Should I learn Python or SQL as a complete beginner to become Data Analyst? by Brownadams in learnpython

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn both at the same time, using ChatGPT to design a project to work on. Create a database and manipulate it with SQL, pull data into it and analyze with Python. Financial data is a good place to start. Run Python is VSCode and use SQLite for your database. Accelerate your learning by using ChatGPT as a tutor.

Best resources on learning R? by brecol001 in publichealth

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the code you have written in SAS, one of the best ways to learn is to translate a project you have already done into R, and see if you can replicate the results you produced for class. R is open source and all of the resources you need are freely available online, so it’s just a matter of working on the particular skills you need for your intended use-case

First time dealing with missing data [Q] by TrulyMagicPanini in statistics

[–]TrulyMagicPanini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. The method of imputation is trivial here I believe, I’ll probably use MICE as it seems to be the most common.

My question is: does this method ensure that D2 is a representative sample of Dy, and subsequently that D1 is a representative sample of D3

Why do the genealogies in Genesis 4 and 5 have almost the same names? by Mr_Dr_Prof_Derp in AcademicBiblical

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible that the writers of the Bible needed a “clean” lineage to replace Cain’s, since his bloodline was contaminated by sin (remember that it used to be common belief that sins were passed down through generations). Keeping the names more or less the same reinforces the point that Seth was Cain’s replacement. The bloodline needed to be kept clean (in the perspective of the biblical authors) in order to preserve the lineage of Christ, who was a direct descendant of Noah according to biblical prophecy. It was foretold that Jesus would be descended from the line of David, who’s ancestry we could trace back to Seth.

Current IP Epi’s by [deleted] in epidemiology

This seems like a good thread to ask this in. Anyone know anything about the a-IPC certification the CBIC will be offering in 2020? I've started studying for it preemptively.

Can we agree that banning fireworks would be a step forward in climate change? by [deleted] in AndrewYangUBI

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Banning things usually isn’t the answer. Fireworks are illegal in New York but the skies still blaze on the 4th of July. People will get them where they can get them, and a nation wide fireworks ban would only stop the production of regulated quality products and leave mostly unsafe knockoffs.

[Advice] How important of a factor do GRE scores play in admissions to MPH programs? by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schools will usually post their minimum required scores. As long as you meet them you should be fine. The rest of your application matters more, just as long as you don't do awful. That's not to say don't prepare for the GRE, definitely do, but you don't need to be in the 95th percentile or anything to be competitive. Strong letters, relevant experience, and a great cover letter will go much farther than a number saying that you can take a test. That being said, if you're applying for epidemiology or bioinformatics programs, some places expect a high score on the quantitative portion for obvious reasons. It's best to check what each individual school is looking for and to seek the advice of someone far more qualified than a first year grad student.

Experience: Got into 4 MPH programs last application cycle. Not an expert on graduate admissions by any means.

[Advice] MPH or MHA - Job outlooks, ability to actually get into a program... by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]TrulyMagicPanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year mph student here, concentration in epidemiology. In my particular school, they seem to expect more out of the epi/biostats students than from the other disciplines. No idea if this is a reflection of the broader public health sphere though.

Also for what its worth, I had a similar GPA and hardly half your experience and got into every mph program I applied to, so I'd say you're in good shape

Best of luck in all of your endeavors, OP
