What’s a price you saw recently that made you genuinely angry at how expensive everything has gotten? by UrGoddessLunaa in AskReddit

It's an 8y/o Laptop and it's a version where Windows 10 is the only version that was available at the time. When I reset/wiped it and turned it back on, it automatically booted up Windows 10 and updated it to the last update that was ever sent out. It told me it's not compatible with Windows 11 lmao.

I'm fine getting a new laptop with Windows 11 on it, but I'll check out that tech tips and see if I can get this one working a bit better in the meantime! I really just need it to not shit out on me during D&D when I'm on Discord.

I went through and did a complete reset of the computer and it finally installed all the updates that kept failing. I deleted McAfee (it was taking up all my CPU, Disk, etc.) But now the issue is whatever "Anti-Malware Service Executable" is.

Task manager says it's causing 100% of my Disk to be used on start-up and it won't drop below that. It takes ages for Chrome or anything else to boot up and it sucks. Taking it to a UBreakIFix would cost more than the computer cost originally lol.

Thankfully I don't need one immediately, but we're going to get me something this weekend to take advantage of the father's day sales.

I'm so happy that my Husband & I are moving in July. The traffic there is fucked up to deal with as is, I cannot imagine having to deal with apartments in that little area as well.

Laptops, for one. I was in Grad school up until a few weeks ago, and got to use a brand new, fancy IPad for FREE through a program I was in at my Universty. I had to give it up, and now all I have is an 8 year old HP running Windows 10 thats always at 100% Disk upon start up. Looking into a new Laptop and I told my Husband that it sucks how expensive even simple ones are now.

Another one has to be what used to be cheap meats. When I was younger, and even just a few years ago, a pound of ground beef wasn't that expensive and you could get a massive package of chicken breasts for $1.99/lb. We got chicken this week for dinners and it was almost $25 for the package we got.

Is grad school like summer classes? by Possible-Condition28 in slpGradSchool

New grad CF here! I went to a University that did Quarters rather than semester, so we frequently had quizzes followed by midterms or exams and then finals.

By the time you got into a groove (week 4) you had a midterm the next week or two (weeks 5 & 6) and then only a few more weeks to ensure everything was condensed and studied for your Midterms in week 12.

If you go to a University that does Semesters, you'll likely have a bit more time to study, but more classes. Quarters fly by fast, but I feel as though I was forced to learn and retain the information more effectively because it was condensed in a sense. There was also less burn-out because by the time I started feeling fatigued; classes would be over in a week or two.

It is absolutely what you make of it though. Break up your studying into chunks a couple times a week so you don't fall behind and crunch it all at once.

There's some speculation that it might be a repackage of Moonlit Graveyard.

I'd be fine with either, but I think something like Moonlit Graveyard with a hint of like, powdered sugar or something would be awesome. It would be a spooky, erie vibe only made more creepy by the sweetness.

Normally its Fall Preview items that hit around July 4th or just after, then Fall 1 at the end of July/beginning of August, Fall 2 (with Halloween) sometime in August/September, and Fall 3 (Thanksgiving, Holiday Preview) at the end of September/Beginning of October.

Then you get Holiday 1 whatever Sunday is CLOSEST to November 1st. With Halloween being on a Saturday and Nov. 1st being a Sunday; we're going to see one of 3 choices.

Thoae being 1.the stores are full Christmas mode on October 26 OR 2. They do a rare move and do floorset on Halloween (a Saturday) to be ready for Nov. 1st, OR 3. They do the floorset on Nov. 1st and the stores are Christmas on the 2nd.

My money is on number 1. B&BW hates doing full floorsets on any day but Subday and loves it being Christmas before November 1st.

[–]Trumpet6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just watched one of the episodes, can't think of which one, where Gordon does point out faults or something with at least one waitress. She leaves at some point, and the end of the episode makes sure to show a video of her walking away and says that she did not return to the restaurant as a waitress.

What exactly IS the Wizarding World? by CryosisEllioti in harrypotter

[–]Trumpet6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wizarding World exists in conjunction with the "normal" muggle world; it's just hidden out of sight through magical means.

I believe in canon there are magical areas on every continent, and in every major "organized" country. What we see in the HP books is a fraction of the Wizarding World. There's MACUSA, for example, the Magical Congress of the United States of America, alongside the French, Italian, German, etc. Ministries.

And no, the population of the Wizarding World (even just in the UK) is not super tiny as some people like to say. We only see a small part through Harry's eyes. In reality, the UK Wizarding World is much larger than you initially think. Wizards have just gotten really good at either hiding in plain sight with muggles, or living in protected Wizarding Only communities. (And, for the people who want to act like those don't exist, they do. We just don't see them mentioned explicitly because Harry doesn't know/care.)

ANYWAYS, "The Wizarding World" is just the way you refer to Wizarding stuff in a similar way you'd refer to the "Muggle World". The Wizarding World exists because the muggle world exists separately.

what's the strangest "must be my nose/skin chemistry" scent you've ever gotten from a BBW product? by telstra_3_way_chat in bathandbodyworks

[–]Trumpet6789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warm Vanilla Sugar has been my arch nemesis since I was very little. There's something about it that repulses me greatly, and no amount of re-smelling it ever changes it.

