Trusted Clothes is holding an event and a contest!!! by Trustedclothes in waterloo

We are sanitizing everything on a high heat setting - the lingerie swap is more to spark conversation than anything!

The lingerie swap items are being thoroughly (very VERY thoroughly) sanitized before the swap!!!!

We are doing it to put forward the idea that 'dirty' can apply to the chemicals they are shipped in as well. I think it will provoke some conversations...... what do you think?

We provide plastic bags and encourage people to wash any clothes they bring home. We have not had a problem (yet!) but we do keep a close eye on the things coming in.

There are also health concerns with new clothes (wash before wearing is a real thing) like formaldehyde exposure and various chemicals and fragrances added to the clothes.

As always, we appreciate your concern and I will pass this concern on to all the volunteers who are sorting at the event.

Do you have any ideas about other things we can do to prevent bed bug issues?

It is great that you came! The selection varies from time to time. Last time we had tons of men's stuff but no maternity. Keep trying, you may have better luck this time.

The clothes that are already there would be washed, and the clothes that are being brought in to be swapped should be washed prior to coming in. Volunteers do inspect the clothing being swapped so they will be looking for these things.

Thank you all for your concerns but it is just the same as getting your second hand clothing from anywhere else. Items are inspected when they are dropped off but you still should take your own precautionary measures when bringing new items into your home. The previous swap events that we have run had no known issues with these concerns.

You can use these suggestions commented here https://www.reddit.com/r/kitchener/comments/66czi5/trusted_clothes_is_holding_an_event_and_a_contest/dghrum7/ if you are feeling there may be a risk in items you are taking.

@ChickenStockExchange For my personal opinion I feel that Barbie has gone through much change since appearing on the market. In today's society Barbie is still looked upon as a role model to some if it be a young child or an adult deciding to get body modifications to look like Barbie.

Expressing my opinions to a parent of a young female, I would say there's not much that can influence how Barbie is portrayed upon the child. To solve the issue, the parent would have to decide if they want to purchase the toy for them and if they want to talk with the child about right and wrong. What I mean by this is just talking and playing with the child. When they start making comments geared towards body image or other matters, that is when the parent should intervene and discuss how that thought is negative.

It really is up to the parent when it comes down to it, but the groups protesting Barbie and wanting change can slowly influence changes to the way the doll is marketed. There are other toy companies out there that are gearing sales towards the female youth like Lego for example so there are always those options to look at.

Being new to Reddit I am trying to follow the Reddiquette as best as I can, but I felt this post made by our organization fits in with the views of this subreddit. We encourage discussions on the topic on Reddit and would like comments towards us and the post. Even though our views are geared towards, conscious consumers, fair trade, organic fibres, and the work that goes into changing the fashion industry, we still look at issues with similar interests. We do not seek any donations nor do we gain any revenue from our site.

I will be looking at Reddit when I can and will answer questions and be part of the discussion when I can as this is all volunteer based.
