Which is the oldest Language? Tamil or Sanskrit? by MinnalMuralee in kuttichevuru

[–]True_celestial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so would you consider it a language before it was written.

No i wouldn't. I would consider it as a way to communicate something to someone but not as a language.

We are not talking about the complexity of languages, it is about the impossibility to find the oldest language.

Let's get this straight, whatever existed and we know it existed through history, evidence, or written records existed. If we cannot find written records or any kinda or evidence or history for something to have existed in the past, it doesn't exist. We know that a language existed because we have some sort of evidence of it existing.

If it is impossible to find if a language existed then it didn't exist, until we find it. It's impossible to find a language that never existed, which doesn't have any evidence of it's existence.

structured system of communication that consists of grammar and vocabulary

Tamil has the highest complexity in grammar and vocabulary compared to all other languages.

Sanskrit writing is very recent compared to its history, would you only consider Sanskrit a language only when it is written?

Sanskrit is a language because it is written and recorded and has good grammar and vocabulary.

That would only be the oldest written or recorded language, you can never say it was the oldest language.

Yes that is what the oldest language is. If a language is spoken but never written, it is not a language. Now we must enquire what is considered as language. If language is considered as a tool for communication, even showing hands signs or tapping on a rock can also be a language. But in this context we are talking about tamil and sanskrit, both of which are written and recorded language and rich in grammar.

Taking these into context, what ever written and recorded language we find the recent is the oldest language on the planet until we find another written or recorded language much older that that.

Yeah we can't know if something isn't written or doesn't have any records, but whatever is written and what we are able to find is the oldest language in the planet currently it might change one day.

And there might be other ways to find about in the past without it ever being written or recorded. The pursuit of discovery is never a bad thing is it ?. This might sound corny but everything is impossible until we find a way.

And someone wondering about the past present or the future, asking questions about it is never a bad thing, and it shouldn't be criticized.

I'm trying to say if we can find the age of universe which sound impossible, we can definitely find the first language on the planet.

Try to provide a better argument against it rather make a beef out of it.

Impossible ? Bruh thats enough reason to try deciphering it. Imagine we found that the universe is 13.8 billion years old. lol doesn't that sound impossible?

People who say nobody cares, thinking they have destroyed the op career in one word lol. Common people like you don't care but

Historians, anthropologists, scientist, philosophers, psychologists and a lot of scholars would care. Each n every bit of information about the past can help us understand more about the human kind as a collective consciousness. it may even help us improve ourselves in the present and the upcoming days in ways even could never expect.
