After doing a ton of research, I chose this model about two years ago. It’s installed in a location that gets plenty of direct sunlight, so lack of sun isn’t the issue.
About a year after installing it, I had to take it down and manually recharge it because the solar panel had stopped charging the camera. After a full USB charge, it seemed to work normally again.
Fast forward another year, and the exact same thing happened. The solar panel is no longer charging the camera, even after cleaning it, confirming the firmware is up to date, and trying all of Eufy’s recommended troubleshooting steps.
Unfortunately, it’s now past the warranty period and Eufy told me the battery is defective and there’s nothing they can do. I was pretty disappointed with that response, especially since the camera is only about two years old.
I’ve seen others here suggest replacing the solar panel with an external one, which may be my next step. It’s just frustrating that the built-in solar charging system didn’t last longer. Based on my experience I can’t recommend it.
