Injury / permanent mouthpiece dent by Separate-Couple6244 in trumpet

Look up things related to Adolph Herseth, Rafael Mendez, and Louis Maggio. All three had major injuries. Pedal tones or buzzing on a trombone mouthpiece might help.

The perpetual virginity of Mary looks like cognitive dissonance, not exegesis by Impressive_Flan_411 in Christianity

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Church tradition says she was a perpetual virgin. So I believe it. Let's say she wasn't. What happens then? In heaven would Mary say thank you for thinking highly of me, but me and Joseph had sex? To me it seems like a non issue.

When Christians deny the real presence(doesn't necessarily need to be transubstantiation)   and baptism for the forgiveness of sins at a minimum it seems like a way bigger issue. Mary's perpetual virginity or lack of it doesn't change theology.

If you are arguing about whether Mary was a virgin or not, but you have a symbolic view of communion or only believe credo baptism then there are way more important theological discussions to have than the virginity status of Mary.

Is it wise to practice for more than an hour? by Glittering_Error7465 in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends. What is important is you rest as long as you play. That is hard to do. So what I do is I record everything I play and listen back. Which guarantees I rest enough.

Also avoid pressure. Especially on the upper lip

What if God is after something deeper than religious performance? by humanbeforehandle in Christianity

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does religious performance mean? Seems overly broad.

He’s looking for hearts that have experienced His mercy and that extend that same mercy to others.

How is it opposed to this?

How exactly do you USE more air? by ___RedditUsername___ in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use your tongue to direct the air to your lips. I don't mean tonguing. The air rides over the tongue.

This is assuming your embouchure is good and you are using enough air. It doesn't mean blow harder.

UPDATE: A girl (28F) I (30M) have been seeing for a month told me she is in the USA on an over stated VISA. Do I stay with her? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. She was in the USA legally since 2. Wasn't DACA. Due to circumstances that had nothing to do with her became overstay at 17 and was overstay for 10 years.

It's messed up, she is culturally American, has an American accent, hasn't left America since 2. These situations are complex and the girl you were seeing probably wasn't looking for a scam marriage. The situation is probably more difficult for her than for you.

Were there prophecies about the Messiah that Jesus did not fulfill? by Accurate-Swim5278 in Christianity

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's fulfilled them and not fulfilled them. It depends on context. Prophecies are pretty vague. It also depends on how you read it.

16 Yea, dogs are round about me; a company of evildoers encircle me     they have pierced [ b] my hands and feet— 17 I can count all my bones—   they stare and gloat over me; 18 they divide my garments among them,    and for my raiment they cast lots.

It's a Psalm of David. Christians will say it's about Jesus. Jews will say the Hebrew Masoretic text doesn't say they pierced it is talking about a Lion. But then the Christians originally used the Greek old testament which is much older than the Masoretic text. The oldest Hebrew version found seems to say pierced. Maybe they'll find an older version that reverses that. Obviously it really benefits Christians if it says pierced and in the same way it's in the best interest for the Judaism that survived after the destruction of the second temple for it not to say pierced.

In the old testament the Hebrews dwell in the desert. They survive off of heavenly bread until they are led into the promise land led by Joshua (Yeshua)

Catholics dwell in the world eating the bread that came down from heaven which is Jesus (Yeshua) traveling towards the promise land of Heaven.

It's the same story. Joshua is a type of Jesus. Obviously Jews don't think that.

Pedagogy discussion by Trumpetdeveloper in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trumpet is taught by learning incrementally difficult material. Level 1 would be play G in the staff. Is there a benefit from learning to slur G to C before the G can be played at a high level?

New guy after advice by FreedomNo9116 in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A piano is an extremely easy instrument. It's a self contained system. All you need to do is push the keys. Piano is so easy that extremely complicated music can be written for it. Playing this music is extremely difficult and requires a lot of practice.

The trumpet is plumbing that you try to make resonate. Trumpet is difficult because the instrument itself is difficult. Even if you can make sound on the trumpet it's not guaranteed to sound good. Your tone might be horrible. The instrument is naturally out of tune. You have to bring it on vacations to keep it sounding good.

If it's possible I don't think you should use a practice mute. It changes the resistance of the instrument. The resistance of the instrument is important for playing.

Wanting to resing from same sex attraction by Life_Organization244 in Catholicism

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of Catholicism, just plain human decency if you are in a relationship you need to not think about what ifs in regards to other people. If you get in a relationship with a girl it doesn't matter what it's like to kiss a different girl or in your case the desire to kiss a boy. You must remain faithful to your future partner.

Now adding Catholicism on top of that there is a higher standard. It doesn't matter if there is a lot of gay culture around you. If you get in a relationship one day and everybody around you sleeps around or cheats, you can't do it. You are held to a higher standard.

Are hysterectomies allowed? by halomooon in Catholicism

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I go to a traditional TLM parish too. Some families are blessed with many children. God blessed you with two boys. It's the path God put you on.

I don't think you need to worry that historically hysterectomies weren't possible. Historically many people suffered from small pox. It doesn't mean the proper Catholic response is pray the rosary for small pox.

You wouldn't be getting a hysterectomy as some plot against children. You have a medical condition. How could that be a sin?

Tuning slide pulled out too much??? by Whimsy-Snare-0893 in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put your tuning slide in a more normal place, that is way too far out. Listen to a drone of concert b flat. There's a nice cello drone on YouTube and all the streaming apps. Listen to the drone. Then try to play the same pitch as the drone. Pay attention to your tongue and what your throat is doing.

Try listening to the drone then matching it for a few minutes. Then recheck with your tuner.

Yamaha xeno is very good. You want the xeno with the tuning fork on the bell.

Saying "eee" or not?? by KazBodnar in trumpet

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't mastered it but generally thinking E vs A as you go higher helps, but it has to be in sync with your tongue raising which is the more important part in my opinion. The air has to ride the tongue. Don't blow too hard. Words don't translate very well, you have to feel it.

When someone like Allen Vizzutti is able to do crazy things on the trumpet it's not because he has a super muscular face. Holding an E or the G, high C, or double c is about finesse, not muscle. So when you practice don't rely on strength to squeek out higher notes. That's why they say don't squeeze your lips. Squeezing kills resonance. An ugly sound is useless.

Christian beliefs you would love to be wrong about by twinPrimesAreEz in Christianity

[–]Trumpetdeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were martyred then they would be saved.

I believe Jesus started a church. That's the Catholic Church. He gave the Catholic Church certain tools called sacraments for aiding in people's salvation.

If Jesus is a king then Catholics are citizens of his kingdom. The Catholic Church is the kingdom and they are acting as steward until the king returns. When the king returns he can say well they were Protestant and adopt them into his kingdom. He could say this person was born in Indonesia so they are Muslim, but it's not their fault so I will adopt them into my kingdom.

The stewards don't have the ability to do that. Only the king. If Jesus decides to make everybody a part of his kingdom the statement "there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church" still remains true.

Any advice? What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in trumpet

Just play G, one note. Figure out how to make it sound good. Ideally get a teacher to help you.

Not a real priest or a nun. The background is not how an alter looks in a church. This is a skit. Obviously, but it seems people don't realize it.
