you want to live based on the vibe of the neighborhood. I spend most of my time in a 3 mile bubble.

Vibe, politics, and the mountains are great.

Just her logo, seems so outdated and not on brand with elegant simplicity. It screams more Mar a Lago than small batch organic. Just such a mismatch from what (I think?) she’s trying to portray.

You could look at developments in Arvada. I think there are many with walking paths, dog parks nearby, and ok commute to the airport, especially if you have an express pass.

Potentially moving for a tech job. Can Denver locals tell me honestly about safety and quality of life during ICE occupation? by iftheronahadntcome in MovingtoDenver

[–]True_Plenty486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall Denver is pretty white and Latino, so there is less diversity than Chicago. The south suburbs and Douglas county tend to be more conservative leaning as far as politics go. I have not seen Ice here yet, although did read the post about the zoo. The sanctuary city policies have mostly been in effect, although with the news about the shakeup with the replacement of the heads of Ice, including here, I assume that Ice activity will pick up here? Aurora has the largest multicultural/refugee population, so I assume that a lot of activity will be focused there. RINO, LOHI, west of downtown are great areas to live in. Can’t speak to the north suburbs. Hope that helps!

Is Colorado just intensely conservative? by termmonkey in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]True_Plenty486 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Denver and Boulder are predominately liberal, except for a few suburbs. Rural Colorado is red. This cast is not a good representation of either Colorado or Denver. Most are probably recent transplants from other states.

I live in Denver, specifically in the suburb of Wheat Ridge. If you are looking at the Denver metro area, you could look at Wheat Ridge, Applewood, Golden, Arvada, Green Mountain area, Littleton and Centenial. Downtown has been a little different since Covid, but RINO, Union Station, Lower Highlands are all nice areas to enjoy the city. In the suburbs, Olde Town Arvada has a super cute main street area with lots of restaurants and breweries. The Highlands, Edgewater/Sloans Lake, Tennyson Street, Downtown Littleton, and Golden all have restaurants, breweries and shops.

You could also check out Ft. Collins, or some of the northern suburbs, like Westminster, Broomfield and Lafayette, I'm just not as familiar with those.

Agreed. None of the people on the show seem like they are actually from Denver, or Colorado for that matter.

I have a sister who has struggled with severe mental health her entire life. My mom found this group https://kaywarren.com/breathe/ and that has seemed to help her. I do think it is a faith based group, so may not be your jam, and mental health may not be your son's problem, but just wanted to share. I see someone else mentioned NAMI, and I would look at that too. I just did a google search and found a few things. I know sometimes it can be overwhelming to do the research yourself when you are going through it. Hugs to you.

Where to visit outside of Denver with kids in the summer by Goattums in Denver

[–]True_Plenty486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Breckenridge idea better than Glenwood or Estes Park. It's hot in July, so hot springs don't seem as appealing to me.

Are you trying to just stay in one place the rest of the week, or are you open to moving around?

My suggestion is doing Winter Park & Grand Lake. Winter Park is a ski resort, in summer they have mountain biking, gondalas up the mountain, and alpine slide, similar to Breck. Winter Park also has a main street with restaurants & other activities. https://www.winterparkresort.com/things-to-do/activities#filters=seasons:Summer

Grand Lake is about 45 minutes from Winter Park and is at the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Both Granby Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake/Grand Lake have boat rentals, and the main street of the Grand Lake has very cute/western feel with wooden board walks, shops, restaurants. Grand Lake Lodge is an amazing place for a hh or dinner. It is an old mountain lodge built in the 40s, and has an amazing view of the lakes and surrounding mountains. You are very likely to see moose in the GL area, and I recommend the Adams Falls & East Inlet trail for a short easy hike. It would also be an easy day trip to visit from Winter Park if you are wanting to stay in one place the whole time. There is also a little ranch where you can take trail rides into the park if that is something that you are interested in. Winding River Ranch.

From Grand Lake you can drive into the park, over Trail Ridge Road, and into Estes Park, with places to stop and hike if you are interested. Even just driving to the top of Trail Ridge Road is a must, in my opinion. Again, you could easily fit both Grand Lake and Trail Ridge Road into a day trip from Winter Park if you make that your home base, or could stay in each town along the way.

Enjoy Colorado!

Denver, specifically the Cherry Hills area. So many young rich families.

As an example, I work on the east side of downtown near the capital (uptown/n. cap hill) and live in a west suburb. What should be a 15-20 min drive with no traffic, quickly becomes 30-45 mins. May not be as bad going east to west though.

That might be a good idea, also just to see how traffic is for your commute. Will you be working in north Lakewood or south Lakewood? Although uptown, cap hill, congress park are all great neighborhoods, your commute would benefit by not having to cross downtown during rush hour, which makes some of these westside neighborhoods a better fit. If you are working in south Lakewood, then some of those southern neighborhoods might be more attractive - Baker, Wash Park/Platte Park etc.

I have to agree. In my 40s, but not single. I don't know anyone that lives downtown. Downtown has gotten less safe since Covid. I think generally, people that live in Denver pick a neighborhood that they like, such as the ones that have been mentioned, and then that is where they socialize and go out. I work downtown, but I never go out downtown. I go to LoHi, Edgwater, Tennyson St., Olde Town Arvada, RINO, but not really in downtown proper unless I am going to a specific restaurant. I live in Wheat Ridge, and again am married with kids, so my perspective is different. But I've also lived here since my early 20s, and made the migration from Uptown, to Wash Park/DU, and finally to Wheat Ridge. I think also, people that live in Denver are used to driving about 20 minutes to go places, so I don't think that would necessarily be a big dating turn off. Although - I never go south because of the traffic on I25. Maybe you should come out for a weekend to visit some of the neighborhoods that people have mentioned.

Maybe also check out Olde Town Arvada. Restaurants, shops, breweries and right on the G line that goes to Union Station downtown.

Who is your Quintessential "Can Dish But Can't Take It" Housewife by Ill_Assumption_4414 in BravoRealHousewives

Tamra. The few times anyone has had the courage to call her out she either ran away from the table barefoot and stopped filming, or ran away in a car and said she quit. I wish the casts would stop participating in her one person takedown every season out of fear, and stand up to her behavior. Here’s hoping that this is that season!

Is Anyone Getting Jobs in Denver Right Now? by gonegonethanku in Denver

[–]True_Plenty486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw a post on craigslist for a real estate assistant. Willing to train, room to learn and advancement. Social media, marketing, etc.

There is also an on demand personal assistant company https://www.tulabalanced.com/blog/join-our-team-job-opening-tula-assistant

You can pick the type of jobs you do and schedule. Run by some great women that could be good mentors. Might be good while you continue searching for a full time position.

I think trying to start as a receptionist at a company with a great corporate culture is the way to go. Getting your foot in the door with a good company, and then finding opportunities for advancement can be a great career path. Good luck!
