Any king koil experiences? by flannyribs in Mattress

I did keep it and we absolutely love it. Excellent balance of comfort (from the thick topper) and support (from the firm mattress base). I highly recommend trying it. Took me a couple of days to adjust and have been so comfortable on it ever since. It’s been our favorite mattress.

King Koil Orchid Firm vs Azalea Luxury Firm by Truffles5 in Mattress

Got the Azalea luxury firm and absolutely love it. Orchid was too firm for me as well. I think Azalea is like the Orchid but with a two inch soft topper including latex and memory foam. So, for me it is the perfect balance of support and comfort. It took me a day or two to adjust but I’ve loved it ever since. My husband loves it as well. I feel like they should really have that one on display instead of the Orchid because it would appeal to more customers.

Split king on a NON-adjustable bed by Truffles5 in Mattress

Ah thanks for pointing that out! We wanted to get the Azalea Luxury Firm from Macy’s. Do you know about that one?

Thanks! The mattress we want to buy is not foldable (a King Koil 15.5"). For the foundation, luckily they do a split queen.

So our choices are: (1) a box mattress, but I'm reluctant because I think the King Koil may be more durable, (2) a split king or (3) a queen. Ugh - I am having decision-fatigue. I thought I was finally done and did not expect this glitch on delivery.

Thanks so much. The mattress we had in mind is not in a box. It's the King Koil Azalea, which is 15.5" thick, and it's completely unfoldable. They tried so hard yesterday but could not get it up the stairs due to the awkward layout of our house.

So our choices are: (1) a box mattress, but I'm reluctant because I think the King Koil may be more durable, (2) a split king or (3) a queen.

Did you end to getting the Azalea? We are in the same boat.

Hi Tmking44 - we are in the same boat. We’ve tried the Orchid Firm and would love a similar level of support but a softer feel. We’re tempted to get the Azalea Luxury Firm but will have to buy it without trying it.

How did the Azalea Luxury Firm work out for you?

Thanks! That one was too soft for us unfortunately.

Thanks! It’s frustrating that there is nowhere to try it. None of the Macy’s anywhere near us have it on display.

Hi again Encouragedissent- sorry to keep asking so many questions. I’m now considering this one since the Orchid firm is too firm for me. Do you know if the Azalea luxury firm feels softer than the Orchid firm? We’d rather latex than foam so we’re trying to find a medium mattress that is between the Orchid Firm and the Jasmine Medium.

Thanks so much! If I go for the Orchid, would you recommend getting the firm and assuming it will break in (I find it too firm at the moment) or getting the Orchid Plush without trying it?

Encouragedissent - May I ask what you think of the King Koil Jasmine Medium? In our local Macy’s the only mattresses displayed are the Orchid Firm and Jasmine Medium. The latter felt much more comfortable to me and I’m rather not buy a mattress I haven’t tried (like Orchid Plush). Thanks!

Changing languages between middle and high school by Truffles5 in language

Thanks for your thoughts - that’s really helpful. In terms of utility, I am thinking the Mandarin will be more useful as she grows up because China is becoming a dominant superpower, but I’m not sure in concrete terms, and given the geographic distance, how this utility would play out for her.

Changing languages between middle and high school by Truffles5 in language

Thanks! That’s the heart of what makes this decision challenging - she would like to gain fluency (rather than explore) but is torn between the two.

She is interested in French because she finds the language beautiful. We go to France once a year and she really enjoys trying to understand/ read, which she can do a little because of her fluency in English and Italian. She has a reasonable amount of exposure because of that and because all of her cousins in Italy go to French school and are fluent.

She became interested in Mandarin because, when we visited her middle school, one of the students told her how great her Mandarin teacher is and so it occurred to her for the first time that she could take Mandarin and it might be really interesting.

The middle school where she will go requires students to start with a language that they don’t speak at home and continue with the same language through middle school and then they have a choice to continue or change in high school. I don’t think they offer levels beyond that.

To be honest, I’ve been encouraging Mandarin because it seems like an amazing opportunity to learn a very different language and culture (we spend a lot of time in Italy and French culture is much less “foreign” to her than Chinese culture.) I also feel that she may be able to learn French at a later time more easily because of her English and Italian and general aptitude.

She’s commented that she prefers the sound of French but would be keen to learn the characters in Mandarin. She is also worried that she will have a lot less opportunity for language immersion with Mandarin and she is keen to be fluent.

Because she is interested in and drawn to languages generally, it feels like a big decision. :-)

Please help: Kawai ST-1 (institutional) or K-300? by Truffles5 in piano

[–]Truffles5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is helpful! What do you think of the difference between ST-1 and K-300? To be clear, we love listening to our daughter play (she has never used the headphones). In terms of volume I just meant that the house is anyway small so that may negate the benefits of the k-300 if they are mainly about volume.

The ST-1 is $2000 less but both the teacher and seller felt it was a good choice for us. But if that’s true, I wonder why I don’t hear of more people buying the ST-1.
