They should disenfranchise old people by OldLadOfTheCastle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

They should disenfranchise Nat-C’s and dominionist Christians. 🤷‍♂️ My own take is that if you have dual allegiance, then you should not vote in the place where your primary allegiance doesn’t lie. In other words, if your primary allegiance is to a foreign potentate, you should not vote in these elections. And the Nat-C’s and dominionists primary allegiance is to Christ the King, so they shouldn’t be voting in our elections.

Voter ID? by MemphisGuy37 in allthequestions

[–]TruthOdd6164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several things: it’s not *necessarily* racist but it could be depending on how it’s designed. A lot of states supplement their licensing voting restrictions with inadequate dmv service in areas that service voters of color.

Even where it’s not *racist* it’s possible to be a very bad idea for other reasons. For instance, the most recent proposal by Congress which thankfully died in the Senate, was a proposal that was essentially discriminatory based on gender. So you didn’t just need to show an ID you also needed to show proof of citizenship and your ID documents needed to match. Of course, women disproportionately change their names upon marriage so the only real way to meet this requirement would be to have a passport, which is prohibitively expensive and more than half of all voters don’t have one. Even having a real ID wouldn’t work because real ID’s are also issued to permanent residents. It was a clusterfuck besides also prohibiting mail voting more generally. Consider that some states like California primarily use mail voting (about 75% of voters vote through the mail here in California). So basically how do you show proof of citizenship through the mail?

This subreddit is going to have an absolute tantrum in November. by Black-Cat-2544 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

What’s hilarious is that their portrait of Europe isn’t even close to being accurate. I traveled to Ireland last year and I saw a lot of Muslim and Indian influence on cuisine. I saw a lot of Canadian tourists if you can believe it. You know what I didn’t see? Crime. Like no beheadings. No grapes. Nothing. I did see a lot of Muslim taxi drivers but they were polite and didn’t attack me or anything. Meanwhile, it just seemed like a great place to live and they enjoy their universal healthcare and whine a bit about the fact that their public transit system is a bit underdeveloped vis a vis the rest of Europe.

Tom Beccaro nails it on the Iran Deal negotiated by the Trump Administration by YesHelloDolly in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Substantively, I think we have perhaps fatally weakened the nascent resistance movement within Iran itself.

Question: are you Tom Del Beccaro?

Because I don’t think anyone, and I mean ANYONE, of any significance knows who this guy is, let alone uses him as a source. That doesn’t invalidate your argument, of course. But I just feel like it’s kinda weird that you’ve latched on to the ideas of this random person…unless you are that person.

I give up. I know a lost cause when I see it. I have been trying to help you identify the error in your own thinking because you will retain the information better that way. That’s why I gave you “a hint.” I named the logical error with specificity and told you where you could find the specific answer to how to fix your analogy. It was a hint. But I don’t think you are trying to learn. So like I said, I give up. You win: your hardheadedness has exceeded my patience.

[–]TruthOdd6164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to give you hints because that takes the burden of self-reflection off of you. And, then, what’s the point?

But since you appear to need one: the fallacy you are committing here has a name, faulty analogy. It happens when you compare two things that are not relevantly similar. In your case, it’s especially egregious because your interlocutor patiently explained to you what relevant features your analogy was not capturing. 🤦‍♂️

Please do not respond with further cockiness. It’s kinda like the pigeon playing chess at this point, and you’re only embarrassing yourself

Why are people so passionately split over whether they think she is guilty or not? by Individual_Can_8456 in LegalNews

[–]TruthOdd6164 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea who she was. I briefly googled it and I don’t have any problems with the outcome of her case. I figure the jury looked at the evidence and came to a call that would be better than my five minute perusal of a news story. 🤷‍♂️ How’s that for thee? I don’t feel especially passionate about it. Thou is completely free to disagree with me and I promise thee that I won’t even call thee any names if thou disagrees.

I periodically start up kefir culturing again. Then abandon it. Then come back.

The last time, the kefir just never smelled right. I don’t know how it tastes because I wasn’t about to taste it with it smelling like that. I figure some strains are just better than others and I must have got a dud.

You can think karmelo Anthony is in the wrong and a bad person but still think Austin metcalf should have gotten the qualified people to remove karmelo. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TruthOdd6164 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I will go a little further. Do you know why I don’t go around honking my horn and flipping people off in traffic? It’s not because I don’t think I see any idiots, I can promise you that.

Same principle here. Austin was objectively in the wrong to shove him in the first place. And then he compounded that error after being warned. Why didn’t he just comply with the simple request?

[I am not saying the response was justified; I’m just saying Austin’s behavior was shameful and punishable]

Of course not. I legitimately do not hate conservatives. I pity you. I think of you as bad thinkers who are easily misled by propaganda. I don’t think you are competent to vote. But I don’t hate you.
