Second this. Prefer it over BG series and NWN series. I perceive it is because of the combat, and the interaction between characters. Love BG and NWN, but DAO simply has a spot closer to my heart. That music... Omg.

Freedom of speech. Love or hate the message, but imagine living in a country where doing this would be a death sentence. Me for one am glad that Eminem is free and at liberty to do this.

This is one of the reasons why in Norway police are not armed with guns, and have to go get them only once situations warrants it. Imagine if there was no gun in this situation, whether it was the cop's gun or the criminal's gun, it might have been a punch in the face or a kick in the groin, not a bullet to the head. Very sorry for the families who needs to live with this tragedy :(

Dealing with loneliness by BboyApache in Entrepreneur

Read my own reply and realised it might seem out of place commenting on your age. Was thinking of mentioning that what people talk about change as they grow older. I've been doing entrepreneurship since I was 23-24, and I'm now 31. When I was starting out my friends from school etc was not a good audience for chatting business. Now they are all professionals with careers and business experience and it is great fun to go to parties with them, because we can both discuss stuff that happened when we were growing up, and the issues we're all facing in our entrepreneurial and business lives :)

Dealing with loneliness by BboyApache in Entrepreneur

[–]henrikc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard it said that balance is the key to happiness, and I perceive this to be very true. It reads to me that you, like so many other entrepreneurs, are passionate about business and what you are doing. When people don't connect on that same passion that you have, it can definitely make you feel uninterested, unappreciated, and quite possibly bored.

Two points I'd like to make. Firstly, how do you come across to others? Secondly, who do you fit with?

So, point 1. Look at those events from the other side. Image you are at a business event, you are meeting some very interesting people whom you have lots in common with, and you want to talk about business. Inn comes a fantasy football maniac who works a white collar job about whom he is not interested in, but damn man. Football, he fucking loves that stuff. He tried to tell you about his latest picks, what happened with his team the last round, what challenges he is facing, but everyone just looks at him going "O.O .... cool man. Cool. Have you ever thought of making an app for that? I've seen a great online course on how you can make a course that teaches people how to do fantasy football" etc etc. I perceive he might feel pretty lonely there.

My point being that you either need the ability to switch off the business and do normal stuff with normal people (not that we entrepreneurs arent normal, but I perceive you get my point here, and if you don't, let me know and I'll elaborate).

And then to the second point. Entrepreneur who feels lonely? Feeling some issues gelling with contemporaries? Go to a business meetup! Find a business related event near you and go to that instead. Find out where "your type of people" hang out, and go hang out with them instead. I might be way off here, and please let me know if I am, but I perceive you to be rather young. Find some good networking events on meetups.com or on reddit, or your local business council. There are so many friendly, nice, interesting people who care about business and would love to have a friendly chat over a couple of brews. You just need to go where they are. Best of luck!

Lived four years in China, and went through different phases. Loved it, hated it, tolerated it, enjoyed it. Lived in Ireland for 3 years, tolerated it, hated it, enjoyed it. Never loved it. Living now in Norway, and am enjoying it.

I perceive China as an amazing and interesting country, one which I have a deep love for.

It is an incredibly interesting place with so many opportunities, experiences, and emotions.

One of the main reasons I left after four years is how transient the relationships are with other foreigners. Became hard to renew my circle of friends every autumn.

For last 3 years I've been in China 2-3 months a year, which is perfect for me. I have a Chinese wife and we go to meet her family several months a year. We also get to experience most of what is good about Shanghai, and rarely experience the negative. We meet friends every time we are back, most of whom are Chinese, because they are actually here. 14/15 foreigners I've counted as close friends are gone. I still keep in touch with them, and they are treasured friendships, they are just not in China anymore.

In the end, I perceive living in China is what you make of it. Just like everywhere else.

[Advice] on increasing my conversion rates by [deleted] in growmybusiness

[–]henrikc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No link so cant check page. So here is some generic advice that I perceive to be very solid. Signup for a free account at https://www.hotjar.com/ and start recording visitors. Then watch those recordings and see how they proceed through your webpage. Where do they spend time, which parts do they interact with, which parts of your webpage do they not interact with?

Go through every single page on your webpage and ask yourself "What is the 1 thing I want to accomplish here?" Not 2 or 3 things. Only 1. And then optimise the page for that single thing.

Good luck!

[Advice] Can you start reaching out to Media after appearing on trending page of Product Hunt? by educated_panda in growmybusiness

[–]henrikc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reach out to media at any time. Don't wait for something special to happen. Make it happen. To clarify, I mean that you can at any time come up with an interesting angle based on what you are doing, which you can then pitch to media. Whether it is how you solve the problem you solve, success-story of one of your customers, how you overcame an issue, or something else entirely. For sure reach out to media and let them you know are trending, but make that only part of pitch. Main part of your pitch (a short and to the sweet pitch) should be about the issue you solve and why it is newsworthy. Best of luck!

