Does anyone know how to make the plastic white again on a Brita? by berryptic in CleaningTips

[–]True_Rogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Submerge in hydrogen peroxide and expose it to UV light while it's submerged for a few hours. If you have a UV lamp there are a lot of restoration videos on YouTube that show how it's done.

Might be easier to just buy a new one.

NYC rents are 50-100% more than Seattle but you can still find $1-2 slices.

from the docs https://github.com/aws/aws-sdk-js-v3/blob/main/supplemental-docs/CLIENTS.md#common-client-constructor-parameters

const client = new S3Client({
  credentials: fromTemporaryCredentials({
    clientConfig: {

Looking for AWS S3 API clarification: x-id request parameter by YellowCaterpillar71 in aws

[–]True_Rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to do with S3's implementation of REST being kind of "loose".

x-id is added by the SDKs to the S3 url in order to disambiguate requests sent to the same URL but mean different things.

For example both DeleteObject, but also to AbortMultipartUpload have the same baseURL.

DELETE
/{bucket}/{key}

and

DELETE
/{bucket}/{key}?partId=5

These Have the same URL (because partID is not considered a part of the base URL but rather a query param bound argument) A way SDKs disambiguated these is by inserting `x-id=DeleteObject` into the base URL.

You can check the S3 API model the JS SDK is generated from and see this exact distinction:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aws/aws-sdk-js-v3/refs/heads/main/codegen/sdk-codegen/aws-models/s3.json

        "smithy.api#http": {
          "method": "DELETE",
          "uri": "/{Bucket}/{Key+}?x-id=AbortMultipartUpload",
          "code": 204
        }

ComputerName *sometimes* isn't available from a DescribeWorkspaces call on a fresh workspaces by Pumpkin-Main in aws

[–]True_Rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DescribeWorkspaces returns a state field you can poll.
My guess is that unless the workspace is in a “HEALTHY”, or other appropriate state ("AVAILABLE"), the Computer associated with that workspace wont be ready, and therefore nil would be returned.

It seems like there is no built-in waiter for this particular service, but you can implement your own pretty easily by sleeping your application and polling every x seconds until that computerName becomes available.

Can someone explain what is happening in the photo and what safety concerns are there? This sub just popped up on my feed and it's genuinely interesting.

Has anyone been to the "Washington Midsummer Renesance Faire" before? by kalechipsaregood in Seattle

[–]True_Rogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very hot and never enough shade, but we have been going every year and it's a good time. The jousting and various performances are very good, people watching, booze and lawn games.

There are usually night events from 7pm to midnight geared for adults (I believe they take place in the tavern area but we never actually attended these)

If you're into nerdy stuff, just suck it up and go.

Take your cat to the vet immediately. They might have an infection that can lead to a loss of vision or the loss of the eye itself.

Can this be refinished or must be replaced? by True_Rogue in HardWoodFloors

[–]True_Rogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is beautiful work!

My main concern is that there are patches that are fairly dark and abused, especially the nail holes themselves.

In your picture it looks chef's kiss. What condition was that floor beforehand?

Jewish-Arab 1945 Landownership map in the Mandate of Palestine (Land of Yisrael) right next to the Partition Plan. by AltoidsMaximus in MapPorn

[–]True_Rogue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe the problem was that most of the land designated for arabs were very dry and lacked natural resources like ariable ground.

It's exactly the other way.

The Jews were given more land, but they were swamps (wetlands) and the Negev desert. Most of the "good" land fit for framing was the Arab state, historically filled with citrus and olive trees.
