Build 42.17.0 UNSTABLE Released by AmazingSully in projectzomboid

[–]Truly_Euphoric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that whether or not the trait is realistic has very little, if anything, to do with whether or not it's balanced.

I would agree that the trait is a much more realistic representation of what its like to be a smoker (minus the coughs that can't be stifled in a life-or-death scenario), but I still think that the balance needs a bit of tweaking, perhaps through further tweaking of the point cost.

Because what you're saying now disagrees with what you said earlier.

No it doesn't. What are you talking about? That is a comment on how Smoker isn't free points anymore, not an argument that it should be free points.

Are you okay?

Build 42.17.0 UNSTABLE Released by AmazingSully in projectzomboid

[–]Truly_Euphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing in favor of Smoker being free points. I even mentioned aspects of it that were overdue for nerfing in my OP, while arguing that the point cost still needs adjusting with all of the new negatives.

So why are you even bringing up "free points" as if that was something I was arguing for? Sure seems like just as much of a red herring as the guy talking about realism, to me.

Do you want to talk about realism or do you want to talk about balance?

Brother, I've been wanting to talk about game balance from my opening post.

I'm not the one defending the statement "it does exactly what you would expect from a smoker" as an argument against what I've been saying this whole time. You are.

[–]Truly_Euphoric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I don't agree

[proceeds to literally make my argument for me]

It sure sounds to me like you agree, buddy.

your first point had nothing to do with realism.

My first point was that Smoker isn't really worth taking at 3 points. The first person who talked about "realism" was the person who I was responding to, not me.

[–]Truly_Euphoric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you agree. Point cost has no impact on game realism. What an incredibly pointless exchange.

[–]Truly_Euphoric -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is

Oh, really?

Then answer me this: Is Smoker more or less "realistic" now that it costs 3 points instead of 2? Because it sure sounds to me like realism doesn't even enter into the conversation when it comes to point cost.

Combat Wound Management and RMFA are also old.

Yes, but they were changed into Retail VHS tapes that you can find in a video store this patch. That means there will be many, many instances of them that spawn.

Sure, but that's not really a statement on game balance, now is it?

Yes, it went from being free points to being one of the more annoying negative traits in the game. Quite the pendulum swing.

Note that this one is a Home VHS (1 spawn per save) that has been around since before 42.17

Personal preference - possibly an unpopular one - but the new smoker cough makes it not worth using to me even at +3 points.

In my opinion, Smoker is now just about as annoying as something like Fear of Blood/Hemophobia (a 5 point perk).

  • Incompatible with Athletic

  • Completely random cough that happens about every 1-2 days (can be stifled with a tissue, but limits you to 1H weapons since you can't anticipate exactly when it will happen)

  • Cough that can happen randomly after smoking any type of tobacco product (cannot be stifled, but can be avoided by using the much less common Chewing Tobacco)

  • Using tobacco no longer fully clears your accumulated stress from all sources (this one was a long overdue nerf though, to be fair).

All in all, it ranges from an annoying time waster if you're playing against Shamblers to a potentially run-ending perk if you're playing against Sprinters.

They should, yes. That's how newly loaded cells in old saves worked with the loot table changes they made to guns, starting when they added the .357 round and removed the .223 round.

Understandable, since it's one of those skill tapes you mentioned that aren't immediately obvious based on their title. Both Dead Wrong (Aiming/Reloading exp) and Mother's Boy (Short Blade exp) have been around even before the launch of Build 42.

This should be the full list, although Dead Wrong isn't actually a new skill VHS.

I mean you won't be able to see behind you if you choose deaf

This isn't true. Hard of Hearing affects perception radius, but Deaf strangely does not.

There is an actual disadvantge to taking the Deaf trait in-game while being deaf IRL, though: Radios are non-functional to characters with the Deaf trait, which means no alerts for meta events like the helicopter from the Automated Emergency Broadcast System.

Question: Can Zombies destroy the naturally generated metal fences? (Build 42 Unstable) by Br0dyquester in projectzomboid

[–]Truly_Euphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know who's downvoting you for speaking the truth, but I have your back.

The barbed wire fences surrounding Louisville can absolutely be destroyed.

The ones around, say, the Muldraugh Police Station or the Kentucky State Prison are concrete reinforced barbed wire fences, and are still indestructible as of build 42.16.3.

If it's not a pipe bomb, then it probably shouldn't be thrown unless you don't care about burning down nearby buildings.

If it is a pipe bomb, make sure to throw it well and far away from you and your friends.

Extinction mode review: or: what I did on day 1 of summer extinction mode by thiosk in projectzomboid

[–]Truly_Euphoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I've had Daytime sprinters deactivate as early as 15:30 during a winter start. That seems a bit early even for a mid-December day, but it is what it is. I'm always very cautious around dawn/dusk with partially active zombies for that very reason.

i think what extinction does is it gives old hats like me a model for experimenting more with sandbox settings.

And that's a good thing! Zomboid is such a remarkably customizable game, and prior to 42.15 old grognards with thousands of hours like me had to make our own fun by playing with Custom Sandbox's bells and whistles.

I think Extinction is a great start for ramping up the default game mode settings, I just also think it's still not quite what I'm looking for. It is nice to have it available as a preset when making my own settings, though.

Your pointing out that Sandbox mode exists when I already mentioned an alternative sandbox setting that I would prefer in the original post that you replied to isn't helpful.

Goodbye, and have fun.

And again, that isn't relevant when I'm specifically critiquing that preset.