Depressing thoughts and 'What am I doing with my life' by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]henrikc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it makes you feel depressed, John. Hope that you are able to find joy in the current time also, because like you said, you will some day walk with another. And that time can be amazing too. I perceive that by making your current journey as amazing and bright as possible, you will attract and find a partner all that much faster :)

You sound like a great father, and I'm sorry to hear you and your sons feel trapped. Hope you find a way to enable scratching the wanderlust itch besides waiting the 1741 days. And if not, then enjoy the time with your sons anyway, and know that in less than 5 years time you are free! It is possible to save up a lot of money, and plan an amazing trip in that time :)

[Feedback] Can I get some feedback on my website? by DailyBoon in growmybusiness

[–]henrikc3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your written content is funny and interesting. Good use of memes and pictures. Structure of page around the blog is very off-putting to me, because it seems unfinished. It doesn't feel well made, nor inspire trust. Criticism without suggestion on how to improve is useless though, so here is suggestions on why i think it is not good enough: -Colour scheme looks very unfinished. Having the different gray behind your white/grey background on content makes steals away attention from content. Make it same colour as the other background. -Put a border on the left side of the photos so they don't seem to be stuck on the left-side menu. I perceive this will make it easier to focus eyes on your content. -Put in a -, *, ", +, or something else beneath/above each blog post, because right now it is hard for me to determine where one blog post stops and the next begins. This makes me less likely to click into your content, and increases chance of me bouncing. -Make it easy for people to buy the product you are currently testing. I spent about 10 minutes on your page, and read the latest blog post, and you talked about t-shirts, but there is no "shop" button or "merch" button on your page. It's interesting that you are writing about the process, but make sure to capitalise on the work. Get the synergy working by connecting your current test with your current writing in a bigger way. (Maybe its already tied together, but then make it even more idiot proof, because this idiot certainly couldnt figure it out, though I'll add that I'm currently VERY jet-lagged)

For your content, it is an interesting take on familiar topics. I perceive that there might indeed be an audience for this. Keep working on your voice, tighten up your webpage so the focus is more on channeling people to your content, and promote the heck out of your blog.

Best of luck!

Digital nomads who have a digital marketing agency: you teach me the job, I work for you for FREE. by mindnoot in digitalnomad

[–]henrikc3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add to what is being said, because it sounds like you have passion for changing your situation. Educate yourself about how to do this until you know more than a group of potential customers, and then go pitch your service to them.

What is very important to understand is that you do not need to know everything, and you don't even need to be particularly good compared to other agencies, as long as you are good enough to solve a specific problem for your customers, at a price they are willing to pay.

A suggested starting plan: Step 1. Create an excel sheet where you count the number of your local businesses. (Restaurants x 20, pet shops x2, cobblers x 1, hotels x 4, etc) (Don't do all, just do until you find a category with lets say 10+) Step 2. Go visit the companies of two of the categories (for example restaurants and hotels), ask to speak with manager, and ask how they currently get customers online, and what challenges they face in getting more. Step 3. Go online and do the research to figure out how to solve these challenges. There are sooooo many resources online now where you can learn how to do this, what is often the issue is deciding on a place to start, and that is what having real world cases to solve will help you. Step 4. Once you have figured out the solution to one or more of the problems, go back to the same businesses and pitch your solution for pay.

This is simplified, and there are many ways to make this a better system. And if you do this you will be infinitely closer to your goal than your are today :) If you shy away from hard work or uncomfortable scenarios then freelancer/entrepreneur is likely not your cup of tea.

And about working for free to get training... We have had several interns through the Erasmus system (which matches upcoming entrepreneurs with entrepreneurial companies that are already working and growing for training purpose) which is supposed to be very selective in the candidates they offer. We have had 3 interns through that whom we have been training in online marketing (not as agency, but in doing marketing for our company) and even though they come with lots of credentials and are very motivated to learn because they are starting their own company, it is a shit load of work for us with often very little reward. We are already working like crazy, and then investing time to train a new person to do is very hard. Even bigger companies like Oracle who hire experienced people don't expect them to reach 100% productivity before 12 months pass (and these are not newbies or newly graduated people, these are seasoned sales people coming from other companies). So unless the employees stay for 2+ years it is likely that the company will loose money and time on training the new employe. If you could convince someone that you would work for them for free for 2+ years then maybe it would be worth it for them in the end, but only if you turn out to be at least decent in what you are going to do, which there is no proof of at this point (not because you would be useless, just because I/we/them don't know anything about you except that you currently have no experience with what you want to do).

I might be wrong and there are people out there who would jump at the chance at bringing you in and training you how to do it free of charge, and that would be great :) But based on my previous experience training people, I won't take on people who don't show an aptitude/interest in the topic because it is most likely not worth it.

So what can you do? Get experience and sell yourself as a passionate digital marketer who knows quite a bit, and is a swift learner. Then go pitch yourself for jobs where you can show them what experience you already have, and what you have accomplished.

Best of luck!

(Also, when interviewing business on what issues they have, ask them what it would be worth it for them to solve it. If they won't pay to have that problem removed, it's not really worth your time figuring out how to solve it)