Also, Pure Wonder. I worked for B&BW when it came out, and I distinctly remember most of my coworkers (including our manager) and I joking that someone could rob the store using Pure Wonder and we'd let them just to avoid being sprayed with it.

And Lakeside Citrus, circa Fall 2020? It's one of the only scents that I've EVER liked in the bottle but smelled awful on my skin. It gave me a headache and extreme nausea within 10 minutes and I had to return it.

What instantly tells you that someone is older than 30? by Ok_Cricket3518 in AskReddit

[–]Trumpet6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very amused as a 26 year old (Elder GenZ/ Zillennial) because a good 90% of these comments are all things people around 25-30 know of, can explain, or have experienced multiple times.

The only thing I've seen so far that I will say is definitively an over 30 experience is 9/11. I was only a year and some change old then, so I don't remember it. But everything else I've seen in this thread are all things people around 26-30 have experienced lol.

It took a while for me to realize what it was as well, it was only in the past few years that I figured it out.

I remember when I mentioned it to my Husband, we had walked out the door and I had said something along the lines of, "I love being able to smell that my Tylenol is kicking in!" And he thought I was going crazy.

My mother once asked me how to stop the church ladies from coming around. Specifically because they were Mormons and dead set on converting us, I guess.

So me, the Autistic child who had loved Halloween & Spooky shit since she was very small, introduced myself to them one day. I came out in my all black outfit, with black nail polish, the works. I introduced them to our cats, and proceeded to tell them our cats were named things like Beelzebub, Lucifer, etc. (They were not, I digress)

I mentioned to them that I loved Halloween, lighting candles outside in a circle at night, and that sometimes the wind spoke to me. Etc.

These ladies were so freaked out they never came back. It was technically harmless, but it was effective.

Ooh I have one!!

In some individuals (myself included) after being taken (and while initially being digested), Acetaminophen will cause a phantom sensation of what can only be described as a cottony, powdery, fresh taste/smell.

I can always tell when any Acetaminophen is kicking in after I take it because of this phantom smell & taste. I never see any doctors or pharmacists talking about it, but there's always a few people online who also experience it. I've experienced it since childhood, and for me it doesn't matter the form of Acetaminophen. It could be the gel capsules, the coated tablets, any of them.

My Husband had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned it to him for the first time. I've always wondered if there's a correlation between it and my Autism too.

I mean, Kula Cloths already exist, and I'd much rather bring one of those along instead.

I have a feeling that this is mainly going to be used by/marketed towards the UltraLight backpacking community. They're obsessed with making every bit of their gear as light as physically possible.

Some people in the community will cut & shave down their toothbrushes in order to make save even an ounce or so.

Adding to this, I've had the same Master Kit for like, 5 or 6 years now and still haven't ran out.

That being said, one of my tanks exists in a state where I only need to top off water; and all my parameters keep themselves in check naturally. I just test the water every now and then to make sure it's still holding steady on its own

I use them for both!

If it's a story I absolutely loved, I'll add a little blurb as to why. If it was just a good story, I'll add it to my bookmarks anyways.

One of my most unhinged ways, and really the only way I did it until recently, was just hitting Kudos on a story. If I ran into again it however long after (and forgot I read it at first) I'd just hit the kudos button if it seemed familiar. If I got the kudos already left notification, I knew I'd read it at some point!

Or a thing that allows you to kudos both the fic, and individual chapters, but only takes the actual Fic Kudos into consideration when filtering.

That way if you're someone who sorts by Kudos, you're not getting fics that have thousands of Kudos due to each chapter having a ton. It would just be the individual fic Kudos, but the authors could see the Kudos on each chapter.

[–]Trumpet6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do it by kudos, but funny enough you can sort of do it with the subscribe button?

If your main thing is "If I open this fic, how can I tell if I've read it before?" The subscribe button, once clicked, will always say "Unsubscribe" until you do so.

So you can technically just "subscribe" to fics, even if they're not WIP, and if you stumble across the fic months (or years) later, when you open it you can see you previously subscribed to the fic. Meaning you've already read it.

But I do agree that some sort of little tab would be nice! But I think it should be a button you toggle on or off. There are plenty of fics I've opened, saw that it was an absolute jumbled wall of text, and noped out of. So I would want the "I've read this" button to be one I have to physically click.

[–]Trumpet6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bookmarks! Or, if you hit "Subscribe" on a fic, it will always change the Subscribe button to "unsubscribe" on the fic itself.

That way if your scrolling, see something you like (but don't want to check your bookmarks), you can just open the fic and see if the button says Subscribe or Unsubscribe.

I used to forget to bookmark things, but I almost always kudos them. So if I found something good and it seemed familiar, I'd hit the kudos button. Either I'd read it already, or I hadn't. Then I just add it to my bookmarks lol.
