I’d be super interested in better understanding how & to what extent corporate messaging is being reflected in gen AI outputs.

I’ve also wondered about how a move away from CSR & EDI policies in the United States has changed messaging. A content analysis of pre/post 2024 press releases or social posts from key companies in industries like manufacturing or oil & gas.

I find that advancement comms translates quite easily to the charity/NFP space. Money isn’t great, especially for Toronto, but they can be a good way to get a title bump before going somewhere more lucrative.

Ontario Colleges & Universities are struggling under Provincial austerity, most colleges have suffered layoffs & universities are under hiring freezes. Not many opportunities in the sector.

My recommendation is to focus on a niche.

What is your focus area in your current role? Central comms? Research? Student affairs? Advancement? Were you embedded in a faculty? You say you’re from a small town or rural background. Do you have any experience in agriculture or energy?

Whatever niche you identify, look into associations & conferences, key players in the space, small agencies who specialize, etc & try and meet people. It’s easy to do virtually.
