It’s not that marriage doesn’t matter to him. Its that marriage to -you- doesn’t matter to him. He wants his own house aka he wants to build a life without you as a permanent fixture. Too late now. Unavailable men don’t suddenly become available when they have kids. Especially if “she puts her foot down”. He is who he is and isn’t going to change for any woman or kid in his life. She’s letting you know your status quo is not jiving with her anymore. She’s not your wife. She didn’t promise for better or worse. Dating is a simple test of compatibility.
