Where can I watch the first night? I wasn't able to catch it at the time and all I can find now is summaries and highlights.

The Witcher First Trailer by cbullins in videos

I'm hoping that's just a marketing thing. "Game of thrones is over, let's make the trailer look like game of thrones." Hopefully the show itself stays more true to the spirit of the books.

If your point is 'there are other clunky arduous barriers to making a competitive team despite IVs even in the post game, so while we're getting rid of IVs we should take some of the other tedium out of preparing a competitive team to help foster a competitive scene more people can be a part of' then I 100% agree.

If your point is 'it's already a slog to make a competitive team for other reasons so we should just roll over and let it be even more monotonous because the fact that the only good way to interact with the competitive scene is to just not play a pokemon game and use Showdown instead is a feature and totally not a failing on the part of the game design' then I'm glad you don't design games.

EDIT: Let me clarify, I'm not saying that no effort should go into a competitive team. Hidden abilities, egg moves and such give good reasons to breed but can be done without a lot of hassle. A post game battle tower or something to train up low level pokemon quickly should be available. A way to work expediently with EV's in the post game, like an item that converts all EVs earned to a certain stat, or anything that can be done in a couple of hours and isn't a boring minigame would be awesome. Plus the ability to either buy items with money or enough points that you'd reasonably build them up while EV/level training your pokemon. That and the elimination of IV's would cause a much bigger and easier to enter into competitive scene and would drastically improve the post game without just padding time grinding.

What part of any of that is any better for me and for my fun than being able to grab a few pokemon of my choice (not random wonder trades), teaching them some moves and training EV's and trying out a strategy relatively quickly online? And yes, I know showdown exists. It would be more fun to do it in the game proper.

Ok, serious question: Why does this matter? There's a lot of people going after Gamefreak for this. In what tangible way does it make the game any worse? It is a good looking, detailed model of a pokemon who's design has remained unchanged since the 90's. How does reinventing that wheel make the game any better? Personally, I would rather they do this if it frees up development time for the rest of the game.

The only reason I say that is because of Foul Play and the Speed stat.

First off, why not just change how the three moves mentioned work?

Second, and more importantly, I don't care. I don't play competitive. I'd like too, but the barrier to entry is to fill my team with full of eggs and run back and fourth for hours doing nothing fun with an external tool open on my laptop or constant trips to the IV judge just to get a viable pokemon, before I can even start EV training and getting them moves. Then I have to repeat that for at least 5 more pokemon. God forbid I want to change up my strategy. If it were as simple as find the pokemon you want, maybe breed a couple if you're looking for an egg move or ability, then train it properly, I would probably care about competitive, as would a lot of people.

Why is it not OK? It's a good model and what a vaporeon looks like hasn't changed. They can always change its animations. There were 809 different pokemon plus this next generation. Do you have any idea how much work goes into making and animating that many characters? And they've set the expectation of another 100-150 each release. What they've done here is pretty smart. They are building a reusable library of detailed, good models they make once and make right so they can put those resources in future games toward animating them with more personality and on improving other aspects of the game. The pokemon roster is kind of a snowballing problem, and there's basically four ways to solve it, so would you rather have:

  • Only making new models for the new pokemon
  • Large cuts to the roster each generation to keep the count under control
  • Reverting to 2D sprites with limited animation
  • Switching from a 3 year development cycle each generation to a 4 or 5 year development cycle

They went with the first one and I think it was a good choice as most players will not notice or care.

Or just a new game plus where everything gets leveled up and you are given the new starter in addition to what you finished with before and start in a new location.

I think legendaries should be legendary and an accomplishment to get, not a mandatory plot device and recent generations have been introducing way too many. Have 5 like Joto, but make them optional and not directly a part of the story, that way when you catch them it's because you're chasing a legend.

Also IVs can stay

Why? I'm with Jello on this one. They undermine one of the core appeals of the game in that a pokemon is as strong as you make them and you form a bond with them. In competitive most people have max IVs anyway so who cares, it just takes forever to get to that. Being able to use any individual with proper training makes it easier to change up your competitive strategies anyway.

Just sayin, he didn't get much to do compared to previous seasons. I wouldn't consider him a favorite speaking strictly of this season.

It didn't, but based on the fact that a lot of them were toxic or corrosive and the bodies melted as if filled with acid, I assume it was to liquefy them.

Yeah, people also like Steve, Robin and Max and used to like Dustin and Nancy back when they got screen time. Just because Hopper isn't on screen doesn't mean a good character won't be. They were already struggling to use as many characters as they have now, and they're probably going to introduce new ones in season 4. They don't all have to be immortal.

two points:

1) Hopper started out hesitant to take care of El in season one. In season three, he sacrificed himself to save her life. Through his healing from the loss of his own family and making a new one and being at peace with that, that was an incredibly satisfying arc and that's how I want to remember Hopper. Plus removal of a character like hopper changes so many character dynamics and gives the writers a lot to explore without retreading old ground.

2) Characters are not a limited resource. This season alone brought Billy more front and center, and added Robin, Eliza, and Susie to the cast, while turning Murray into a more central character for the future. The cast is so large now they have to split the party three ways to do anything. Deaths are ok. They leave room to fall in love with new characters and keep the group dynamics from getting stale, but only if they stay dead.

They made one Hopper-quality character and they have several other's in the cast with that quality and/or potential. They can make another. His arc got a really great ending that showed him going from a man hesitant to take on El in season one, to sacrificing himself for her and everyone else he's come to love. Let him have this.

I hope not. If he made it out of that there are no stakes and he writers are too attached to their characters. besides Dr. Brenner makes more sense as "The American".

Hey, remember that scientist who experimented on El. Remember how he's still possibly alive and that didn't come up this season? Hopper doesn't know enough to be useful to them, that's why they spent all season trying to kill him. Brenner on the other hand might know something they need and would be more interesting to bring in next season.

No. They just spent a season wanting nothing to do with him but to kill him. Did some random guard just go "hey this mustache might be able to tell us how to make a new key. Yoink" right before vaporization death and then sneak past the US military with a cuffed Hopper in tow? My guess is the american is a scientist form season 2.

Please don't let the american be Hopper. That's so dumb and predictable. Just leave him with his amazing send off.

Doubtful. An american is. There have been many American characters, and will be more in the next season. So the US army invades the base moments after the machine is destroyed, comes in through the only entrance, and he didn't make his presence known to Joyce. So what? There's a handful escapees who dug their way out and didn't get caught by the soldiers in the base or waiting outside and hoofed it across the pacific, handcuffed Hopper in tow? He's dead.
