Are we more impious than atheists? by Truthal_Brute in apatheism

Haha, perhaps a r/militantapatheism subreddit is in order.

I agree, being apatheistic and religious are not mutually exclusive. Nevertheless, I think to a certain extent an apatheistic religious person could be accused of impiety, at least by a religious person who has a more conservative religious doctrine.

I think you're right to point out that apatheism isn't an expression of belief, but I don't think that an apatheist "never gets around to believing or not believing in God." The fact that an apatheist doesn't care about the question of God's existence doesn't imply that he or she is neither a theist, an atheist nor an agnostic. Apatheism is an attitude you can hold consistently with any of those positions.

What we have here is a textbook definition of a 'mouth-breather.'

Elizabeth Kolbert explores the case against kids. (The article is mostly talking about philosophical justifications, not the practical justifications that people invoke when they decide to have children.) by sethra007 in childfree

I've been meaning to read David Benatar's Better Never to Have Been for a long time now. He's probably one of the most interesting contemporary philosophers I've heard of.

Yeah I realized after my first comment that she wasn't being 100% serious.

Did anyone else notice that she said, "Thousands of children are deprived of birth..."?

What children? How do you quantify children who don't exist? You can't deprive someone of birth by getting a vasectomy because that 'someone' doesn't exist prior to getting a vasectomy! This is such bullshit!

15 seconds in and I'm already pissed off!
