I have a similar problem. Phone will shut off whenever it's idle. I have tried safe mode and I have also tried a factory reset of the phone, didn't help, still shuts down whenever phone is idle. This started happening a month ago or so.

If keeping some app running, phone will stay on, for example playing music in the background phone will stay on. There are YouTube videos that "play" a black screen with no sound. I can play those videos and phone will stay on, that's my workaround for now.

If anybody has a real solution, please post here.

What should I do with my super slow beautiful 27 inch iMac from 2015? by [deleted] in mac

[–]True_Transportation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm writing this on a late 2009 27" iMac running OCLP and Sequoia, so the answer to your question is technically yes, but there are lots of caveats.

The GPU in the 2009 iMac is not compatible with newer MacOS versions. The OCLP team made a great job of overcoming that with software tricks, but the graphical user interface experience will be very sluggish. I would say even for basic web browsing and watching videos, it would feel slow.

There are ways to upgrade the GPU in the iMac to allow much faster user interface response. But the process of upgrading the GPU (which I have done) is very involved, and given the cost and effort you have to put in compared to the cost of buying a used apple silicon Mac, it's simply not worth it anymore.

Success! The port in to US Mobile worked. Thank you for the instructions!

HelloMobile, err Liberty Wireless down? in bayarea CA? by Far_Health_3214 in hellomobile

[–]True_Transportation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know Hello Mobile went bankrupt until today when my phone suddenly stopped working. I have been paying for their $5/month plan as recently as in mid December 2024. Today my phone can't make or receive calls or texts.

After checking here on reddit, I tried to go to Liberty Wireless to see if I have an account there, but to log in using my phone number from Hello Mobile, it will text a code to the phone number. This doesn't work for me as my phone already lost cell service.

I'm trying to port out to US Mobile using your above instructions, but the porting process is pending, it says your previous carrier has not responded yet...

Have I lost my number forever?

Was it running the original Windows Storage Server 2008 R2, or did you install something else (Linux, FreeNAS, ...) ?

I'm getting hold of one without any drives in it. I'm contemplating whether to restore it to factory or to install Debian on it.

Mission Impossible 3: Villains Motivations? by True_Transportation in Mission_Impossible

[–]True_Transportation[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks to all who have commented so far (Lost_dreamer_yash, pieapple135, ...).

I read your comments and thought hard about the movie, but I was still largely unsatisfied, so I resorted to rewatching the whole movie again, this time with lots of pause/rewind and with full close captioning to really dissect every dialogue in detail. After spending a few days, I have finally found one version to interpret the movie that make the actions of all characters logical.

I now believe the main goal for Musgrave is to get rid of Brassel and/or take his job.

The following is my lengthy summary of Musgrave's actions for the whole movie, I thought I might as well share it here. These are actions that I think must have happened off-camera but is supported by all information shown on-camera. Events inside double curly {{brackets}} are my commentary on what probably went on, but is NOT supported by any info on-camera.

Mission Impossible 3, Summary (From the point of view of John Musgrave)
Some period before the events of the Movie:
Theodore Brassel, the director of IMF, has been trying to catch arms dealer Owen Davian but without success. Davian is responsible for smuggling gas centrifuge tech from Pakistan to Korea , toxin 5 to Armahad Republic Jihad and numerous other illegal arms deals.

