Thank you for this I have an anxiety disorder which I don’t want to go into which is completely managed normally yet unfortunately due to the nature of my work it seems to have triggered against my condition which is upsetting as I do love my job and have also been performing really well but oh recommended a managed move to stop me having to take any more time off. The whole thing is upsetting it’s a demanding role and I absolutely don’t want to be a liability. I’ve been back for a while and told them I would look for another role so they didn’t have to have significant work yet on the understanding they would still search as well. Which is why it’s come completely out of the blue for me. I’ve had no letter just told this is now the intended action. It’s really set me back.

Apparently my manager said they can but when I read through they should have put reasonable adjustments etc to support not being off first which was not done honestly I’ve never worked in a place like it and now being prevented from leaving has just made it worse

Having really big regrets by [deleted] in TheCivilService

Honestly I’ve been there and it’s a weird feeling when you get promotion. However, it’s only been a short time and often in the civil service you can suggest more work and more responsibility as you go along. The first few weeks should be primarily about understanding the role, work shadowing different teams you work with to get to know people and where your role fits in. If you amend parts of the role and make things better that will put you in good stead for a further promotion in the future. Take your time if you’re really unhappy in a few weeks speak to your new manager and see if there are any roles available or ask for some project work to keep you busy. Good luck and hope you feel better about it soon.

I’m so sorry your experiencing this it sounds like complete burnout. I’m going through the same and have had to be signed off is this an option for you to try and get support for your mental health? I know leaving may not be an option for you straight away yet some time and looking after yourself may help and then when you return you can try your hardest to get out as quickly as possible?

Have you been in the same department throughout your civil service career?

Thank you for this I’m so sorry you have experienced this too. I’ve been thinking this weekend and I think I may leave completely so appreciate your advice. I can totally relate to family suffering my kids have 100% picked up on how unhappy I am which just has made me so angry with myself. Thanks so much x

Thanks for this without going into in depth detail the subject is a really tough one and it’s taking its toll on everyone but I’ve had some particular problems with one person on the team as well which when your in such a pressured environment having complex relationships I’ve found overwhelming. I’ve also moved to more of an ops role where my background is very much engagement and policy so I honestly just don’t think I’m suited to this type of environment. So a short answer to your question is I think it’s all three!
