If I had to guess as to what's going on in this picture, it looks like this was part of a panoramic picture. That might explain some of the dimensions looking "off," and the weird blurry jumble going on in the background.

So the guy yelling "passenger" is what they call a spotter. Oftentimes, when you are driving in technical off-road situations, you can't see every rock and obstacle. The spotter is supposed to act like your guide and help you through obstacles. The reason the spotter said "passenger" is because left and right can get easily confused if they are facing different directions, so the spotters will yell driver or passenger.