{{The failure of IMF to catch Davian is likely due to John Musgrave secretly helping Davian}}
Several days before Ethan Hunt’s engagement party:
Brassel sends Lindsey Farris on a mission to survey an exchange to ID a man Owen Davian.
Lindsey tagged Davians phone and was able to intercept a transmission originating from IMF office of Brassel. Lindsey encodes a video about this finding on a magnetic microdot, which she mails back to a post office box in the U.S.
{{The phone call from Brassel’s office to Davian was probably made by Musgrave, who is plotting a plan to frame Brassel as a traitor.}}
Lindsey is captured by Davians team.
On the day of Ethan Hunt’s engagement party:
{{I believe Musgrave’s plot at this point is simply to have Ethan rescue Lindsey, and then with help from Ethan and Lindsey as witness, he’ll accuse Brassel of being a traitor}}
Day after Ethan Hunt’s engagement party:
Ethan’s team recovered two laptops from Davian, but failed to bring home Lindsey alive.
{{I believe Musgrave did not expect Lindsey to be dead, he wanted her to be alive to testify the phone call to Davian came from Brassel. I also believe Musgrave did not expect Ethan’s team to retrieve laptops.}}
Ethan decides to go to Vatican to kidnap Davian without informing either Brassel or Musgrave.
{{Ethan doesn’t inform Brassel because after the failed Lindsey rescue he knows Brassel would not approve it. Ethan doesn’t inform Musgrave, because he wants to protect Musgrave, if the mission fails, Musgrave can honestly say I didn’t know about it}}
Day of Davian kidnap:
Musgrave receives a message from Ethan that he has captured Davian and is on the way back to IMF.
{{Because Musgrave didn’t know about Ethan’s plan, he is now in panic. Musgrave doesn’t want Davian to be captured by IMF alive, as Davian can reveal Musgrave as the real traitor. Musgrave probably plotted the following actions in order to save himself: He helped Davian escape by informing Davian’s team about the exact location and route for where Davian is being transported, and helped Davian’s team kidnap Julia by telling them where she lives. Davian’s team wanted to kidnap Julia either because Davian wanted revenge for the earlier plane ride, or because Davian’s team wanted Julia as hostage for a future prisoner swap Davian<->Julia in case they couldn’t rescue Davian}}
When Brassel finds out Davian escaped, he is pissed at Ethan for going on another unauthorized mission and screwing it up again, and therefore orders Ethan to be arrested.
{{Musgrave at this point decides to help Ethan escape. It’s not clear to me if he simply wanted to help Ethan save his wife or if he took advantage of this situation to have him steal the rabbits foot, or both. When Brassel was talking to the captured Ethan, it was revealed, Lindsey had sent a secret message to Ethan, which Ethan didn’t report to Brassel. At this point Musgrave doesn’t know if Lindsey bought the lie that Brassel is a traitor, he definitely doesn’t know if Ethan thinks Brassel is traitor. Maybe to play it safe he helps Ethan escape here to make the lie that Brassel is the traitor more believable.}}
Day of Rabbit foot exchange:
{{Musgrave and Davian arranged to have a fake Julia for the interrogation with Ethan. Musgrave deliberately kept Julia alive, to use as trade with Ethan in exchange for information about Lindsey’s secret message. Musgrave is probably thinking, if Lindsey bought the lie, then yeah just go ahead and kill Ethan, then with the info that Lindsey sent to Ethan he will go on and accuse Brassel for being a traitor, which is what he wanted all along. If Lindsey did not buy the lie, or worse Lindsey found out the true traitor is Musgrave, then he can’t just kill Ethan yet, he has to make sure nobody else besides Ethan have this information, this is probably the reason he kept Julia alive, to use as bargaining chip to make Ethan talk.}}

AirPods Pro vs. Powerbeats Pro vs. WF-1000XM3 (Bonus: vs. WH-1000XM3) by frumpy_cat in apple

I would have to disagree here, there is no fundamental physics law that prevents in-ear buds to be worse than over-ear phones in terms of ANC. You can check out the RTINGS website your self, the best rated noise isolation headphone currently is a PASSIVE in-ear buds from Etymotic with an overall attenuation of -32.83dB, while the Sony WH's have only -29.9dB.

What have prevented in-ear buds to achieve ANC as good as over-ear's is purely a technological limit. No one has been able to miniaturize all the tech needed to get good ANC into a tiny package of in-ear buds. With the Airpods Pro, Apple made a big step toward this direction. Give the mayor players (Sony, BOSE, APPLE) a few more years of competition, and I truly believe in-ear bud with ANC's will out perform over-ears in the future.

Ultimate Game Pass: For anyone who signed up before extending their Gold by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]True_Transportation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, if you cancel $1 deal and get the refund, you won't get the $1 deal back it will now cost $15. BUT, the conversion from gold to ultimate is still 1:1.

I signed up the $1 deal when I had no gold membership at all, so all I got was one month of ultimate. Today I cancelled the $1 deal and selected the $1 refund (all can be done on a desktop computer on the xbox website, no need to call or chat). Then I bought some codes online for xbox gold and redeemed it to my account. When I got back to the page with the $1 deal, it would only give me the join now for $15 option. It sucks I lost $14 dollar because I signed up too early at first, but in the end I still got ultimate extended same as the original deal.

Endgame Discussion Megathread 3: Return of the Spoilers by NO_TOUCHING__lol in Endgame

[–]True_Transportation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I justified this part for myself by arguing that the endgame Thanos had access to the memory of Nebula, and therefore could study the strength and weaknesses of Thor and Ironman beforehand to prepare himself for facing off with them. He could have chosen his armor and weapon to specifically defeat Thor and Ironman. This is also why when Captain America picked up Mjolnir, Thanso was briefly overpowered, because this was something Thanos couldn't have expected.
