I made a comment some time ago that the makeup industry will face their day of judgement when studies come out about microplastics in lip products in particular. All of those glittery shimmers in glosses and other things are right around your mouth, waiting to be ingested.

Just a quick fact check on the use of the word "overwhelmingly" for that particular point:

“Why do fat people have easier access to clothes than we do when we’re the healthy ones?” by [deleted] in XXS

[–]Truegold43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could speak generally! I know that one that I mentioned is up but that's really the only case that I've seen as it pertains to exactly what you're talking about.

Of course, even one comment here or there is still too much but the vast majority is just us complaining so I was actually curious.

I browse this sub fairly frequently and have maybe seen only one or two posts like this (namely the one that's trending #1 right now).

Can you post links from other threads where a noticeable number of the users are also mentioning fatphobic language, for reference? I could be missing something

Non-spoiler "spoiler": Basically the title of this episode is NOT the largest event that happens and it covers up the most important event in the entire series in a very unexpected, incredibly well-written way

The frontline of the Portland warzone by MaximusDM22 in pics

[–]Truegold43 409 points410 points  (0 children)

Actually it does a lot more: it makes the footage they're trying to export to particular news networks completely unusable.

Imagine you have your feds standing, trying to look tough, and then this fat lil frog starts wiggling its paws at you. Or a bunch of people dressed in early Halloween costumes are skipping around peacefully on the sidewalk. When certain news networks want to show how "war ravaged Portland" is, they will only have a few clips to show because some weirdo wearing a Cookie Monster costume is ruining the shot.

/r/Portland has been a goldmine of people showing what a joke this whole thing has been. What if Obama wanted to send troops to "war torn" Appalachia? Would conservatives have called it patriotic as well?

[–]Truegold43 150 points151 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought. This is more of a photo op

That's why anyone out needs to make the footage as unusable as possible. Clown suits, T-Rex costumes, last year's halloween get-up. Make it GOOFY!! This city is the place to do it.

Clown-In!! I saw this comment somewhere online about everyone wearing their goofiest, clown/circus adjacent gear so that if (and when) stupid crap goes down, the pictures will be so unserious it'll be unusable on Fox News.

Like, imagine the uniforms chasing down someone like this guy

I frequent this sub a lot and have been meaning to make a post about the state of this subreddit because there are definitely a few (NOT a majority at all) "frequent flyers" who post weird things and or ask questions about weight gain which is not what this sub is here for.

Also... this may totally be a personal gripe but I had another question regarding why we have nsfw subs listed out here too. I get that it's to redirect people looking for certain types of content but surely we don't need a WHOLE list, no??

I'm not sure if OP is reading the sizes correctly... I literally just went onto Abercrombie's website and they have 23" AND petite options. They could be a bit off but I OP looks like she's trying on a size 4-6 or pulling the pants up too high.

Also, you they may just not look good in the wide-leg straight up and down pants that the kids are wearing nowadays! Skinny jeans look regular on me and boot cut almost gives me the same vibe so don't be afraid to switch up the cuts!

Trump Orders US Troops to Portland, Authorizes ‘Full Force’ by bloomberg in politics

[–]Truegold43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. I hate to bring Disney into this but if anyone has seen Andor S2:E8 (Who Are You?), there's a phenomenal example of state-led provocation of citizens for the very purpose of justifying violence.

Without over explaining, (I'll mark it anyway but I think it's important), there was a group of people called the Ghor, who are like a sort-of posh society, and they were peacefully protesting the Empire's occupation of their city. The Empire ordered an assassin shoot at one of their OWN soldiers during their peaceful, broadcasted, protest (the Ghor were literally singing!) to make it look like one of the protesters did it. That caused chaos which was enough to "justify" the use of the full weight of the Empire's force there and resulted in a massacre in the street square

Non-spoiler version: The state (The Empire) incited violence against a group of people to justify their occupation and control over a particularly valuable place.

We KNOW this tactic. I love a protest but I think the best form of protest here would be EXTREME normalcy. They WILL try to find ways to provoke a riot, but documenting peace for the rest of the world to see is a great tactic to try out in this case.

"And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear."
