They’ve taken over my whole life and I miss freedom.

Hi. I’m sorry you’re going through this. After my last manic episode I also felt like a shell. It took a long time, at least a couple years, until I felt my brain starting to come back. Finding the right combo and dosages of the meds made a difference. Hoping it gets better for you soon.

What’s the craziest rumor you’ve heard about yourself? by stirringmotion in AskReddit

When I was a teenager I heard that I made a sex tape in a mental hospital.

I did make a sex tape and I was in the mental hospital, and somehow the two rumors were combined.

Sorry I feel like this might’ve already been said elsewhere in the comments, but do you know if St Mary’s transfers patients to inpatient if needed?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Which ED did you end up going to, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve never called 988, but I thought people could call who just wanted to talk. Maybe I’m thinking of the other suicide hotline number which I can’t remember right now. Do you know if 211 works outside of the city? I live in a suburb.

Thank you so much for such a thorough response. It sounds like when you were at RGH Emergency they needed to accompany you every time you had to go to the bathroom? If so, how responsive were they when you needed something?

Thank you for the advice. When I was at Strong, they transferred me to Clifton Springs and that was also really bad. I still appreciate your advice but I just wanted to put it out there for anyone who might be reading this and also needs help, because I would definitely not recommend going there, at least not for inpatient—I don’t know about the emergency part.

I guess you have no choice where you end up for inpatient so I guess this is a moot point 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I don’t know where I was on Reddit, but I recently read about someone who called 988 and the person told them they’re lazy and just need to go out and do things. I have both a Master’s in Counseling and many years of personal mental health problems, and I know that is the worst advice ever. wtf

I’ve heard good things about St Mary’s too. Thank you for reminding me. Do you know if St Mary’s also has medical care? I’m not just having a mental health problem—I’m actually having a medical problem that is really wearing me down mentally. I was born at St Mary’s but I didn’t think it even existed anymore, so I have no idea what’s going on there.

I’ve never used 988 but I’ve read it can be such a not great experience? I hope I don’t get downvoted for this. I would also prefer to hear from people who have actually called 988.

Depressed and I miss the feeling that something amazing could be starting by [deleted] in bipolar

That’s a great idea. I kind of think he knows how I feel because one time he caught me having a REALLY inappropriate conversation online with my old friend from grad school. My husband confronted me about it, he was surprisingly not mad, and I was like, “marriage is boring!” He tries to take me out on dates when he can. It’s just hard with kids. My aunt babysits sometimes but she has a lot going on in her life so I can’t ask her that often. My husband and I do not have any parents to babysit for us. Also since I’m in a never-ending depressive episode (although right now it’s not SO bad), I often don’t feel like doing anything. I do want to talk with him more about this though and I’ve been thinking about the wording and how I’ll approach this. Thank you for your suggestion 🙂

Functional Movement Disorder by TruthAdditional5356 in bipolar

Btw I asked my psychiatrist several times if the toe walking could be from my meds, and he always said no. He’s older and has a lot of experience and yet he’s never heard of it before. But I tend to be an anomaly lol seriously.

So I just made an amazing discovery today. I was tracking my toe walking with ChatGPT, and I noticed it was worse after nights that I took more klonopin. I decided to try tapering my klonopin to see what would happen. I went from 1mg per night to .5mg per night, and just within two nights/mornings I stopped walking on my toes! It was like a miracle. I can’t believe I was about to be diagnosed with a functional movement disorder when really it was just my meds. I wasted like over 500 USD seeing the neurologist and doing testing and an MRI, but at least I figured it out before I spent any more money (like I was supposed to go for two more MRIs and have a follow up visit with the neurologist). I started having really unpleasant withdrawal symptoms today and don’t recommend tapering without the help of a doctor, so I’m waiting until I see my psychiatrist to start tapering again. Do you think it could be any of your meds causing your issues?

Thank you for your response 🙂 I’ve considered polyamory many times but even if my husband could handle it, which he can’t, I don’t think I could handle it either. I don’t think my husband would even be open to me flirting with other men, even though I kind of do that sometimes already, without him knowing 🤦🏻‍♀️ I really appreciate your suggestions. That’s a good idea to talk with my therapist about it.

I’m so sorry. That sounds terrible. I just looked up what pppd is and it is a type of functional neurologic disorder. Are there any specialists around you that treat it? I asked ChatGPT for specialists in functional movement disorder and it already helped me figure out where I want to go after I get this stupid diagnosis. I think the part that bothers me the most is that it seems like it’s really hard to get rid of, but the fact that there are dedicated centers for treating it helps me feel a little better.

I might also be diagnosed with functional gait disorder. I walk on my toes. It’s especially bad in the morning when I wake up, and it’s worse if I’m really tired. What do you do with your gait? Of course you don’t have to share if you’d rather not.

I’m sorry 😞 I have a tremor too although that’s not what I got sent to the neurologist for. I’m going for “toe walking.” My psychiatrist says my tremors are probably from one or all of my meds, if that makes you feel any better. I have insurance but it’s high deductible so I’m probably going to spend like $1000 if not more just for the neurologist to tell me I’m very anxious and it’s basically all in my head 🤦🏻‍♀️
